Same as was done in previous tournaments of this type.....

Join in and drop out as you please
No set number of nominations, nominate on the fly
Max song duration: 10 minutes
No individual matches means no random or host 'fixing' the matches
Only one nomination per person per 'round'
Only those with songs nominated in any 'round' are eligible to vote; except the 'Final' where all those that have previously nominated a song in the month may vote should they wish

Every couple of days will be a new 'round' where any and all newly nominated songs are up against each other. As soon as voting starts for one 'round' nominations will be accepted for the next 'round'.

Players vote by ranking all the songs in that 'round' from 1 (their favourite) to n (their least favourite). Songs will be awarded points based on their positional ranking in each vote (number of points will depend on the number of songs contesting the 'round' - if 10 songs #1 song would get 10 points, #10 song would get 1 point).

The winning song from each 'round' (or songs in the case of a tie) goes through to the 'Final' at the end of the month.

No idea what's going on. But I can't see "song" + "August" without thinking of Nikos Papazoglou's devastating ode to his dead sister.

Join the gang - I never have any idea what's going on and I'm usually the one that starts these things :D

Seriously though it's just a little fun tournament where people nominate songs and then vote on which ones they like more or less and at the end of the month we somehow end up with a winning song. Welcome to join in if you fancy.

Nice song btw.

For those new to these tourneys - song links need to be in external format (otherwise the post for each round is just far too large/cumbersome). To make a song link external:
1. Copy the url of the link you want (note this should be from the address bar as it has to contain the full format address of 'youtube.com' and not 'youtu.be')
2. Type the text of the artist and song in a response ... i.e. Clive Dunn - Grandad
3. Highlight that text
4. In the list of optional actions at the top of the response box (where italics, bold, underline etc. is) click the picture of a globe with 2 links of a chain underneath it
5. In the box that comes up paste the url you copied earlier
6. Edit the "www" in the box to "m"
7. Click ok and it will wrap the HTML for the link around the text and that's it

You can verify it looks ok and that it works by previewing the post in the 'Go Advanced' editing option.

Please note that it is very much preferred that nobody actually nominates Clive Dunn - Grandad at any point. Thank you ;)

Each round is two days in duration, players can vote and nominate for the next round (if they want to) whenever they want within that period. I tend to try to manage things around 9am my time as I'm generally quite free then.

Anyone can skip a round (or more) whenever they wish (or need to 'cos ya know .... life) by not nominating for the next round and simply rejoin by nominating another song whenever convenient to themselves.

8. Taffy - I Love My Radio

10. The Tea Party - Heaven Coming Down

Taffy - I Love My Radio
- Goofy, fun music that I can't decide if I enjoy or hate with everything I have. Overstays its welcome a bit for sure.

Meat Beat Manifesto - Mindstream
- This drove me crazy in a bad way, five minutes is a long time for this track.

Gentlemans Pistols - Lady Teaser
- This is much more my speed than the first two. There is something here that's not entirely clicking with me, but this is easier listening to me than the first two. I'm not loving the vocals tho. There is something about the way he says "something that you're gonna find" that reminds me of Jack Black, who I like, but I don't really want a serious rock song to remind me of Jack Black.

The Tea Party - Heaven Coming Down
Not for me. Wicked stache and soul patch combo tho brother. I do wish I had the confidence to roll with something that scuzzy to be completely honest. I kept waiting for this guy to start performing street magic.

We've Only Just Begun - The Carpenters
- I love Todd Hayne's Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story. I don't guess I've ever listened to The Carpenters proper. This seemed like fine pop music, nice and produced well.

DMX - Ruff Ryder's Anthem
- My nom. I love me some DMX. Just feel good stuff. Maybe the best singalong rappers of all-time, just make sure you are alone when you do it.

A Perfect Day Elise (demo) - PJ Harvey
- I guess I should probably listen to PJ Harvey. Or maybe just the demos, because this has a great sound. According to RYM there is plenty of demo content to go through. Hell yeah.

Steve Wariner - You Can Dream Of Me
- Non-offensive, solid 90s country music that I won't actively go out of my way to listen to, but I don't get angry when I hear it.

