Excellent dark comedic spy series based on The Slough House book series by Mick Herron.

They have already shot the second season and have been renewed for two more at least.

Liking season 2 so far.
That's good to know.

I am waiting for all the episodes to drop. Like always, I don't have anything to do on New Years eve. The season two will be my New Year's party.

For sure I won’t have anything to do on NY Eve & that’s the way I like it.

I just finished watching the last two episodes.

Season two is just as fun as the first. Maybe more, because it got darker & because of that mid-season shock.

Loved Saskia Reeves getting more to do as Standish. Such a likeable character.

The fact that we got to see the teaser of the third season is nice. Can't wait for it.

Yeah, season 2 is brilliant. I love Standish being a spy now! She’s one of my faves. Even Roddy got a “mission”. The guy playing River is so handsome. Love watching him.

Seeing the trailer was fun. Only show that had two seasons in a single year + a season 3 trailer. It’s crazy. :p

I will not allow anything bad to happen to Standish.

Season 3 drops November 29. Yay!

Started this, three episodes in, really digging it. No surprise, I love the understated le Carré style of spy thriller (though after the first episode it gets a lot less understated). And yeah Oldman's great, no surprise there either.

Gonna keep flying through this at the rate of an episode or two per day, so should be done in a couple of weeks.

Brilliant show. My fave character is probably the young guy (too lazy to look up his name) who keeps messing up. I also really like the computer guy. He’s so weird.

Did you like the new version (a few years ago) of the Tinker Taylor movie with Oldman & Cumberbatch, et al? I love that movie.

Surely they didn’t permanently kill off the wonderful Katherine Waterston in the pilot of season 3?

During my walk today I decided there must be a back story for her & the man she was in bed with. So we’ll have flashbacks?

PS A LOT of running & chase scenes during season 3 so far. Might be good to tone those down a tad.

Discovered this series about ten days ago and after a week maraton, I've completed both, S01 and S02.
Gary Oldman role is a real cult.
Inbetween the scenes, it is sad to see how heavily the world political regime interfered Great Britain and almost ruined probably the last survived country.
How well the filmmakers juxtaposed the vilified football hooligans and poor KGB agents to the real evil. I wonder if the audience understand the message.

I enjoyed this season, even if it felt a bit more action oriented instead of having the usual hush-hush spywork. Some of the things kinda felt over the top, which I expect in more outlandish spy action movies/series & not this.

There was little less of Jackson Lamb as well, as they gave more screen time to others. Nothing wrong in that.

The scene at the petrol pump in the Final episode got to me. Probably because I care about Standish.

Lastly, I am excited about the villain in the fourth season.

I enjoyed all 3 seasons. But I think they could make the Lamb character slightly less grungy without losing any of the impact of his character. It's a stretch to think that anyone like that in his position could exist. Oldman is a fine actor though.

So Spider unfortunately is dead. Great character, brilliantly acted by Fox

Is Duffy dead too? Because that would be a real shame. Terrific character to play.

I’ve never seen a tv show that zips along so fast. Compare it to another AppleTV + show - Severance - that began at about the same time. We have yet to see season 2 of Severance whereas Slow Horses had two seasons in its first year.

Yeah, I was kind of surprised about Spider. Loathsome but a good character, and I thought maybe a quasi-redemptive arc would've been interesting. And even if not, when he got punched into that car, I laughed because I thought to myself "oh, this is what'll keep happening, he'll keep getting almost killed and every season we'll hear about how he just got out of the hospital again." But no. He survives a gun shot but then gets killed by a single punch. I'd say it's silly but if I'm being honest, that's exactly the kind of stupid, random thing that happens.
Great show, can't wait for more.

Don’t think Spider was a candidate for redemption, but I would be ok with that arc if he were still with us. You probably know that this actor is a scion of the famous Fox family of British actors: Edward, James, et al, female Foxes too.

I feel worse that Duffy is dead because I love this actor & I’m going to miss him.

