View Full Version : Pickpocket (1959): Redemption
A short and beautiful movie. Thanks Allaby.
My review:
A short but beautiful redemption movie at 76 minutes. One of those movies that directors who came later seem to love, The lead character (Michel) is this listless and empty small time crook with an unexplained relationship with his dying mother. He seems to have and be nothing but there are people who see something in him including a policeman who gives him a second chance but he blows it. There also this beautiful girl (Jeanne) who is for some reason is in love with Michel.
Michel goes to jail and Jeanne gets pregnant by one of his friends and is abandoned. Michel steps up bigtime and finds inJeanne what he has been missing his whole life. Not sure how he will pay the bills. 7.5/10
The actress who played Jeanne (Marika Green) was 16 at the time (unless she was lying about her age) - she looked much older and her character certainly seemed to be.