Ennio Morricone - 'La Leggenda Del Pianista Sull Oceano'
- While I enjoy his western output more, I can deal with some smooth piano work.

The Marcus King Band - Goodbye Carolina
- I knew of Marcus King because he apparently runs in circles that intersect with circles I pay attention to, but I had never actually paid attention to his work. If I'm in convo with a Stapleton fan, I think I'll drop this name as someone they should check out.

The Marcus King Band - Goodbye Carolina
Not really my thing, but it does a good job of bridging a few styles without falling too hard into one or another.
A Perfect Day Elise (demo) - PJ Harvey
Gentlemans Pistols - Lady Teaser
It's like a hybrid of QotSA and Alice in Chains (using major harmonies?), and maybe something from 80s pop.
Taffy - I Love My Radio
WOW! Great, catchy chorus and outro. Fun stuff. Classic with just a touch of nostalgic cheese. I can't complain.
Ennio Morricone - 'La Leggenda Del Pianista Sull Oceano'
Steve Wariner - You Can Dream Of Me
Once you read this, you may never unhear it again: That opening guitar riff? Just add the lyrics, "Thank you for being a friend..." :D I mean that with love, btw. I can't help but make weird associations in things I hear.
DMX - Ruff Ryder's Anthem

Meat Beat Manifesto - Mindstream

Agreed with Cap Terror. Screw what everyone else posts. They... are not important. Only YOUR selection matters. And when I type "your" I mean mine. Because I'm the one typing here.

Also, be aware that Chyp lives on a completely different orbit, so his time zone is like.... *counts... carry the three... uh...* like 27.5 hours different. Pretty sure he can see the flag waving on the moon, most days =\

I've been doing these song tournaments for several years now, and I've gotten used to my songs coming in last on a lot of people's lists. I've learned that my taste in music is very different from most people around here, but if one or two people don't hate my noms each round, I consider that a win. :)

Plus, I get to hear a lot of music that I never would have heard without these tournaments, so that's a win too.

Taffy - I Love My Radio - A long forgotten song I just rediscovered a couple of weeks ago. I like it a lot, but I do acknowledge that the chorus does a lot of the lifting here.

Gentlemans Pistols - Lady Teaser - Has this (or something by this band) been nominated before? It feels familiar, but that could just be something about the sound of the band? Anyway, I liked this a lot.

A Perfect Day Elise (demo) - PJ Harvey - I like most of the PJ Harvey I've ever heard, but I never get into her enough to really know her stuff. It's been that way since the 90's when I first heard Mansize and 50ft Queenie (which are both brilliant btw) and I always like a dirty guitar sound.

We've Only Just Begun - The Carpenters - I think I like The Carpenters more than I do, but I do love most of the hits, and there are plenty of those, including this one.

DMX - Ruff Ryder's Anthem - This was OK and if I knew it I'm sure I'd be singing along. But I don't so I wasn't.

Meat Beat Manifesto - Mindstream - This is OK, but I do think that around 3 minutes was enough for me. There's a couple here that I already know and will finish above this, but atm I'm expecting this to finish mid table with me.

Ennio Morricone - 'La Leggenda Del Pianista Sull Oceano' - A lovely piece of music I'm simply not in the right mood for today. On another day this could be top 4.

The Tea Party - Heaven Coming Down - Heaven's not the only thing that's coming down by the sounds of it. I didn't hate it, but it became background music quickly for me.

The Marcus King Band - Goodbye Carolina - Not for me, but I did like the guitar.

Steve Wariner - You Can Dream Of Me - I get the feeling what he calls a dream, I'd call a nightmare.

I was joking with my comment  I have no issues with how things turn out, and like you, I appreciate the opportunity to listen/discover new stuff with these things. I'm at a point in my life right now where more often than not, I end up listening to the same things I was listening 20 years ago, instead of exploring new things.

9. Ennio Morricone - 'La Leggenda del Pianista Sull Oceano'

Just completed a second listen. Ranking aside, there's really nothing I hated. The backend of my list is all very, very close.

Some thoughts, from bottom to top...

DMX - "Ruff Ryders Anthem"
This is probably at the bottom only on the basis of me not being much of a rap/hip hop guy. I mean, I like some stuff like Eminem, but it's not a genre I go back to often. Still, I liked the rhythm and the riff, and the energy DMX put to it, even if the vocals seemed at times too unpolished.

