This started with movies, too.. Someone else posted just one year, random year, and I thought (after responding) "Might as well paste it on here", but then a few days ago, someone picked 1974. Maybe I'll turn back after 1979, and hit 1972 :)

Oh damn "Here Come The Warm Jets" came out in 73 not 74. I have brought great shame upon the Music and Film online community.

Missed "Thrust" too. Love that one.

The End by Nico drove me around the bend and I sold it. I think its her voice sometimes.

Proabbaly really need that "Veedon Fleece" lp but there are never reasoably priced copies around

Wiki is listing its release as January 1974, so I'm wrong here.

There's probably a bunch of jazz that I'm missing, since I don't have a handy resource for release dates. Already, I know I missed a few:

Chapter Three - Gato Barbieri
Mysterious Traveller - Weather Report
Virgin Land - Airto Moriera
Sorcery - Jack DeJohnette

And there are others from 1974 coming to mind:

Court and Spark - Joni Mitchell
Grievous Angel - Gram Parsons
Machine Gun - Commodores
Nightbirds - Labelle
Unrest - Henry Cow
I Want to See the Bright Lights - Richard and Linda Thompson
Information Inspiration - Shuggie Otis
Slow Dancer - Boz Scaggs
Rags to Rufus - Rufus

Yeah, that's one that never comes into my local record store. I've pestered the guy there for years about it. It's the only Van from his classic run that I don't have on vinyl. Well, except Tupelo Honey because I don't really care much for that one.

Oh yeah I have these 2, the Commodores one seems incredibly underrated. It aint no Lionel Richie Dancing on the Ceiling BS!

Astral Weeks - bought this on CD but it sounded so damn shrill and horrid. His voice was just piercingly terrible. Replaced it with a CASSETTE copy which sounds awesome.
His Band And The Street Choir: need
Moondance: also had on cd but it sounded so bad it got chucked.
Tupelo Honey: think I have 2 copies of this on LP
Saint Dominic's Preview - need
Veedon Fleece - need

Yeah, early Commodores were much more collaborative, and Richie would only emerge as the band's 'hitmaker' later in the decade.

I remember the initial CD version of Weeks which suffered from the thin mastering of 1st gen CDs. Both of these have been remastered in recent years.

Of the others, I like his debut, which is probably best, at this point, to pick up as The Bang Masters, with great tracks like "TB Sheets" and "He Ain't Give You None" and some rarities like "Joe Harper Saturday Morning" and "The Back Room".

Hard Nose The Highway is one you can find cheap, and it's not great, but I like it better than some fans do. Not everything works on it, but it's not as samey and predictable as Tupelo. I've been talking to crumbsroom recently about Common One, which is another really overlooked gem.

9. Tangerine Dream - Phaedra (1974)Had this LP but just lost patience with it, really wanted it to be my thing but it went so ambient it just seemed to disappear into the ether. Which was probably the point of it but still...
Hawkwind Hall of the Mountain GrillOh hell yes. Have the cassette of this. Great burnout music.

Tupelo Honey was the first Morrison I ever found on vinyl, so I have a soft spot for it, even if some of it is probably pretty mild stuff. Still, Straight to Your Heart Like a Cannonball will always be on my short list favs of his.

Spooky Lady's Sideshow by Kris Kristofferson deserves some love too. Kris has some tremendously well-written tunes on this LP and they are about as grim as you'd expect from him. "Ever since the first I had, the worst I had was good" is an awesome line.

"Cause nightmares are somebody's daydreams
Daydreams are somebody's lies.
Lies ain't no harder than telling the truth.
Truth is the perfect disguise"

It's amazing how deep that "first consciousness" impacts for records. I have so many bands where my favourite LP of theirs is "what, that one?"
