my take

First Kurosawa movie I have seen. This movie is heavy on unwarranted guilt and shame brought on by societal norms. Reminded me of The Innocents which I recently watched where someone is carrying around guilt that they need not be. At some point you just want the doctor to tell the woman woman he is suppose to marry the truth. I wonder how she would have reacted. The are other relationships here including with the nasty guy he got the std from. Then there's the nurse who offers herself up to the sexually frustrated doc but is summarily rejected as she is a single mother. Heavy drama. No happy ending here. 7/10