Ennio Morricone - "La Leggenda del Pianista Sull Oceano'
It's certainly a lovely tune and I really like all the melodies, but much like rap/hip hop, instrumental and classical music is another "genre" I enjoy a lot, but that I don't really go often to.

Taffy - "I Love My Radio"
I'll admit that on my first listen, I laughed and thought "stupid song" But it's certainly an earworm. Very 80s, synth-heavy and peppy, almost to the point of parody, but it's fun.

Meat Beat Manifesto - "Mindstream"
This one started really strong for me. Liked the rhythm and the beat. I'm still beating my head because the singer's voice reminds me of someone that I just can't place, but whatever. Towards the second half of the song, it was feeling a bit repetitive, which put it down a couple of notches for me.

Steve Wariner - "You Can Dream of Me"
This is an inoffensive song. It's cliche, but it's not bad. I like the melodies and it was overall a pleasant listen.

PJ Harvey - "A Perfect Day Elise (demo)"
My wife is a huge fan of PJ Harvey, so I've heard my fair share of songs, even if for some reason, I don't go back often to her. Still, this has pretty much all the markings of her style and I love her voice. I dig it, even though I have slight issues with some of the sound effects she uses, and I think the song lacked a proper climax.

The Carpenters - "We've Only Just Begun"
This was a beautiful song. Even though I grew up in the 80s and 90s, at this point in my life, I find myself digging a lot of 70s stuff. This has a really catchy tune and the dual melodies are really great.

Gentlemans Pistol - "Lady Teaser"
This was definitely my jam. I liked the riff and the rhythm. The voice took a bit to get used to, but loved the music and the way the guitars sounded together.

The Marcus King Band - "Goodbye Carolina"
This was a clear favorite for me as soon as I heard it. Loved the voice, great music, and really dug the way the song builds up. I can see myself listen to this often, or even seeking more of their stuff.

The Tea Party - "Heaven Coming Down"
My choice, obviously. This is a band that an Internet friend recommended to me back in the 90s and this quickly turned into my favorite song of them. Love the singer's grave voice, the melodic guitars and the beat of the drums. It's a song that feels very emotional and haunting. Love it.

I also listen to mostly the same music that I've been listening to for years, but that's because most of the music that I like isn't played on the radio in my area. We don't have any country music radio stations anymore, and most of the current country music that I've been able to find is very different from the kind of country music that I grew up listening to. And the radio station's version of "easy listening" music on the radio isn't what I would consider "easy listening" music.

Yay! My nomination won!

It's a good thing I didn't pick that Clive Dunn song Chypmunk hates.Congrats! That Carpenters song was a nice mood-lifter for me on Monday.

"Repetitive" seems to be a common criticism of my song. A lot of my favorite songs have a decent bit of repetition now that I think about it, but I'll try to keep it to a minimum if that's not this gang's cup of tea. Repetition puts me in a state of blissful euphoria when it's done well, which I think Mindstream does.

Motorhead & Girlschool - Please Don't Touch - An old favourite which, at first look at this list, will end up on top of my list.

Sons of Raphael - Yeah Yeah Yeah - My last choice was long forgotten whereas this is about as new as I know. Only heard it about a month or so ago. They're a band very much with their own thing going but I just instantly fell for this song the moment I heard it.

Elle King - Good Thing Gone - I couldn't get into this to start with. I don't know why, it just wasn't working for me. But it won me around after a couple of minutes. Makes me think of Janis.

MGMT - Time to Pretend - Straight into this one. No idea if it'll grow or die with repeated listens (it does feel like it'll be one of the other) but for now I like it.

The Adults - Nothing To Lose - I like this. It's a good start.

Active Child - Hanging On - I liked this a lot more before the vocals. I think as an instrumental piece I'd prefer it.

Lorde - Green Light - This is pretty good. Really like the chorus.

YG - My N*gga - It's a nice groove, but that's all. Really repetative (which isn't a bad thing per se) but when it's just one word, it can be troublesome.

