Why doesn't YouTube show the dislikes count?

For videos YouTube displays the "like" count but does not display the "dislike" count. They used to. I know this happened a while ago (years ago?) but I never understood the reasoning behind the change. I thought it was useful to know both counts. The dislike count never stopped me from viewing a video if it was something that interested me.

Does someone know the reason behind the Google decision? Or give me your opinion, pro or con.
