I saw this film as a boy and was deeply moved by Lowell's dedicated and heartbreaking attempts to protect and preserve the last garden's know to Man, now protected in domes attached to a space craft as earth has become too polluted. The in difference of the other crue members reflect the attitude of many people in today's society as so many people carelessly pollute the environment. As a boy I deeply adored Lowell's robot companions Hewe and Dowe and personally I think they deserve the popularity of R2 D2 and C-3PO from Star Wars. Overall silent running is a painfully underappreciated film that holds a message that people need to acknowledge today.