El Gran Combo - El Caballo Pelotero - I like this kind of thing when it starts, but am often ready for it to stop by the end. No different here.

Lorde - Tennis Court - Two Lorde song on this list. I've not listened to her before so this is all new to me. I prefer the other one.

Neil Diamond - In Ensenada - I quite like Neil Diamond because my mum liked him so I heard him in the 70's, early 80's. I find his voice familiar and comforting but this isn't one that I really like.

Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult - A Beseechment Twofold - As is often the case with this kind of track, I like the guitar and drums but the vocal kills it for me. If I could just get past that there's a whole new genre open to me. :(

I thought your nomination was pretty good. I generally like repetition if I enjoy the tune or lyric which is being repeated, and I liked the tune of your song, so I enjoyed your song a decent bit. My nomination for this round has some repetition as well. I suppose that might turn some people off, but I'll see how it goes.

Nah, you have to nominate a song in the current round before you rank anything. Have you participated in one of these monthly Chypmunk runs? I think it's a better format than the old song vs song style tournaments. People nominate their tune, then everybody listens to them and ranks top to bottom and each round produces a winner that advances to the final. At the end of the month, all the finalists go up against each other to determine the overall winner of the month.

9. Active Child - Hanging On
10. Sons of Raphael - Yeah Yeah Yeah
11. Neil Diamond - In Ensenada

Other than my pick, there were a couple of these songs that I had heard before (MGMT's and Lorde), but I gave the lot two rounds of listening today anyway. Once again, had issues with some songs but nothing I really hated.

EDIT: Worth noting that I have "Nothing to Lose" stuck in my head right now.

EDIT #2: Give me until tomorrow to pick something for Round 3.

EDIT #3: Forgot to add DNS!!

I listened to the Sons of Raphael debut album off the strength of "Yeah Yeah Yeah", which I think is great, but the album was pretty disappointing. I did listen to it on a walk outside, so maybe some outside noise and paying attention to the scenery and other things could have distracted me some. Even under these conditions "Yeah Yeah Yeah" stood out as being the best track on the album by far.

Oh man, I'm sorry! I did listen to it, TWICE! Had it in my mind when I was assembling the list and for some reason, just missed it. Just fixed my ballot. Not sure if that would change anything, or does it, Chypmunk?

Anyway, I kinda liked it. I'm primarily a rock guy, even if I lean more towards progressive, or 70s/80s stuff. Anyway, I'm always torn as far as "black metal" or "death metal" goes because I really don't care about the growling or screeching voices, but I really like the music, fast guitar riffs, thumping drum beats, etc.

This is trippy. I'm curious if these samples are programmed or if someone is playing an electronic drum kick triggering them. Whatever, it's different and pretty cool.

Azealia Banks - 212 FT. Lazy Jay - Only discovered this song (and artist) about 6 months ago. No matter how well or badly it does, it's already a point better off than I thought it'd be because it managed not to be last on gbg's list, which I was confident it would be. :D Less of a surprise was seeing that Cap liked it, but I was pleased with how much.

Fields of the Nephilim - Preacher Man - Yeah, I'm going for this. So long as the vocal doesn't get any more 'grunt' I think it'll do well with me.

Anjali - Kali Came - Quite liked this. A bit like an acoustic Portishead vibe.

Aretha Franklin - Chain of Fools - A classic.

Placebo - Running Up that Hill - I like Placebo and this is a good cover.

The Beach Boys - Don't Worry Baby - It's a nice song, but not one of my favourites of theirs.

Squarepusher - Red Hot Car - I'm guessing this is pretty new, but it sounds quite late 90's/early 00's to me. Like The Artful Dodger and acts like that?

Danny Kaye - Lullaby In Ragtime - Not really my thing, but not annoying or anything. Just kind of there. Considering how I feel today, that's not a bad thing. Actually, by the end, I was starting to wish it'd finish, so it's lost a place. :D

Mother Mother - Oh Ana - Quirky and I like it, but I'm not well today and even at 2 minutes it's starting to annoy me.

Sparks - The Final Derriere - Meh. Not really working for me today. I think it's doing exactly what it's trying to, I just wish it wasn't.

