Another show from the 1990's that I somehow missed during its primetime network run and have decided to check out now. The main reason I wanted to check this out is because I remembered Helen Hunt winning four Emmys for Lead Actress in a comedy series and thought this had to have something special going for it. Hunt and Paul Reiser play upwardly mobile Manhattan-ites named Jamie and Paul Buchman, navigating work, home, and the pitfalls of marriage. They've only been married for five months when the pilot starts but they feel like they've been married 20 years. Was impressed that five minutes into the pilot, Jamie was complaining about not having sex for the five days...usually in a sitcom, it's the husband who is concerned with such matters, so I think I'm hooked. "Well you could chip some off my wife's mood." I'll be surprised if the character Selby gets past season one. Looks like Fran and Mark are characters who don't know how to read a room. Loved the shots of stuff falling on the floor and flying through the kitchen without showing Paul and Jamie. Loving Richard Kind as Mark..

Everytime I hear that show mentioned I get that Belinda Carlie hit stuck in my head.

Season One, Ep 2. I thought this show was a little ore sophisticated for the "my side of the bed" storyline. Jamie seems to be pretty high maintenance. "As a couch I liked it, but a loveseat not so much." "Yeah, it would fit great if I took my ass off." "It's like ambrosia with cheese." I could done without Estelle Harris' sweater shopper. It was kind of weird that Mark told Paul what he told him. Mark really doesn't know how to read a room.

Season 1 Ep 3. Loved Paul's reaction to learning about the gay pride parade. Jamie was right about the first cigarette after you brush. Jamie is kind of full of herself trying to interpret Paul's dream. "Who is this Kelly and why does he need all of these girls/" "Did we have a fight while I wasn't here/" I can't believe Jamie is getting made at Paul for her interpretation of Paul's dream. Selby is a dumb character. I still say he will be written off before the beginning of season 2. LOVED Lisa being traumatized by The Will Rogers Follies. "Rosebud's his sled, let's go to the quilts." Did I miss it or has the dog's name not been revealed yet?

Season 1, Ep 4. Paul always seems to be criticizing Jamie about something and after he finishes chewing her out, he does the same thing without even realize he's doing it. I like Art Evans as Paul's co-worker. "The rats were underlit they looked like squirrels." I hate that "you'll never guess " thing that Semple did. Murray! The dog's name is Murray! Are those sideburns or headphones?" What's the point of having Paul save that movie for all these years and get caught by Jamie and have her not be jealous at all? I'm over Semple, he's a one-note character we've seen in a million sitcoms. Anytime they're ready to write him off, I'm OK with that. I hate the way they beg each other for stuff and just when the other agrees, they change their mind. That's going to get old really fast. Don't understand why an ex-girlfriend is making Paul a basket case? Is that Lisa Edelstein playing Lynn? Big deal, everything rhymes with Lynn." Wrong move by Jamie. I understood what she was doing, but Paul needed to know the truth.

Season One, Ep 5. Loved Paul taking the bite of the cracker and then saying he didn't take one. Loved Paul's reply about the yellow shirt. Nancy Dussault and Paul Dooley are beautifully cast as Jamie's parents. People drooling over Manhattan parking spots is tiresome. I really don't like the way Jamie seems to reinterpret everything he says and tells us what she wants to hear. "Daddy leave his flanks alone." "Trust me, Paulie...a laithe is way too much a tool for you." Daddy, please don't criticize our pipes." Why does Nancu Dussault seem to be yelling all of her lines? "Nothing if you have a hat and cane and live on the side of a jar." The Vera Ellen/Rosemary Clooney tribute was a delightful surprise.

Season one, ep 6. Loved Phil Leeds on Paul's documentary. Paul was too funny talking to Murray using the term "your people." Paul doesn't know that his wife hates tea? "I don't know why he's crying, you should have that checked." It's just a little too forced and convenient that no one will say what Jamie does for a living. "You're my wife's assistant, that makes you my assistant in law." I'm sorry I'm on Paul's side here, Jamie's complete self-absorption in getting that account was extremely unattractive. I think Jamie was really insensitive to her husband in this episode. I saw this episode exactly the opposite from the way I was supposed to.

Season One, Ep 7. OK, Murray is only Jamie's dog by marriage. "I'm making movies, he's making change." The circus? Seriously, that's so 1960's. Loving that Murray hates Mark. OK, love Fran and Mark, but am really starting to hate their kid. OK, Paul is being just as self-centered in this episode as Jamie was in the last. Why would he just assume that the guy would envy his life? Steve Buscemi was terrific in the role, as he always is. Loved his build-up to psycho as well as the revelation that Paul was right about him. For as much as I've seen, Paul doesn't get to be right much. Lost it when Paul demanded Jamie chase after the toll jumpers. The Japanese businessmen were a riot. Loved the way this one ended, my favorite episode so far. Steve Buscemi is a national treasure.

