Herzog’s Nosferatu is great. A good companion film would be Shadow of the Vampire a fictional telling of Murnau shooting the original Nosferatu. Willem Defoe is so funny and chilling as the vampire.

I watched it. I thought it was a bit satirical.

My take:

Finally saw this. Kinski's Dracula is mesmerizing. By far the ugliest and most non seductive Dracula ever. Lucy is much stronger than I remember and at one point she tells Dracula to get lost and he does. Renfield runs around cackling and reminded me of Igor from Young Frankestein. Van Helsing is not that important. Where did they get all the rats from? No CGI here.

This more about style, atmosphere and Kinski's performance. The plot is much different but it doesn't matter This works as a satirical take . 7/10

I got this on my watch list, also the 1922 original (in color).
