Comedy Countdown Pool
Here's the place to promote your favorite comedies and get them noticed by other MoFos for the upcoming Comedy Countdown (https://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?t=65782).
Post your favorite comedies and give it your best shot, talk them up & promote them...Just flat out try and convince others that they are worth watching. Hopefully others will watch some of these comedies and then add them to their own ballots.
As a twist: I'm going to make this a Comedy Movie Pool, where I will link everyone's fav comedy films to the post where they talk about it.
*List as many comedies as you want, but...if you want more Top Promotions for your comedies then you'll have to watch one of the comedies listed on the 1st post and write a brief paragraph with your thoughts on the movie...then I'll link another comedy for you...watch a bunch of the comedies from the 1st post and I'll link another of yours for each one watched.

I highly recommend you watch one of my fav comedies, it's a indy film that's not well known but well worth watching: My Dinner With Jimi (2003) it's the bio-comedy about the 1960s rock band The Turtles and their experience after their smash hit So Happy Together. The movie is unique in that it is written by the lead singer of The Turtles Howard Kaylan. In one night they go to London on a promotional tour and meet the Beatles (what a hilarious scene that was!) and then Howard Kaylan has dinner with Jimi Hendrix (the best Hendrix actor I've seen). Yeah you should watch this!

So that's my one comedy that gets linked to the 2nd post, but I have a whole lot more comedy movies to push err I mean promote:p
Amelie (2001)
A very charming French comedy that transcends language, not slapstick, not silly, but fresh and impish like Amelie! Love this movie.
Some Like it Hot (1959) Billy Wilder directing with his flare in what is an intelligent screwball (sort of) comedy with Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis and someone called Marilyn Monroe.
Canadian Bacon (1995) Yeah I know it has a low 5.9 rating on IMDB but what they hell do they know about comedy! Directed and written by Michael Moore, yeah that Michael Moore...but this is an early work for him and it's more balanced, not preachy and very funny. Of course it's funny it has John Candy in it.
I'll think of some more later😁

FreewayI've not seen any of those but The Gumball Rally which I will now remember when I make my own ballot. I do have The Great Race saved to watch so I'll try and watch that real soon! And I'll read about the others too I think I might like them.
I don't know if this is too much of a shameless self-promotion, but last year I dedicated an episode of my podcast to comedy. My guest was stand-up comedian Steve Mazan, who was a writer for Ellen, and we had a great talk about his career and different comedies. In the end, we both shared our Top 5 comedies.
The Movie Loot 31 - The Comedy Loot (https://www.buzzsprout.com/850063/7900144-thief-s-monthly-movie-loot-31-the-comedy-loot-with-steve-mazan.mp3?download=true)
For those that don't want to listen, these are our Top 5, but we do mention and talk about a lot of other comedies, so it might be a good source of suggestions for some of you...
My Top 5
1. The Big Lebowski
2. Liar Liar
3. Spaceballs
4. Clerks
5. UHF
Steve's Top 5
1. Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery
2. Raising Arizona
3. Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby
4. The Blues Brothers
5. The Graduate
Great idea!

Re-watched an old favorite last night. It may not make my ballot, but still might influence others.
"My Name is Nobody" (1973) a fun western romp with Henry Fonda and Terrence Hill.
7/10
The Awful Truth (1937) - Possibly my favorite Screwball (and I wrote my final paper for History Of Film 1925-1950 on the death of the Screwball comedy so I've seen a few), romantic comedy, and Cary Grant movie (though Arsenic and Old Lace is right there). Irene Dunne is also absolutely excellent, a comedically gifted actress. This is a genuinely funny movie for all the right reasons.
Which reminds me...
Arsenic and Old Lace - This was my mother's favorite comedy and it has also been one of mine since she first made me watch it sometime back in the 1980s. This is also Grant at his comedic best but just a fun farce of a movie all around that belongs at or near the top of everyone's list of Best Comedies.

Two absolute masters at work.
The Lady Eve (Stanwyck's master performance more than balances Fonda's too-mopey dope)

And, somewhat controversially, It Happened One Night (which is also the first of the three films ever to win The Big Five at the Academy Awards).

Yeah, Christmas In Connecticut, to me, is one of those great Christmas movies that it doesn't have to be Christmastime to enjoy. It's just a good Screwball Comedy that takes place at Christmas.
Well, there are people who say it can't be a Screwball Comedy because the genre didn't exist when the film was made. Of course, there are many others who say that's because this film invented the Screwball Comedy. It's an interesting movie because it seems so quaint by our contemporary standards but at the time there had really been nothing quite like it.

These are actually some movies on the IMDB Comedy categories.
TCM plays a lot of comedies. Usually slapstick (not my thing) or black comedy, which would probably be on their great "Underground" series. On Saturday (10:15pm, ET), they'll playing "Arthur" on TCM. This is one of two movies I've seen with my mom, and I remember we both enjoying the audacity, the drunken laughter of this rich fella.. There's also a few movies in the next 48-72 hours like "The Dirty Dozen" (Cassavetes was funny in it) and "Cool Hand Luke", which had some funny scenes (most people like the eggs), but I loved the, "I wish you'd stop being so good to me, boss" line because it's well-written, it gets to the point, it reverses the sarcasm without being corny, and definitely gets under his skin.
Just a tip, but if someone sees that a comedy is going to be on TV in the near future (by your definition) post away... Maybe there's some who have a certain sense of humor but can't describe it. Maybe it makes one of our lists, maybe not, but the more commonality, the more chance we can have a conversation.
