Nothing Kiss ever done would fit in the category "clever". That's the fun part of it - that they are like cartoons. :D I just wish they had stopped playing after their first or second reunion tour. :(

I was one of the few that hated 'em. My best friend when I was a kid was a worshiper. Me, I was an AC/DC kid.
Another band that fits into the bands that are super popular but can't seem to play very well catagory. My mother had me listening to The Beatles and Pink Floyd in the 70's, and I stuck with them all through High School etc...
So....no Kiss for me.

That's funny. When I was a kid I loved all the heavy metal bands and hard rock bands: Kiss, Van Halen, Twisted Sister, Quiet Riot, Mötley Crüe, Accept, Helix - you name it and I thought it ROCKED! Except for one band - I really didn't like Ac/Dc. Now, as an "adult", I think Ac/Dc (Bon Scott era) is one of the best bands ever. Oh yeah, same with Sabbath. I think it was something in the way that Bon Scott and Ozzy sang that I didn't appreciate as a kid. Now I think it sounds schweeet. :D

That is one of the things you hear about Kiss the most, that "they can't really play". Even though it is true to some extent I think it's a myth that's been exeggerated over the years and something the band's haters use to put the band down. With the exception of the lousy drummer Peter Criss they are all decent muscicians. Ace Frehley makes up for what he lacks in technical skills with a really cool and personal style, even though he is somewhat limited. Paul Stanley as rythm guitarist and Gene Simmons as bassist are both very professional I think. Paul Stanley is also a very gifted singer and on occasions a great songwriter. And listen to the Simmons piece Going Blind on the Hotter Than Hell album. One of the best ballads ever written. And on their best studio album Rock'n'Roll Over even Peter Criss seems to get it all together.
If you compare them to Led Zeppelin for example, yeah sure, they can't play. A lot of the 70's heavy metal band were virtuosos on their instruments but I think one should compare them to bands like T-Rex and other glam rock bands instead, that is more their genre.
Kiss used to be my idols. They are the only idols I've ever had, today I have a much healthier relationship to artists J-LO, PLEASE MARRY ME GOD NO NOT BEN NOOOOOO I LOVE YOU AAAARRRRGGGH! and I have kind of grown out of Kiss. I still think that Alive and Rock'n'Roll Over rock stone hard though. :yup:
Sorry about the essay.

I would be an idiot if I was listening to them for their technical ability as musicians... I listen to them because they're a fun band.

No, you don't. You listen to them because of Gene's tongue.

Ok, KISS has talent, you may think I'm just baised (sp?) but I'm not really that much, they do have talent. Peter Criss used to have talent, but drugs ruined him. On ALIVE he does very well IMO, Ace Frehley is the exact same, great guitarist in the 70's, lost talent in the 90's after the drugs. Paul Stanley is IMO a very underrated guitarist and amazing singer, Simmons is a talented bassist, no not as good as say, maybe Victor Wooten or John Paul Jones, but he's talented. And I agree with Garrett, technical skills doesn't make the band totally what it is, but it somewhat matters to me, and when people say they don't have skill aggravates me because if people heard some of the songs, they'd change their mind. Zeppeiln is the best, but KISS is my 2nd fav. band so I must stick up for them. AC/DC is also great, but their riffs really all sound the same. Sure I can tell the difference on the songs, but when it's all in the same key and stuff it gets rather dull. But I still love the band. So my point being, if you don't like KISS, that's perfectly fine, but to say they don't have talent is just plain wrong because they have it up the butt. Especially Eric Carr and Bruce Kulick.
P.S. the "upp the butt" statement was not to be taken in a sexual manner.

"To my fans...
April 6th
Some people love hearing themselves talk, Gene Simmons is one of them. I read online what he said to the Iowa and German press. Now let me tell you what's really important. I have never been so happy in my whole life. I can finally be free to be an Artist again.
I surround myself with people who love me and respect me. My endearing and supporting wife Gigi, True friends, and a loving family, and always God. If not for him there would be nothing. These are things that make me a rich man, Mr. Simmons.
I sang and drummed my heart out on the Aerosmith tour, FACT. The real fans know that, END OF STORY. And I also missed Ace on the tour.
I am in excellent health, wealthy and working on being wiser. I just wanted you fans to know that. I won't even comment on what Mr. Simmons had to say, because it's NOT TRUE, and I don't need to justify his lies.
The original band is over. And as a founding member I am not shocked at Gene and Paul turning a legendary band into a cover act for just plain profit, How very sad.
But the crazy thing is? The fans will still follow because they are the real heart of KISS. I was proud to be a part of something that was once great.
God Bless and Good-bye to that part of my life.
Peter Criss"

What did Gene say about Peter Criss?
Yeah really, do tell. But to tell the truth, I'm glad Peter Criss left again because let's face it, Eric Singer blows the pants off of Peter Criss, figuratively speakin :randy:

My friend's dad is a KISS super freak, so I've sorta grown up around it, and even though I don't think their music is all that special, but it still is fun. Good yelling at the top of your lungs while drunk kind of tunes. I like them becuase they knew they were all about that; the spectacle, the larger than life aspect, and the partying.
