I recently got myself a double CD of "The Essential Earth, Wind and Fire" and have been grooving to the excellent tunes of that '70s soul band. Anyone else like soul music?

Although Earth, Wind and Fire are propably one of the best Funk bands ever, I prefer sixties soul like Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Booker T & the MG's etc., basically the Stax sound. I also very much like Motown's brand of city Soul , and there also was a time, up to the mid-70's, when James Brown was really cool.

Sounds pretty cool! Actually the only James Brown I've heard (that I remember) is the song "Living in America" from Rocky IV! lol!

I liked that era as well. Bill Withers, Aretha, Billy Paul, Marvin Gaye...and so on...

By the way...have you seen the documentary Standing in the Shadows of Motown? If you haven't I highly recommend it. It's a terrific acknowledgment and look at the musicians (the Funk brothers) that created the sound of Motown. I believe before this came out...they were not previously given created for what they did.

I like all kinds of music as long as it is good music, no particular genres really. But I have to admit that I need to get more soul cd:s. Recently I have bought Aretha, Marvin Gaye, some 60's and 70's funk and right now I am actually listening to James Brown Live at The Apollo 1962 which I received in the mail today. :D It sounds like I got myself I gem. ;)

Earth, Wind and Fire is the smoothest, coolest sound I've ever heard! I'm listening to this song right now called All about love--it's mind-blowing! I also like September (probably my favorite song of all time), Evil, Let's Groove and others. All the tracks on the "Essential" album are amazing! I hear EWF is planning a new album, incidentally... I think I saw it on their website.