1. 2Pac – Hit ‘Em Up
- Best rap song of the 90s… maybe. It’s possibly the meanest.
2. Icecross – Nightmare
- I was very into this. Downloaded the album immediately. I plan on listening to it before week’s end.
3. Pony Bradshaw – Dope Mountain
- Hillbilly humanity
4. Chuck Berry – Almost Grown
- Gotta love Chuck Berry… even though he stole his sound
5. Jack White – Love Is Blindness
- Some good things, some things I’m cold on.
6. Wade Hayes – What I Meant to Say
- Very much of its era. Not my favorite era of country music, but I still have somewhat of an affinity for it. 3:28 felt a little long.
7. Joan Baez – Rejoice in the Sun
- This is alright.
8. U2 – Desire
- This round wasn’t my favorite round.
9. Le Cassette – You Are You Are
- This was probably fine, but it wasn’t holding my attention. I got distracted a little bit.
10. Unheilig – Zwischen Licht Und Schatten
- Was digging it much more as a piano piece before the vocals kicked in. I don’t understand German, so I can only judge it based on how much I like the way it sounds. Which isn’t a whole lot, sadly.
11. Chris Cornell – Follow My Way
- I didn’t care for this, but it kept going and going.

Bit early in the morning here for me to be using the brain in any way, shape or form but I think it'll be 14 in total and then the Grand Final. Might be one less if I've miscounted, certainly won't be any more.

U2 - Desire - My theme for the last contest was Songs I love by artists I don't. I missed waaay too many rounds and so didn't get through all the choices I'd brought together, so I thought I'd burn a few of them in this one.

Le Cassette - You Are You Are - Oh, I'm liking this. Not heard it before. I'm assuming this is neo-80's rather than the real thing? After getting My Hot Red Car wrong I'm not as confident.

Icecross - Nightmare - I'm digging this. If it keeps it up it'll end up high.

Jack White - Love Is Blindness - Very reminiscent of the late 60's. Liked it.

Pony Bradshaw - Dope Mountain - As some/most of you know, I don't watch the videos, but obviously I have to start the song and that cover made my heart sink. :D Not actually as bad as I feared. In fact it grew on me a little.

Unheilig - Zwischen Licht Und Schatten - I quite like this. It's kind of just there, but that's ok for me today.

Chris Cornell - Follow My Way - This remind me very much of something else but I'll be darned if I can remember what the bloody hell it is. Anyway, it's Ok. I should probably listen to it again because I spent most of this listen trying to remember what it reminded me of. :D

Joan Baez - Rejoice in the Sun - Hellllloooo hippy crap. But it is quite nice and, thankfully, not too long.

Chuck Berry - Almost Grown - Like much 50's stuff it's ok but goes on too long dispite not hitting the 3 (3 1/2) minute mark.

Wade Hayes - What I Meant to Say - It's a shame he didn't not sing it. But it's not going to be last because it's not a call out.

2Pac - Hit 'Em Up - Sounds like someone would want to shut him up? Oh, they did.

I found it by searching on the #80s hashtag on SoundCloud. It's one of the best finds on that website I've made.
I love the vocals, which have kind of a Michael Hutchence vibe. Their songs Electric Paradise and their cover of Cyndi Lauper's Time After Time are also worth checking out.

Chris Cornell - Follow My Way
Any time a song from Cornell's Euphoria Morning (well, anything from Cornell works), I have to comment. This album kinda blew my mind on release and felt like a soundtrack to life. IMO, there is not a weak track on this album, but for some ("Follow My Way" may, unfortunately be one) that needs to be heard in the context of its release date to appreciate. I mean coming from Soundgarden, this was pretty high contrast in tone and texture. While some of the sounds may feel dated today, you can't really ignore this as a starting point for "Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart". I've bought this album (CD) a handful of times just to give it away to people hoping that they might love it as much as I did. As much as I still do. While I don't listen to this nearly as much as I should, I will, occasionally, spool up "Sweet Euphoria", "When I'm Down" (OMG the vocals in that!) and "Steel Rain". The latter of which highlights a mind-bending guitar solo by co-producer and guitarist, Alain Johannes. If nothing else, I hope you all at least skip to that clip and check it out too.

