You see an interesting documentary about them, or read a biography you enjoyed? I tend to do this with music, with bands I already like. I just read Keith Emerson and Greg Lake's autobiographies side-by-side, to see how each guy described each event/period, what they emphasized or omitted.

On a side note, I found my favorite comedy podcast after noticing one of the trio on Twitter who keeps posting hilarious or serious stuff that was always good, and thus, re-tweeted.

I've only really done that with actual artists, i.e. painters. I don't think I've done it with a musical documentary.

I wish more of my rock heroes would write their autobiography. Mick, I’m talking about you buddy. Jimmy Page too. Heck, I would read that because Pagey would probably tell the truth, the whole truth ….

Loved Clapton’s autobiography, warts & all. Followed up with Pattie Boyd’s autobiography when she let us know it was all Eric’s fault. :)

I loved and recommend

Light and Shade Conversations with Jimmy Page (Brad Tolinski)

Led Zeppelin on Led Zeppelin (compilation of chronological interviews) was also great. There's lots of great interviews online, too.

I'm hoping COVID and all the time home has others writing autobiographies. My hope is Peter Cetera from Chicago

Definitely. Watching the documentary Lost Soul made me want to watch all of Richard Stanley's movies (well, there are only three, but still) and listen to all his interviews, Johnny Rotten's memoirs made me want to hear all the Sex Pistols and PiL albums, and I sort of feel guilty about it, but reading Lords of Chaos got me into dungeon synth music and even more into black metal. Reading a biography or watching a documentary about someone, especially if you go in cold, sort of has a "gotta catch 'em all" effect on your brain.