Season One, Ep 8. Only Paul would get run down by a bike messenger. "Well, excuse me for not thinking abut you when I hurdled to my death." Is it me, or is that apartment building they show at the beginning of each episode, the same apartment building where Will and Grace lived? "I might be grief stricken and might need to take a cruise to get over it." I can't believe Paul asked about tipping during the pulling of the plug. I don't know why, but I was taken aback that Paul still has a lease on his old apartment. Weird that Paul doesn't want to get rid of his apartment. Why is Jamie demanding that Paul gets rid of the apartment but then tells Fran she doesn't mind? "My kidneys could go into a felon and could get the electric chair for something it didn't do." I think I'm team Jamie here...if he's really committed to Jamie, he doesn't need that apartment. Selby is useless, he and Richard Kind's Mark serve the same purpose on the canvas and Kind is so much better at it. Loved the reveal that Kramer is subletting his apartment from Paul. Very funny cameo from Michael Richards. Jamie seems to spend a lot of time trying to entrap Paul into believing he's not as committed to them as she is.

Season One, Ep 9. They're all on the same train car? Seriously? I knew Mark would take that story just a little further than he needed to. Okay I totally missed why Mark and Fran left their kid with the Buchmans. Loved Paul and Jamie telling different versions of their first date. That turkey Lisa was eating looked like it was raw. The bit with Fran and Mark's son grew tiresome pretty quickly. Cute episode.

02-14-24, 05:51 PM
Season One, Ep 10. Fran and Mark really know how to read a room. "It's like the biggest fish benefit of the year." Do Fran and Mark ever get tired of snooping into Paul and Jamie's business. "Don't be silly, we're not dressed for fish." Why did I know that pineapple was the first ingredient Jamie was going to pick for the pizza? Paxton Whitehead and Judy Geeson as the neighbors? Loved that he recognized Jamie when he heard her say "Oh my God." Loved when Jamie insulted the dog. Why would he insist on getting his own glass of water? That was weird. It's like they're blaming the Buchmans for the bad pizza. Why is it so important to Jamie that these people like her?

02-15-24, 03:23 PM
Season One, Ep 11. Appears to be the "how they met" flashback episode. "I always do better on first dates, before they get to know me." Look at Lisa Kudrow with dark hair! Didn't know she played a character on this show before she played Ursula. "I'm just going to go home and cut up pictures of men." "You swear today you told 33 people that I'm pretty?" What was going on with Mark's mustache here? Mark and Pierce Brosnan? Seriously? That was funny. Loved Jamie and Fran sizing up Paul. Liked Wayne Tippet as Jamie and Fran's boss. I loved when Paul told Jamie he wanted to take her everywhere. LOVE that Jamie initiated their first kiss. Really liked this episode.

Okay, I am officially having trouble finding any first season episodes past #11. If anyone can help me with that, please advise. According to wIKI, season 1 had 22 episodes, but I have only been able to locate 11.

OK, I don't know why the other half of season is unavailable where I saw the first half so I will be going on to season two, ep 1 Cute opening scene, but I hope the Buchmans don't let Murray run their lives like that. Thomas Schlamme directed this episode. That was a legitimate question of Paul regarding whether that striped shirt would be white or colored. "Murray has a white spot and vacant eyes. This dog knows things!" It's fun seeing Jamie being the one in trouble for a change. Steven Wright's cameo was hysterical. Cops can't search for a human being until missing 48 hours but they can look for a dog immediately? I like John Pankow a lot better than Tommy Hinckley's Selby. I wonder what happened between Fran and Mark somewhere between eps 12-22 during season 1? What is it with Lisa and the doorbell? Paul had Danny Kaye albums? Danny Kaye made albums? I knew they didn't know what dysphoric means. Cute episode.

02-19-24, 04:46 PM
Season 2, Ep 2. "You know? Watch this...shut up!" Loved when Paul couldn't find anyone but dead artists on the radio. Paul's bed dancing was kind of funny. "Yeah, but if you don't trust me, what's the sense of lying?" One second Jamie wants to make love and the next all she wants is chocolate. Which apartment were those voices coming from? "We only made up the bing and the bang to get the boom." Fran is working way too hard to convince the Buchmans that she doesn't miss Mark. Paul's ears turn red when he's aroused? Is that physically possible? She lied about Casablanca? Paul should have been able to see through that ruse. "Today on Oprah...hookers predict the Oscars!" Loved the final scene and the button.

02-20-24, 04:32 PM
Season2, Ep 3. It was spooky...Murray looked like he was really watching that movie with Jamie. "Your mother diced me like an onion and told me to have you call her." I understand the omelette...I have trouble folding omelettes too. Love Louis Zorich playing Paul's dad. Cynthia Harris was funny as hell as Paul's mother too. Loved when Paul's mom actually accepted the invitation for them to spend the night. "I can't sleep. if I'm not going to be sleep, I might as well be up." Why can't Jamie read a room and realize she will never be good enough for Sylvia's son? She's a bitch, she acts like Jamie isn't even in the room. That was hysterical when Jamie found the Playboy under Paul's childhood bed. Wow, I've seen a lot of TV moms over the years, but this one is a trip. The monitor was hysterical.

02-22-24, 02:31 PM
Season2, Ep 4. Murray and the answering machine, priceless. Love Larry Miller. His character is a bit of a close talker though. Was that Clark Gregg playing Jamie's assistant? Lisa Kudrow debuts as Ursula! I guess Jamie is just as intimidated by her boss as she is by Paul's mother. Jamie smokes! Jamie has a vice, Jamie has a vice! "We're a lot more self-absorbed than most people." God, truer words were never spoken. Is that Ken Jenkins playing Jamie's boss? "And we all know you didn't go to Dartmouth so you can lose the sweater." Jamie had 6 boxes of stull in her office? The last job I got fired from, everything I owned fit in one backpack. "I wish Cruella would just make the freakin coat." A Rita Hayworth double feature was that packed? Seriously?