U2 - Desire
Can't go wrong with U2. This MIGHT have been my first experience with them. I need to go back through their stuff to be sure. I admit I got sidetracked with Pop. Still a great song after so long.

Jack White - Love Is Blindness
I love this song, but I'm afraid respect dictates that U2 goes first, considering this was their cover. Funny U2 was nominated the same round! :D

We had another MoFo a couple of years ago that was a big classical guy. He would always put classical tunes in the tournaments. At that point I decided, either I always put them in first, as there is an objective argument as to why they are always superior to something like Bananarama or Metallica, or I just go by how they struck my fancy at that particular moment. Obviously, I had to go with the latter.

1. Ludwig van Beethoven - Violin Sonata No. 6, I. Allegro
- I don’t really know anything about music, so I won’t pretend to understand any arguments that favor classical music over popular music. But I do like the way a lot violin and piano music sound. Beethoven wrote a bunch of good violin and piano pieces it seems. I can see this putting some others off. It’s classical and it’s kinda long. Sorry to everybody who feels like this was a chore to sit through. I can tell it’s long, because this is the most of I written for any of the tracks.
2. The Great Pretender - The Platters
- I love this song.
3. Edith Piaf - Padam, padam
- Bruits français stupides faisant toutes sortes de sons
4. Manic Street Preachers - You Love Us
- I could see these guys getting annoying pretty quickly. I don’t know if I’ve ever heard any of their songs before, but I must have. I wouldn’t be opposed to further investigation, but consider me still skeptical.
5. Igorrr- Downgrade Desert
- Interesting stuff. I don’t think I love it, but I prefer it to a lot of the other stuff I listened to in this round.
6. Electrelane - Film Music
- If this is a weak round, this will do well. If this is a strong round, this will not do well. I listened to this first, so you will know how I feel about the round when you get here.
7. Ronnie Milsap – Inside
- Ronnie’s style of country is a little soft for my taste, plus I’m not a fan of this era of country’s prevalent production and musical style.
8. Barbra Streisand - Guilty ft. Barry Gibb
- I expected to absolutely hate this. I don’t. Barry Gibb was pretty terrible, but Streisand wasn’t THAT bad. Not a good song, really, but it exceeded expectations. I’m probably putting this too high. Not a hot round for me so far.
9. Dark Tranquillity - Monochromatic Stains
- Not great or anything, but not something I outright have any passionate feelings about. I just don’t like this style of metal that much I don’t think.
10. Lake of Tears - Demon You / Lily Anne
- Not something I’ll be listening to again by choice. Could be worse.
11. Chris Cornell - Steel Rain
- I don’t really need to listen to Chris Cornell anymore, but will continue to accept these nominations as penance for the sins I don’t know I have committed.
12. Keram - Mary Magdalene
- Sounded like contemporary Christian music for about five minutes, which is five minutes too long to listen to contemporary Christian music. The last minute or so seemed fine.
13. Poets of the Fall - Carnival of Rust
- Not my thing.

Round 5

1. Igorrr - Downgrade Desert
(The influx of interesting YouTube suggestions is one of my favorite aspects of these song tournaments, and this is one such suggestion, likely a result of Swan's Squarepusher nomination a couple rounds ago. Been listening to a lot of Igorrr the past couple days, and this is the most normal, accessible track I've heard so far from the highly experimental, wildly disparate mix of genres he (they?) masterfully orchestrate. Love how this song builds and the drumming is next level.)

2. Electrelane - Film Music
(Eerie and paranoid. The Doors meets Twilight Zone. Makes me feel like I'm driving through a long dark tunnel after a 3-day meth bender, constantly checking the rearview for imagined pursuers. A typical Wednesday evening, in other words.)

3. The Platters - The Great Pretender
("Laughin' and gay like a clown!?!?!?!" Has this motherf**ker put a spy cam in my bedroom? Plenty of straight clowns enjoy being pegged from behind as well, you judgmental large flat dishes!)

4. Edith Piaf - Padam, Padam
(Contrary to popular belief, Edith Piaf did not in fact invent rice pilaf.)

5. Lake of Tears - Demon You / Lily Anne
(Thought I was going to really dig this when it first kicked in, but sonically it just sorta flatlined. Needed a little more variance. Unremarkable but solid. Lily Anne is a pretty name. Might name my next miscarriage that.)

