For what it's worth, I'm not seeing the images even though they appear to be attachments on this site.
But anyway, a decent start. Chimes at Midnight is my favourite of the bunch. Life of Brian made an old countdown but I revisited it a few years back and found it lacking. Shane and Gone with the Wind are alright. Haven't seen The Set-Up.

I've heard Tobe Hooper was given a pretty decent size budget for this in exchange for making TCM2, I don't know if I would classify it as a masterpiece but I found it to be such a great piece of 80's ridiculousness.

Love A Hard day's Night, but Top Gun hasn't aged very well.
I still haven't seen any other of their films but, this one connected instantly. I never watched Top Gun until maybe a year or so ago and kept it in the dvd player on repeat, it's one of those goofy 80's infinitely rewatchable movies that I always find something else to laugh about. Good soundtrack also.

With the exception of The Prestige (meh) and Gone With the Wind (double meh), I like the rest of these, so I guess I should eventually track down The Set Up, considering I've never even heard of that one.
Oh, and I guess one of these days I should see The Sandlot. Which begs the question, when exactly did The Sandlot become a canonized film? I never even thought of it until the last five or so years, when suddenly it just kept appearing on favorite lists. Is it like The Goonies for kids who grew up in the 80's (ie. decent but not great, had to be a kid at the time to truly 'get it')?

I'd never heard of The Holy Mountain and after a look here and there I can say that I desperately want to see it now.
If you also haven't seen El Topo, it is just as necessary to be watched by anyone who might appreciate what The Holy Mountain is doing.
Frankly, Fando Y Lis is my personal favorite Jodorowsky. But what do I know?
Oh, and I guess one of these days I should see The Sandlot. Which begs the question, when exactly did The Sandlot become a canonized film? I never even thought of it until the last five or so years, when suddenly it just kept appearing on favorite lists. Is it like The Goonies for kids who grew up in the 80's (ie. decent but not great, had to be a kid at the time to truly 'get it')?Pretty much. I saw it four times in theaters and many more times on video, usually at friends' houses. The Goonies comparison is apt for how the movie succeeds at capturing the appeal of summer as a kid (well, interactions outside of school since it's not clear what season The Goonies takes place) as well as how male friends at that age communicate, potty mouthed insults and all. Plus, like that movie, it's endlessly quotable. I still say "you're killing me, Smalls" to this day. As for when it was canonized, I would guess the late '90s/early '00s because that's when stores like Spencer's Gifts were selling shirts with that quote on it.

Some great films here, really in tune with a lot that I love - Carpenter's The Thing gets better and better as time goes by and I see it over again. It seems every time I watch that I realize how well it's made, and appreciating that more enhances the enjoyment levels, which are already high. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance I saw only for the first time last year - it was one of a few I rated 10/10. Last Year at Marienbad, Missing and Solaris are also fairly recently-seen films I've gotten a great deal of joy out of.

Some very solid picks - plus Forrest Gump.
I've gone back and forth on Gump, I really loved it for a very long time, then I couldn't stand it and questioned why I liked it to begin with, now I've come around again to consider it a masterpiece, dumb but brilliant in a certain way.

Revisited this one recently after it was covered in the Junk Filter podcast, and I think it really nails the abnormal quality of life under an oppressive dictatorship, for lack of the better word. So many two-fisted images (the horse running through the streets, the helicopter circling the hotel, the piles of dead bodies).

So many creative genius for me personally spawned from that movie. Murray, Ramis, and Aykroyd are my generations Marx Bros. I suppose. And of course, Ernie Hudson was there to help ground the whole thing.

I've been meaning to see Do the Right Thing for a long, long time now. The only one out of the very fine last 15 I haven't seen. Very fine except for Forrest Gump - I don't get the love for Forrest Gump.

No Western in my Western. :D
With a few exceptions, of course. Bad Girls being one of them.

I used to really dislike/hate Alien but the last couple of times I've watched it I thought it was ok. I think of it like a slasher now and that helps. :D I've not seen Akiri (I don't like anime, I just can't sit with it) and Apocolypse Now is great, but I don't know how much I like it. I know I liked it when I was young, but even when I made my 100 I sat and wondered how much do I really like it? Do I enjoy it? And I don't think I do now. Or, didn't then. That was a long time ago. I actually remember prefering the Redux verison, but I only saw that the once.

An odd near ending to your list for me. Casablanca is good (the script is really good) and I like it, but I've never gotten the love for it. Heat I like watching a lot more than I think it's good. Watchmen I saw once. It's not my kind of thing and, again, I really didn't see/get what was so great/good about it. I don't really remember much about it.
Now, bring on Charlie's Angels (seeing as you got Jaws way too low.) :D

I believe The Thing made an appearance earlier, but Christine is one that even Carpenter guys won't seem to fully commit to. The WATCHMEN acceptance is also much appreciated.

I stand corrected. I think Christine gets that treatment because it exists at such a remove from other Carpenters with its extensive approach to time (most of his movies take place over a week at most while this one happens over several months) that feels very different to his much more economical and compressed narratives.

I've never even thought about that. You're right. Folks always seem in love with his other more notable flicks (which there is nothing wrong with that), I felt like this one gets overlooked most times.