02-22-24, 03:47 PM
Season 2, Ep 5. Why do I have a feeling that Jamie is going to be completely annoying while she's unemployed? Yep, now that she's not working, she wants Paul to stay home and not work. She's working way too hard at pretending to enjoy unemployment. Loving the return of Steven Wright a lot more than Larry Miller's character who is reaching the obnoxious stage. "He's a dog, he's got four wheel drive." It's like she's forgotten Paul has a life. Twelve minutes into the episode and I'm hating Jamie right now. She needs to get a job in the next episode. How can you sit there, in that hat, and say that to me? Why would Lisa buy drinks for strangers and make Paul pay for them? LOVED when Paul finally admitted that Jamie was driving him crazy. I can perhaps take one more episode of unemployed Jamie.

02-23-24, 05:01 PM
Season 2, Ep 6. I didn't realize how big a hunk of this show Thomas Schlamme directed. "It's a business funeral not a pleasure funeral." So glad Paul's sister finished Paul's Halloween story. Was that Ryan Stiles in the video store? The show just dated itself terribly having a whole scene in a video store. Remember those? Paul rented Son of Paleface? Seriously? "Should we feed him or something?" "John Wayne is exactly like Aladdin, they knew each other." Jamie never struck me as the video game type. Worst Halloween costumers ever. We still have Larry Miller? How much longer is he going to be on? I like Miller, but this character is REALLY annoying. Loving the snotty Brits next door not knowing anything about Halloween. Judy Geeson has aged very gracefully. Love Aaron Lustig. "Your nephew is so sweet, my uterus hurts."

02-26-24, 04:45 PM
Season Two, Ep 7. The cold open with the cake was adorable. What's upper resentment? I love that Ursula never seems to know what Paul is talking about. "You know, Fran, you're always defending hi, you don't have to live with him the way we do." Ursula also works as a museum tour guide? How funny is that? The woman with the camera had a recurring role on Home Improvement as Harry's wife, the guy who owned the hardware store. Are Ira and Lisa going to be a couple? "Honey could you take a little longer cause I'd like to live here now." The Buchmans have been banned from a museum...that could only happen to the Buchmans. OK, so now they're telling us that Paul and Jamie met when they were kids?
Gideon58
02-27-24, 03:32 PM
Season Two, Ep 8. God how full of yourself do you have to be to watch yourself turn 30? Is it kind of weird that Ira bought Jamie shoes for her birthday? That scene at the box office was so Curb Your Enthusiasm. Loved Paul's reply when Jamie asked about her hair. How did soup get on the phone? Are neckties that easily ripped? Why would the machine turn off 10 seconds into the message? "What's later? Dinner at separate restaurants?" LOVED the singers doing the theme song during the button, that was awesome.
Gideon58
02-27-24, 03:57 PM
Season Two, Ep 9. The cold open was cute. "Certain places have these things and I've read them." Love all the trouble they put into trying to fool Murray. The man was standing there, in what world was that Jamie's money? OMG, Cyndi Lauper! Paul ordering from room service was adorable. I hope Mark comes back at some point because Fran is getting really annoying without him. She hs no chemistry with Ira. John Pankow's scene with Cyndi was excellent.

Season Two, Ep 10. Loved that leopard-skinned vest Jamie had on in the opening scene. "Ten minutes for tuna fish and then you." Loved the accent discussion...bad accents can take me out of a movie too. Didn't realize Lou was still here...another character who has worn out his welcome. Lou and Fran hooking up has disaster written all over it. Why do all sitcom wives have to fix up their husbands' work associates? Why did Fran's ordering ribs prompt Jamie's reminder about rackettball? Loved when Paul looked under the table when Ursula asked them if they were table 14. Paul learning Lou cut his film, his reaction was the closest thing I've seen to genuine anger from Paul since the pilot. "Wasn't that TV Kramer from Seinfeld playing the security guard? Larry Hankin I think his name is. Jamie needs to get a job...a pro racketball tour? Stempel- first time I've heard Jamie's maiden name mentioned. "If you had come over twenty minutes earlierm I was going to be a silversmith." Jamie going back to school is a storyline arc rife with possibilities, I just hope it won't be a duplicate of what happened when Jill went back to school on Home Improvement.
Gideon58
02-29-24, 05:07 PM
Season Two, Ep 11. What does flat pasta taste like? Sometimes Paul hides his contempt for Lisa really well and other times, not so much. Only Lisa would be proud to be a subject in a shrink's book. She did not spit that pasta back in the bowl. I'm sorry, Paul pretending to help Jamie off the phone was hysterical. Yay, Steven Wright's back. I cracked up Steven when he said he read the book out loud. "You know I bet Sybil's sister was proud of her." I loved when Steven told Lisa that her scarf was too busy. What high school student uses the word "overbearing"? Loved Paul translating what Lisa was trying to say through a mouth of novocane.

