I got some money for Christmas and I am thinking of purchasing a Tivo. I have been doing my research, and it looks like a really good deal. Any Tivo users in here that have thoughts about it?

It is basically a device (a computer with a hard disk) that can download TV schedules over the satelite. You can then look at the TV guide and schedule which things you want to record. You can search based on actor, director, TV show or movie name.

I can tell it to record: Every Dallas Mavericks game
Only new episodes of Still Standing
Every Jack Nicholson movie
All episodes, including repeats, of CSIWhile you are watching live TV, it records up to 30 minutes. You can tell it to rewind up to 30 minutes ago. You can pause it, and it will record up to 30 minutes from that point.

It is the coolest device I have ever gotten for TV.

Read more at their site: http://www.tivo.com/1.0.asp

Read about upgrading the hard disk so that you can record more hours: http://www.weaknees.com/

blast from the past! i’m reviving this 20 year old thread to geek out bout my setup.

first photo you can see in the bottom left a white box (that’s my TiVo Bolt) being fed by the antenna in the window. this is connected to the internet via an Airport Extreme that is daisy chaining off my Calix router via wifi.

in the second photo, you can see a TiVo Mini Vox that is wired into my Calix router, which lets it access the live TV via the antenna and any recorded shows on the Bolt.

i just gotta make everything neat in the back room now, and i’m also gonna get an additional Calix router from my ISP. that’ll replace the Airport Extreme.

gotta say, i’m super happy with myself. lol