Everyone knows this show is great, but man. After watching season 1…

I don’t recall a show being this tight and engaging with an almost perfect tone. There is no filler.

A couple of the characters seem like they are just there to get killed off, but that’s not a bad thing.

If I was forced to make one critique, it’s hard to believe some of these people work for an intelligence agency. Even if you’ve been sent to the minor leagues, you had to be good enough to go pro in the first place.

Great TV Show. Love the soundtrack too.
Was surprised though that Sid Baker (Olivia Cooke) had to die so sudden after 3 episodes only.
She probably got summoned by King Viserys I Targaryen (Paddy Considine) to become his beloved young wife - the Queen Alicent Hightower :) That was sad. I kinda liked her more as Sid Baker.

Look at the people they have in the “major leagues”, as it were. They don’t seem exactly brains of the universe either. For example Spyder (Web).

That makes sense.

Maybe the MI-5 are more aggressive, cutthroat, etc. The intelligence may be the same, but a few of the SH posse don’t seem as ambitious.

Then again, I could see little episodes showing how each got there. Now they are broken, yadda ya and resigned to their fates.

Cartwright(?)(Mr. Hair) reaks of the “coach the best player” the hardest. If he makes it, he is an achiever. If not, it wasn’t meant to be. Who else but Lamb would be a choice to vet him? Plus, his family connection and the mistake he is being “punished” for, was not his fault.

His story arch seems ripe for tropes and possibly subverted.

Sure, some of the SHs have given up. Slough House doesn’t exactly inspire one. Dickensian offices with dusty old files all over the place.

Poor Cartwrong, none of his “attributes” have helped him at all. I see in a trailer that he has a new hairdo. Love it. :)

We started and finished s2 this weekend. Love the short eps and short seasons. It doesn’t even feel like an attention span deal, these episodes are just so tight. We debated changing our movie plans, but ended up watching 2 eps when we got home that night.

Really seems preposterous at times, especially Min. My experience with people trying to get into U.S. intelligence, they are top of their class, never smoked a joint, etc. This show also has a unique way in the way they do action scenes. Not a lot of 10 min fight scenes, action is quick and to the point.

She already wants to watch s3, while I want to save it, at least until season 4 comes out.

It really is so good. It walks such a cool line between Serious Drama Show You Need To Really Engage With and Fun Lighthearted Show You Can Just Enjoy.

My favorite thing, by far, is that it doesn't just do the usual "team of misfits" thing where they're all just a little odd or misunderstood and need the right person to utilize their talents and then they team up wonderfully. They are kind of actual screwups, with actual problems and flaws and tendencies that actually hinder them at key moments. It's such a wonderful subversion of the trope to have the premise be literally true, a subversion of the subversion.

AKA23
06-02-24, 03:49 PM
I definitely like this show and find it to be entertaining, but it's probably the least realistic show within its genre that I've ever seen. There is no way that this team of actual screw ups, who are incompetent far too often, would ever be able to succeed in a career in intelligence.

Finished with Season four. What's not to like here. Just really good television.

Shame about Longridge. Saw it coming when he went out the second time. & the fact they have advertised someone from the group being bumped off.

Coe on the other hand is a fantastic addition.

Few things.
I guessed the lady being River's mum when her younger self was shown. The painting bit led me to it.

Ho being duped by a bot is a bit silly. For someone who is on the computers so much this should be easy to guess.
Kinda hard to believe.

Moira getting her job back by threatening the First Desk is a bit hard to believe too.

On a final note, Kristin Scott Thomas doesn't get enough credit.

Happy to see Standish again. Thought we wouldn't see her this season. But glad they had her.

Was that woman who slapped the man in France River’s mother? That entire thing confused me so much.

Which one was Longridge? Marcus?

I think Ho wanted a girlfriend so much that it clouded his senses. Not the first woman (bot) to deceive a man & manipulate him. Happens all the time worldwide.

Loved the guy who played first desk. Hilarious incompetence.