02-29-24, 05:32 PM
Season Two Ep 12. Jamie and the slanty floor, that was funny. "Not only do I not want to go, but had I gone and you had led me to such place, I would never forgive you." Why does she ask him when she's not going to be satisfied with whatever answer he's going to give? "Nice big top for you for ripping up our cards." The man with the nice ass took all the money." "It says here that you died two days ago, I'm so sorry." 10,000 Paul Buchmans? Is Buchman really that common a surname? "I'm afraid you're both dead til Monday." Paul is taking this remarkably well. Helen and Judy Geeson were hysterical at the door. I can't believe Paul actually wanted to look at the guy. Three credit cards cut up? "You never haunted me, just did annoying things once in a while. I thought the kiss was going to make the guy with the great ass disappear.
Gideon58
03-04-24, 05:07 PM
Season Two, Ep 13. Liked the comparison of a boarding pass to a piece of cheese. "And you're the man of the house now, so start peeing standing up." Loved Jamie trying to be nonchalant about Paul's return. Of course Jamie doesn't like it, but I loved Paul's vie o clock shadow. How do windows get stolen? How devastated does Paul have to be about not making it home for Jamie to be happy? the phone sex was cute and funny. "That mouth was talking to my mother, not enough therapy in the world." Love Paul's giant orange parka. Wait, Jamie just allows Lisa to stay in their apartment and eat their food while they're gone?
Gideon58
03-04-24, 06:14 PM
Season Two, Ep 14. the cold openings are getting less cute. Did they make Murray do that? Frannie and Ira slept together? I totally missed that. "One of my troops may have crossed to the other side." I liked Fran's story better than Ira's. Can't believe Jamie said "Whom". Ursula kills me. Why would Paul keep talking to Ursula in front of Jamie? Fran and Ira are terrible liars, I can't believe they bought that. I don't understand why Paul and Jamie were so interested in painting Fran's apartment no matter how many hints Fran and Ira dropped. "There's a guy in a trenchcoat, he might be carrying a chisel." Loved the moment when Paul and Jamie put it all together.
Gideon58
03-05-24, 04:42 PM
Season Two Ep 15. OK, these you tube videos of the episodes feature sometimes full and sometimes partial versions of the theme song, is that how it was during the original network run or did they always due theme song? "You used my future for a coaster?" "Remember the first time you saw the co-ops on her?" Never occurred to me that the VR guy would be a kid, that's great. Watching Paul react to the virtual had me on the floor. He should have told Jamie first. Did Paul think telling Jamie about Christy Brinkley would endear Jamie to the idea? Why would anyone want to be a shoe? "I hear that convent thing is spectacular." OMG, virtual Andre Agassi was so freaking hot. That was sweet that she picked Paul after Andre left. The button was VERY funny.
Gideon58
03-06-24, 04:08 PM
Season Two, Ep 16. Watches freeze? I didn't know that. The return of the slanty floor...nice. Jerry Adler was a funny landlord. It was so weird seeing Jamie sharpening pencils...does anybody use or sharpen pencils anymore? Why was Paul flirting with that woman anyway? My heart sang as Paul talked himself out of his plan while Jamie was getting more and more into it. Why would Fran call right in the middle of Paul and Jamie's evening? Lisa is worse than Jackie during the early seasons of Roseanne. I love freaking Ursula. Fran shouldn't have said anything to Jamie. That guy grabbing Paul just at that exact moment was stupid.
Gideon58
03-06-24, 04:31 PM
Season Two, Ep 18. "Nobody likes a documentary on Saturdays...tradition." Loved Jamie trying to turn cleaning out the closet into an adventure. Can't believe Jamie saved her pom pons, doesn't strike me as something Jamie would save. Why does Ursula call Lisa Gary? Loved the way they turned away and covered their eyes, that cracked me up. LOVED the twist that the tape ended up at the video store, did not see that coming. Which Paymer played the video store clerk? And Ryan Stiles too? "I coud have sworn I recognized the seven of clubs." Loved that Jamie kept calling Paul "Bill" and reminded him that hehas "clearance." Loved Jamie's impression of Paul's face. It was Steve Paymer as the clerk, saw it in the credits.

03-07-24, 04:27 PM
Season 2 Ep 19, It's time for Jamie to get a job, she's approaching crazed territory. That was Jerry Adler playing the super who I mostly know from The Sopranos and the Woody Allen movie Manahattan Murder Mystery. She was really funny. Loved the couple they caught in the middle of sex too. "How can anybody dance in this apartment, the floors are too slanty." What was that dirt in the final envelope? I can't believe they mentioned Tower Records, talk about a blast from the past. Clearly, Jamie is not going to be happy with anything Paul says about her writing. "Many a man has been swept off their feet by a lady with nice nectarine." I don't see that the people in these letters are exactly like the Buchmans like Jamie thinks. That was Oscar winner Kim Hunter playing Millie. Lovely resolution of the story behind the letters. That was SO sweet of Paul to ask Millie to dance. That was a lovely little episode.

Season 2, Ep 20. I've never heard of a lemon muffin. "Why should she pay if they're not gonna cook?" Loved the way they reviewed everything that they can and can't talk about in front of their parents. Wow, they skipped right over the dinner...how The Usual Suspects of the writers. "Nobody calls from a pay phone on the FDR drive if nothing's wrong." Poor Murray, he really was looking forward to that walk. The grass on other people's mother is always greener. Nice phone work by Fran. I had to laugh when they mentioned call waiting, which is now a thing of the past. "It's like when I had my adenoids out and Mom said we were going to watch them tape Match Game." I can never remember his name, but the actor playing the vet played Chuck Cedar in Mr. Deeds with Adam Sandler. That was SO sweet when Murray cried every time they said the word mother. That's Alan Arbus playing the dog owner. He played the company shrink on MASH. Murray and his mom talking with the subtitles had me on the floor. Loved the tag too.