6. Dark Tranquility - Monochromatic Stains
(A bit monochromatic in sound as well, at least when it comes to this brand of metal. However, I appreciate the heaviness and I've come to really love this vocal style.)

7. Manic Street Preachers - You Love Us
(Great band name. Average song.)

8. Barbra Streisand - Guilty ft. Barry Gibb
(Not the rectal prolapse I expected. Being a major change of pace from the other early noms is currently working in its favor.)

9. Poets of the Fall - Carnival of Rust
(Recently played Alan Wake -- really fun with one of the most intriguing stories I've encountered in a video game -- and the soundtrack features a couple songs from Poets of the Fall that I really dug within that context. This one didn't stand out to me, though. Might've fared better in A Song for October.)

10. Chris Cornell - Steel Rain
(He obviously has a great and distinctive voice, even if it sounds to me like he's trying to pass a really large bowel movement most of the time. With the exception of a few Soundgarden tracks, I'm just not a fan.)

11. Ronnie Milsap - Inside
(What jiraffejustin said.)

12. Beethoven - Violin Sonata No. 6, I. Allegro
(When it comes to famous Beethovens, I prefer the St. Bernard. Also feel like I could've watched all eight films in the franchise in the amount of time it took this to finish.)

13. Keram - Mary Magdalene
(If elevator music tried to rebel against its elevator parents by joining an elevator rock band.)

still though. i am fearful of what this could mean. like maybe the universe is finally giving me something here because it knows something is about to go down in the land of yn. i been shouting(box) some trippy coincidentals lately. those meteor showers are approaching. hmmmmmm.

anyway. i'll have my round up within 24 hours and before the cutoff.

Manic Street Preachers - You Love Us - I really don't like the MSP. Really. But I do like this song. Maybe it's just the rockstar of it all?

Ludwig van Beethoven - Violin Sonata No. 6, I. Allegro - Mood is all important when it comes to how I rate these songs and classics usually do well with me when I need something calm or soothing or there's been too much of one kind of music. Today is a good day for this.

The Great Pretender - The Platters - It's a great song. I do prefer Freddie's version, but let's not quibble. It's great regardless.

Lake of Tears - Demon You / Lily Anne - I prefered this, but it was never going anywhere. It was there, then it ended. Today that's not a bad thing.

Edith Piaf - Padam, padam - I don't really get this kind of thing, but it worked for me today. I'm pleased and curious as to why. :D

Keram - Mary Magdalene - This was OK but fell into background for much of it. Nice guitar solo though.

Chris Cornell - Steel Rain - It's ok but not enough of any one thing to really push forwards.

Electrelane - Film Music - I quite liked this but it's a bit cacophonic (if that's a word) for my current mood. Were it familiar I'm sure I'd have enjoyed it more.

Poets of the Fall - Carnival of Rust - Mellow but meh. Someone mentioned video game music and this fits right in with that.

Igorrr- Downgrade Desert - Another victim to my inability to love the vocal. :(

Ronnie Milsap - Inside - It's not for me, but today I don't think it's going to be last. I don't know if that's just my mood or if the onslaught of this stuff I have to listen to in these tournaments is having an effect. :D

Dark Tranquillity - Monochromatic Stains - Same problem as usual for me with this genre.

Barbra Streisand - Guilty ft. Barry Gibb - I like The Bee Gees when it's Disco. I only like a couple of Babs songs, this won't do well.

Electrelane - Film Music
Nothing to complain about. Pretty nice stuff.

Chris Cornell - Steel Rain
Probably the weaker song from the album (IMO), but after commenting on the solo I wanted to post it here to FORCE you folks to have a listen ;) but I have always enjoyed Cornell's lyrical styling. This one is perhaps one of my favorite lyrics.

Manic Street Preachers - You Love Us

Barbra Streisand - Guilty ft. Barry Gibb
Nice snare intro ;) I never knew this was Streisand! Pretty disco groovy. Not sure Gibb helps, but those classic harmonies later are still tight.

Edith Piaf - Padam, padam

The Great Pretender - The Platters
Good, safe classic. You left me to dream all alone.