03-08-24, 04:21 PM
Season Two, Ep 21. Why the hell would Murray be standing on the dining table? That was actually very funny, though I don't know why. Did Jamie really wake him up in the middle of the night about what she should wear? She does spring a lot of trick questions on Paul. "You know what? You don't need me for this conversation?" Truer words were never spoken. "My throat hurts and I'm too old." As soon as I saw that envelope, I knew Paul forgot to mail Jamie's tuition. "I'm looking at you I see five problems." Love that Jamie kept Paul up all night worrying about school, but the morning comes and she can't wait to get out of there. "If this was a cartoon, I'd pull your tongue like a window shade." I just realized this another show, like Seinfeld, that takes place in New York, but there's at least one character who owns a car, and anybody knows that nobody in Manhattan owns a car. The French teacher actually looks like my French teacher in high school. Lisa and the logic teacher were hysterically. Cannot believe Ira tried to bribe an ethics professor. Was that Julia Sweeney playing the French teacher? Little convenient that Jamie doesn't even shift her footing a bit, let alone look around while she's standing in line. Very funny episode.+

03-08-24, 04:43 PM
Season Two, Ep 22. Cute cold open. Why does Paul want to film a short order cook for a documentary? OK, why is Mark working as a busboy and calling himself Antonio? "You know the thing where you keep touching my wife? I don't like that." What the hell is Mark thinking? "When she slapped him? That's the last thing I understood." Mark is being so weird. I can't believe Paul told Mark that Fran slept with Ira. Wait a minute...Fran and Mark reconnected over dinner with Nick and Nick still wanted to have breakfast with Fran in the morning? OK, so Mark is not really returning to Frank? I think Jamie just likes to start arguments with Paul just to trap him into saying something inappropriate.
Gideon58
03-08-24, 05:11 PM
Season Two, Ep 23. Paul's never heard of Garth brooks? "There's no such thing as professional tea? What is that? Tea that gets paid for being tea." "You know, for an animal, you have little sense of your surroundings." So because she can't sleep. she's not going to allow Paul to sleep either? Listening to one of your stories will help me sleep." "Atomic Zinger? Does that sound calming to you?" Who is Paul to slight Raul Julia and proclaim John Astin the "real" Gomez. Knew the second Paul slammed that door it was locked. The return of Jerry Adler. Why was it when Paul and Jamie returned to the super';s floor did their voices suddenly sound like they were in a tunnel? Loved Wicker's reply to Murray barking? "He's got a motto...I gotta get me a motto." LOVED that he would never actually admit to being John Astin.

Season Two, Ep 24. Why does Paul's family call separately about their anniversary why don't they all celebrate together? Wanted to smack Jamie when she told Paul to get "some of those things." "I've been meaning to smell the roses, but I've been so darn busy." I'm really not enjoying Mark's return, he's kind of annoying now. I'm already scared for Paul having to tell Jamie he lost his wedding ring. "If I need any stuff, I'll chant for it." I can't believe Mark expects Fran to come back the way he is now. "We have cake, we have draino, we have cheese by the pound." Loved that Ira didn't care about Mark forgiving him for sleeping with Fran. "Did you know Brenda Vaccaro lives in our building? I can't believe she doesn't recycle."

03-11-24, 04:25 PM
Season Two, ep 25, which is apparently the second of a two-parter called "With this Ring" and is the second season finale. Swish army knives have fish scalers on them? He bought her a cotton candy machine for their anniversary? Why are their family members insisting on taking them out to lunch separately? Why don't they all eat together? The subject of children should have been discussed more specifically before the Buchmans got married? They didn't know that confectionary sugar is different than regular sugar. Paul's nephew is a brat. "I don't want to call my mother, she'll know from my voice I already ate." I just noticed that Paul's mother never refers to Jamie by name. Loved the reveal that Paul was conceived on the kitchen table. "My first two lunches just collided." Didn't really understand the monkey dream sequence. OK, they didn't pay for that ice cream. Kind of soft for a season finale.
Gideon58
03-11-24, 04:56 PM
Season 3, Ep 1. Third season premiere..."You don't want to go out, that's where they keep the heat." Loved when Jamie out the frozen underwear on. I thought Jamie already went back to school. Jamie's going to be thinking about Fran the whole time they're away, but Fran should have told her. Paul's mother has the nerve to talk to Jamie about children without using her name? She never refers to Jamie by name. Loved Lisa's reasoning for dating her mailman. Loved that Murray was mad at Paul but not Jamie. Can't believe Paul actually trapped himself in the car. "I don't think you bring a child into the world just to beat the heat." The Clamenza thing was funny.

03-12-24, 04:26 PM
Season 3 Ep2. Loved Paul introducing Murray to the joys of West Side Story. Loved when Murray growled at the neighbor. I guess Murray got the neighbor's dog pregnant. What happened to Judy Geeson and Paxton Whitehead? Loved that Paul's mother made Jamie move her so she could sit next to Paul. Murray can open a window by himself, how awesome is that? "Murray did you leave the key under the mat?" Awww. the look on Murray's face when Paul closed the door. Or when he pawed at the neighbor's door? Why are the neighbors acting like what's going on with their dogs is Paul and Jamie's fault? Fell off my chair when I saw Murray pacing.

Season 3 Ep 3. Aww, Murray's scared of thunder. "I wanna find the guy who invented panty hose and beat an apology out of him." Who is Jamie to just take charge of where Uncle Van's ashes should go. I can't believe she put the ashes right back on the table after Paul moved them off. Jamie's being really creepy about those ashes. They don't say Hi at GA meetings? I didn't know that. Loved Ernie Sabella as Maurice. Did Lisa actually yell Olly Olly Oxen Free to an urn full of ashes?

Season 3, Ep 4. BTW, I did want to mention that I was surprised when I finally noticed during the closing credits that the theme song is not entitled "Mad About You." It is entitled "Final Frontier." Just thought I'd throw that in while I was thinking about it. Why is Jamie so insistent that she measured when the thing is clearly not fitting through the door? I don't know why, but I hate that Jamie might be right about Mr. Wicker. OMG, is Wicker falling for a tenant? "It takes 30 years for your eyes to go bad, you're going to fix them in 60 minutes?" Wow, that salesgirl didn't even notice Jamie. So there's nowhere else in this entire building where Wicker can stay except for the Buchman's. Nice to see Anita Gillette as Mrs. Wicker. God she seems to have been in the business for about 100 years.

Season 3, Ep 5. Jamie doing Chinese food from scratch? Nothing good can come from that. Isn't that Louis Zorich playing Paul's father? I knew about full frontal Harvey Keitel in Bad Lieutenant, but I've never seen The Piano. The commercial was really funny. Paul nailed the Sloopy Dunbar story. Murray licking envelopes, how awesome was that? Oooh, Paul actually pulled a Jamie on Jamie when she brought up opening her own business. Charles Hallalan was playing Sloopy Dunbar...Hallahan passed away three years after this guest shot. That scene with Paul and his dad was great. n Paul's dad is so sweet to Jamie, I wish she could get the same treatment from Paul's mom. Hallahan was funny in the tage.

Season 3, Ep 6. David Steinberg directed this episode. So Jamie is going to be driving Paul insane with her new business...I'm shocked. They need cable to watch Andy Griffith? How refreshing was it to hear Jamie actually take even partial blame for something. You could see that Jim Piddock was wearing shorts in the shower. Liked that Paul was the one objecting to stealing cable. You just KNEW the cable guy was going to cut off the entire building. Wow, Jamie actually admitted to being wrong for the second time in a season! Ira, once again, to the rescue. The tag with Al Roker was cute.

Season Three, Ep 7. Loved the way Paul and Helen set up the "we just had a fight' mood when they got into a cab. "Oh God, he waiters are bunching! I told them to circulate!" Jamie looked absolutely amazed at the thought that she might have told a story more than once. Nice to see Wendie Malick as Carol. Why would Paul make two trips to the balcony where everyone is smoking? Loved Eric Stolz as Alan. This guy creates chemistry with pretty much every actress he ever worked with. Was that Kerry Washington playing Carol's girlfriend? What Paul is doing with Carol really should get him in some kind of trouble in a later episode, but I'm pretty sure it won't. "It was really nice to see you...and I did." Malick was amazing keeping a straight face during Paul's bumbling explanation of his lie. That final scene between Helen and Stolz was brilliant. Loved Carol catching Jamie's signal. Can't believe that was what the fight was about. I lost it when the cab driver laughed at the zest story. Checked the credits and that was not Kerry Washington as Carol's girlfriend.

Season Three, Ep 8.The cold open was a little odd. A cold open should produce at least a chuckle. How did Paul mistake Ira for Robert Stack? Loved Jamie instructing Paul on how to peel potatoes. "I had a whole schedule I'm on nights, making ice." I noticed Paul's mother has still never spoken Jamie's name. Penny Fuller and John Karlen playing Jamie's parents? Another television endorsement for Cranberry sauce out of the can. Who are these parents to just rearrange Paul and Jamie's table while they were gone? Seriously? Oh, Murray! "Vinyl...just like leather, but nobody gets hurt." "What do they care, I buy ice." I love Paul's dad (Louis Zorich). Fran on the phone with her kid got tiresome pretty quickly. I have to go with Jamie on Paul leaving the turkey in the hall. Who saw Mom trying to save Paul and Jamie's face?

Season 3, Ep 9. Didn't get that cold open at all, which is getting to be the norm here. "We're like an Italian couple." Wow, the way Paul and Jamie bounce from one subject to another with a single line is maddening. What the hell is meat loaf love? Does Jamie intentionally pick a fight with everyone she has a conversation with? Are we going to learn exactly what happened in Aruba? "Well, I'll say this, I don't not wanna stay in." "So I don't have to think of Niacin all day." Jamie is so adept and snatching a insult out of the depths of a compliment. The arousal scene was cute.

Season 3 Ep 10. Best cold open we've had ion awhile. Loved the faces that Paul was making while Jamie was screaming about her street escapade. "We love this city, they just gave me money." Loved the cabbie turning off the radio. That man was a jerk for not getting out of the cab. "You know what you are? You are the reason that people move to Jersey." Paul trying to sell tickets in front of the theater, I think I see what's coming. Bibi Osterwald as the old lady haggling about the tickets...I first saw her back in the 70's on a sitcom called Bridget Loves Bernie...she played Bernie's mother. OMG, the actress who played Velma looks familiar. At least they didn't make the talking couple in the back black. Very clever twist putting the big mouth in a wheelchair. "Very rarely fights with people in wheelchairs." Any panelist would have caught Caroline Kennedy on To Tell the Truth despite she might not have even been in her teens when To Tell the Truth was on. "I carry a dictionary and step in veal." It's driving me crazy not being able to remember where I know that actress playing Velma from. Okay checked the credits and Velma was played by Marita Geraghty and checked her IMDB page, she played Nancy, Bill Murray's one night stand in Groundhog Day. Loved the tag with Rudy Guilliani.