Ronnie Milsap - Inside

Dark Tranquillity - Monochromatic Stains
Maybe I should have listened to this first, before Lake of Tears and Poets of the Fall. I think those two set a pace that this, following them, jumped ahead in contrast. :D

Lake of Tears - Demon You / Lily Anne
Oh I would have loved this in the 90s!! Pretty good sound and the voice weirdly fits with the mellow'ish mood given the style.

Keram - Mary Magdalene

Igorrr- Downgrade Desert

Poets of the Fall - Carnival of Rust
Pretty good too, just not my thing. It may be the lyrics? I'm not sure. The sound is good and well mixed. The vocals and melody are nice.

Ludwig van Beethoven - Violin Sonata No. 6, I. Allegro

In keeping with a very loose theme, I'm posting a third nom from the Big Little Lies soundtrack. Pretty good stuff all around. R6: Roxy Music - Love Is the Drug (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NE49NdNnBxA)

Just so you know how strong AND weird that last round was, I spent all day at work with both "The Great Pretender" and "Inside" stuck in my head, songs that I had at #5 and #10! and now, I've been humming "Lake of Tears", which I had at #12, for about an hour or so.

Round 5

5. Lake of Tears - Demon You / Lily Anne
(Thought I was going to really dig this when it first kicked in, but sonically it just sorta flatlined. Needed a little more variance. Unremarkable but solid. Lily Anne is a pretty name. Might name my next miscarriage that.)

That's a criticism I can agree with. It's kind of a common issue with the band, unfortunately.

Amorphis was my gateway band into Scandinavian heavy metal and I still listen to them regularly, so expect a higher ranking from me, if it's any consolation.

Weird. Me too!

Actually, I was introduced to the band and the genre as a whole by a long gone MoFo, Wintertriangles. If I recall, Eclipse was the album he first recommended, as it was around that time, or maybe at the time, Silent Waters had just come out.

While my classmates were listening to 311, Green Day and Dave Matthews Band, I was the "cool" kid playing the Tales from the Thousand Lakes and Elegy albums.

But anyway, they're one of the most consistently good bands in the genre. I haven't heard a bad album or maybe even song from them. Those two albums and either Skyforger, Circle or Silent Waters are probably my favorites.

Round 59.
Might've fared better in A Song for October.) I love the Alan Wake games as well and that's also how I discovered the band. They've been one of my favorites ever since. I was lucky enough to see them live at a local festival. I figured I'd go with their most popular song and a ballad since my choices have been fast and hard lately.

Their Alan Wake songs go under the band name Old Gods of Asgard if anyone else wants to check them out.

I'll stop spamming the thread by talking about myself now. :D

1 Rainbow - Stargazer - Again I can't put my tune first...
2 Amorphis - My Kantele - Seminal folk metal song from the land of a thousand lakes.
3 Twin Tribes - Shadows - Shades of The Cure. Is this style seeing a resurgence?
4 Roxy Music - Love Is the Drug - Classic 80s tune.
5 Eminem - Book of Rhymes - Just NASTY skills on display here.
6 Kanye West - Flashing Lights - Smooth stuff
7 Tate McRae - you broke me first - I am too much of a sucker for dream pop to dislike this.
8 Michael Franti & Spearhead - Say Hey I Love You - Pretty good
9 Morphine - Buena - I had a friend that was a massive Morphine fan back in the 90s. I can
see the appeal, but just not my thing.
10 Tom Waits - Tango Till They're Sore - Waits' atonal tinkering usually sends me running,
but his voice keeps this from coming in last.
11 Jo-El Sonnier - Tear-Stained Letter - Not bad
12 Creedence Clearwater Revival - Fortunate Son - Was never a fan
13 Body Count - KKK Bitch - Not my favorite Iced T

Big fan of Silent Waters and Skyforger, and I agree on not having a bad record. I tend to gravitate to their stuff with Tomi, more-so than the early stuff. And I like the Magic and Mayhem re-recordings of their early stuff. That said, I like their early stuff also, and have Elegy on vinyl. Big fan of Under the Red Cloud, as well. Saw them live a couple of years ago, and they were stellar.