Season 3 Ep 11. Murray rolling the tennis ball with his nose, how cute was that? "If you had given me a little notice, I would have gone to the gym and had my bangs trimmed." Lisa's right, why did Paul yell chicken a la king? "Sweetie, this is already the most boring movie ever made." "They're also gay or foreign or gritty." Ira's commercial was hysterical and loved Paul's referencing Barfly. Fran's reaction to the camera was hysterical. Why does Jamie want someone else to play Paul's wife? Jamie is acting really nutty in this episode, how has Paul not slapped her yet? A used coffee filter? Seriously? Why are we all of a sudden learning about Murray's passion for fetch? Paul looked like he was close to breaking character during Lisa's performance on the kitchen camera. Didn't really understand the point of getting Judy Geeson involved in the fight. True confessions directly into the camera was funny as hell.

Season 3 Ep 12. The cold open was weird. When Paul said Mr. Mooney, the only thing I could think of was Gale Gordon on The Lucy Show. Does Ira have a key to the Buchman's apartment? Helen's impression of Paul was hysterical. Ursula...best walk away waitress ever. Anne Bobby worked really with Jon Pankow as Susannah. If the truth be told, Helen Hunt and Jodie Foster could be sister. Someday Paul is going to drive Ursula over the bend...he seems to love messing with her head. It's kind of admirable that Ira wouldn't leave Susannah alone...I mean, it's his cousin's house and he doesn't know Susannah.

Season 3 Ep 13. "It's not a scrapbook, it's a freezer". I thought the top of the wedding cake is supposed to be eaten on the first anniversary. A wedding flashback three seasons in? Trying to retrieve already mailed mail? No good can come of this. "It's the worst design, I don't know how they expect to get mail out." "The Man committed a felony how can we not invite him." Sylvia took the mistake better than I thought of. What's with the obsession with "What the World Needs Now is Love"? Good thing the mailman's wife is able to make it. I love that they expected people invited not to come. Nice to see Jane Carr as the party planner. Whoever heard of white bridesmaids' dresses? Is John Pankow really playing the sax? I'm assuming because it was a wedding flashback episode that this was the first of two parts.

Season 3 Ep 14. I'm loving that Paul is dance-challenged. How fun was it to see Vito Scotti as the tailor? Can't believe he was still alive in the 90's. "How can there be a dress code at a strip club?" I have to admit I didn't know that brides and grooms are supposed to give each other gifts. Lyle Lovett was hysterical. "Men say a lot of things only listen to a third of them." Jamie and the stripper talking on the phone, I thought I would lose it. Loved when Jamie's dad called Paul's mom Sylvania. So Jamie and Paul were already living together before they got married? "All I know is I wanna wake up naked with you for the rest of my life." Wedding vows and jackhammers, it doesn't get any better than that. Guess they chose not to tell their parents about the real wedding.

Season 3 Ep 15. Excellent cold open. Jamie's nightshirt was absolutely adorable. "Cows wear suede, ever see a cold cow?" Paul would rather freeze to death than admit Jamie was right and go back and get his parka. I cracked up when Jamie told Murray to smile. Lisa really needs to get over herself. Maggie was more gracious to Murray than she's ever been to Jamie and Paul. Not sure why, but I was less bothered by Jamie wanting a show biz career for Murray than I was about Paul's discomfort and mild jealousy about it. OMG, I love Brent Spiner...saw him on Broadway in Sunday in the Park with George. Loved when Murray woke up from his dream with his tail wagging. Very impressed that Paul actually admitted to being jealous of Murray. Murray got into a Megadeath video...how awesome was that? You just know that Lisa jumped at the chance to be Murray's assistant. Are dogs color-blind? I lost it when the director accused Murray of ad-libbing. Cute tag. This episode had me on the floor.

Season 3 Ep 16. "After three or four years, what's left to be said about meat?" Penny Fuller and Meg Wylie were adorable together. So, wait a minute, Carl Reiner is going to be playing Alan Brady as if he were a real person? Cute idea, it reminds of Marlon Brando's role in The Freshman. Loved Lisa and Jamie throwing their mother back and forth over sushi. Would love to know why that guy can't call Tina Louise. Can't remember the last time I heard Mr Greenjeans referenced. Aunt Lolly had an affair with Alan Brady...how funny was that? "Give my regards to oblivion." Wasn't impressed with Helen's Mary Tyler Moore impression. I was just thinking that Carl Reiner should have won an Emmy for his work here and I went to his IMDB page and learned that he did!!

Season 3 Ep 17. Was Jamie seriously telling her father how to make a sandwich over the phone.? "Understand how much I'm not going to do laundry." Loved Paul's happy dance when Jamie finally left the apartment. Outside of Ira, I don't think Paul has any guys. So do both Fran and Lisa have carte blanche to the Buchmans' apartment when they're not there? This episode reminds me of the first scene in Mr. Mom where Teri Garr goes off to work for her first day and every repairman in town shows up on the same day. "The Man fought two wars he can't cut a melon." Always good to see Debra Mooney, who also played a nun on an episode of Will and Grace.

Season 3 Ep 18. Pretty sure Lisa doesn't know who JD Salinger is. It's so weird hearing the term Yukon. Loved Paul's reply to hearing Lisa is going to look at a macaw. I hate the way Lisa doesn't appreciate anything Jamie does for her. "I can't direct in these, I gotta point to teamsters." Of course she took your purse, Jamie there was a doll's head in the purse. "Eighty percent of the country is uptown." Why does Lisa have a mayonnaise jar in her purse? Love how the words "You must be Jamie" brought up all of Jamie's insecurities about herself and her sister. Lisa looked incredible when she walked into that job interview. "How could you let me take that meeting with a raisin in my tooth?" Loved Paul getting zapped with the stun gun.

Season 3 Ep 19 Why would they leave for five days and not lock the apartment? "Be my mother until we get on the ground please?" Loved Jamie trying to "pop up" the TV. Loved Caroline Aaron as the travel agent. :I'm going to have the reuben and the fries of your people." Jamie pretending to be French was hysterical. Loved that sequence of Paul and Jamie separately lying to all the tourists. Can't believe Jamie got away with the insanity story and can't wait to see Paul's reaction when he learns about it. Oh, they didn't go that way, I liked it. Loved the waiter seating Paul's invisible guest. Paul's last speech was great,

Season 3 Ep 20. Why doesn't Paul strike me as the kind of guy who would have lucky socks? I also have a hard time believing Jamie would do Laundry for Ira. The return of Cyndi Lauper...maybe that's why this episode is entitled "Money Changes Everything." "He had a good life, he got to be a Count." I always wondered why Lauper never did more acting, she's really funny. OMG, they referenced PF Flyers! Remember those? Do they still make those? Marianne now has more money than God, no good can come from that. Why can't Jamie try on the tiara? Mary Ann lending money to Ira is a horrible idea. I understand Paul's intentions, but I'm not sure it is his business to protect Ira from Marianne. Loved Patrick Ewing's cameo. It's funny to see this kind of thing going on between Ira and Paul...we usually see female characters acting like this. Contrary to Jamie's belief, nobody uses the word obsequious. :It could be such a good movie like Citizen Kane, only taller." That was awesome when Paul gave Ira the check I didn't see that coming. Just checked the IMDB and learned that Lauper won an Emmy for this episode.

Season 3 Ep 21. Why was important for us to learn this was Paul's birthday in 1995? "I just don't know in what form the disaster will take, thus the fascination." OK, we're going backwards but still don't get the point. Who's Harriet? "I'm frozen, I lost a boot and I'm not with you." He takes Murray on the walk but doesn't take Jamie? I understand Jamie being upset about not being invited on the walk, but leaving him was a bit much. Threatening to leave Paul because of his walk was stupid. And he ignored the apology that he was owed? The face in the wedding cake was classic. "James, it's the circle of life."

Season 3, Ep 22. Paul made a cute milkman. Paul's entrance reminded me that milkmen are a thing of the past. Was that Jon Polito playing Jamie and Fran's client? Loved him in Barton Fink. The return of Eric Stolz! I love the way Helen and Eric work together. "I watch a little Regis, feels like Leno." Jamie's just dying for Paul to be jealous of Alan. "Because I love you and I trust you and I haven't slept in 42 hours." Paul should have known that he wasn't going to get any sleep unless he admitted to being bothered about Alan. He should know that by now. What would be the point of Jamie giving Alan a framed copy of his comic book? I thought Paul would be angry about Queen Talon. "I wonder how Catwoman's husband would handle this?" I don't know, I think this could have been funnier if Paul was upset. Loved the kid mistaking Jamie for Queen Talon. "I got a space open right between Alan Alda and Brenda Vaccaro." I don't believe Jamie jumped on Alan for saying "whom"!! She always does that to Paul. Jamie's obsession with having the last word was kind of stupid. That animated sequence had me on the floor.

Season 3 Ep 23. Why would Paul lie and say his mother was sorry she couldn't come with him. You know his mother never said that. Lisa still has her job...I'm impressed. Why would Jamie trust Ira to buy a gift for Paul? Paul cracked me up pulling stuff out of their cabinet to make an anniversary present. That movie poster was awesome. Jamie doesn't like it so she wants Paul not to like it...classic Jamie. They met a newsstand? Didn't they meet in Jamie's office? Paul's rant in the Twilight Room was excellent. OK, so this is some out of body thing? Or because the newsstand burned down they're not married anymore?

Season 3 Ep 24, which is the conclusion of the previous episode and the season finale. As I suspected, the burning of the newsstand has triggered a time warp thing where Paul and Jamie haven't met yet. Why did Jamie go to her office? Howe many first meetings are we going to be given a Paul and Jamie first meeting? OK, this is just a little cosmic cute for me. Ira going out with Jamie? Seriously? :I could walk one end of the park to other, no problem." They included Susannah in this, didn't see that coming. You challenge my analogies?" Seemed kind of odd for a season finale, but I did like the final scene,.

I have decided that I'm not watching anymore of this. Each episode is just more of the same. Paul bending over backwards to please the un-pleasable Jamie. It just seems like nothing's good enough for her and no matter what Paul does, Jamie is not happy and each episode is just a variation on this theme and three seasons of this is enough, I'm out.
