Finally, after one heck of a offseason (Astros cheating Scandal, Covid postpones season) a crazy, shortened regular season, and an even crazier Playoffs....we have finally come to the World Series. A series we weren’t even sure would happen months ago.
The Dodgers Vs Rays.
Who do you have? Will The Dodgers shake free from the disappointments of their last two Series appearances Losses (one forever tainted due to the previously mentioned cheating Scandal) and finally deliver on the grand stage? Or will Tampa Bay pull a Miami Marlins upset (1997 or 2003. Pick one. They’re both applicable) and Join the Lightning as Champions in a city that has been starved for them?

I’m going with Dodgers in 6. Both there is something nagging at me about the Rays and their pitching staff.
Either way...we deserve this.
Sit back. Enjoy the ride. And rub it in Houston’s face.

Really don't care who wins but if Tampa does win I bet Zunino is a big part of it. Just another Mariner castaway doing nice things for another organization. Sigh...

I didn't even know who was playing until I saw this thread.

Disappointed to see Atlanta couldn't finish the Dodgers off, so now they have a ton of momentum going into the series. Tampa Bay almost choked themselves, so I think they have to win Game 1 to have a shot in the series.

Dodgers win on paper, but they have been here with superior teams before....

Got the same thing going on over here with both Glasnow and Morton and the Pirates.

Anyway, I like both teams for different reasons so I'm just rooting for a fun, good series, that one team wins rather than loses. Mostly pulling for Kershaw, though.

Hopefully Atlanta can learn from it and go into next year even more determined. They’ll be a favorite to make the World Series.

Glasnow vs Kershaw for game 1.
Rooting for Kershaw, because he’s had it kind of rough lately with his back and all. Plus he wants to put his last few World Series starts behind him, I’m sure.

That's the second time I've heard someone predict the Dodgers winning in 6, I dont like it, but feel it likely :( I'd love to be all Rah! Rah! Go Ray's, blah blah, but feel like we simply dont have the depth necessary. The Dodgers pitching is way stronger than the Yankees, and Houstons without Verlander, and their power isn't streaky like ours. If we win it will be an upset, and imo a big one. God I hope we win, and if we do will feel happily shocked.

I wouldn’t mind a Rays win as well. If it wasn’t against the Dodgers, who I feel deserve one as well, I’d be rooting for The Rays.

They're an historically good team, so even losing in six would be pretty solid, for anyone, let alone this overachieving (which I mean in a very nice way!) Rays team.

The real bummer is, if the Dodgers do win, they won't get the credit they should since it was a weird season. Even though they'll get as much credit as any team could this year, since it feels more legitimate when one of the clear favorites wins in the "weird" year than it would if someone really unexpected does.

Eh, I don’t know about that. Maybe if it was a surprise team, like Milwaukee, Cincy or Miami, but the Dodgers have been a perennial favorite for years now that it wasn’t a question of “if” they would win, but “when”. I don’t think the shortened season will, or should, diminish that.

Bottom of the 4th
2-1 Dodgers.
Rays with a man on second.
Dodgers will probably go the pen soon.

Rays with a crushing win.

And that's why they play the games on the actual field. Been hearing and seeing an awful lot of praise for a team that hasn't won a damn thing. Maybe the Dodgers still win this thing, but that was a major shift last night.

Also: For all you purists out there. Are ya getting closer, just a little bit closer to saying goodbye to the umpires? Can't you see they are holding the game that you love back in the 19th century? Why not make the game a little more modern so we don't have B.S. calls at home plate during the world series. Hmm?

Wyldesyde19
10-25-20, 01:26 PM
How about the called out at second when Muncy was pulled off by the falling second baseman at the top of the fifth?

Powdered Water
10-25-20, 03:51 PM
It's 2020. We're still arguing about balls and strikes and missed calls by umpires that can be easily seen on video. It has a major impact on the game. Maybe when the TV ratings drop below soccer they'll get serious about some changes. Maybe.

Well, sure, because the regular season is simply a better way to determine which team is the best. They play shorter series' for drama and out of logistical necessity. That's true of all sports, but with baseball the divide between the two is a lot sillier than most. Play 162 games in a normal year, but you're out if you happen to go 2-3 in the LDS. Oy.

They also probably should have won something (not this exact team, but the Dodgers of this era) but, ya' know, Houston cheated. And still barely won. So I kinda wanna pull for them for that reason alone.

Powdered Water
10-25-20, 10:42 PM
So the Dodgers are probably almost definitely better than Tampa because they got cheated out of a world series? I dont buy that. We can argue all day about whether Houston cheated and whether the Dodgers are way better that Tampa but I bet we can both agree that Kershaw probably better win tonight.

Wyldesyde19

Dodgers will look like the Baseball equivalent of the early 1990’s Buffalo Bills if they fail here. Kershaw not looking great, and I’m starting to believe he can’t deliver on short rest in the World Series.

Yeah, I might be exaggerating a bit, 6 strikeouts isn’t bad. Few walks and a few too many hits early on, but yeah. Not as bad as I had thought.

Nah, that was in response to you saying they "didn't win anything yet." It wasn't clear whether you were talking about the Dodgers (this general group of players) or the 2020 Dodgers. Which is why I included this bit:

(not this exact team, but the Dodgers of this era)

The Dodgers are better than Tampa because they scored way more runs and allowed way fewer. But better teams can and do lose in short series' all the time.

We can argue all day about whether Houston cheated and whether the Dodgers are way better that Tampa but I bet we can both agree that Kershaw probably better win tonight.
Indeed. And I'm very happy for him that he did! Guy gets a bum rap.

Game 6. Was told before the series by two different people Dodgers will win it in 6, and here we are. I'm not just scared but dread scared. I hope the Ray's dig in deep because the reality is they can win this series, and not just on flukes and errors. They beat some of the best teams in baseball, and are healthy. I just hope we give it 100% these next two games and if that's not good enough then So Be It. Just give 100 is all I ask.

Congrats to the Dodgers, special congrats to Clayton Kershaw, who finally gets to chase one of those goofy small sample size playoff narratives.

Great year to the Rays, who are a genuinely good (and super fun) team. Case in point:

Probably, but Cash's thing about wanting to a void a third time through the lineup is legit, in a general sense. Huge drop off there. That said, when the next three hitters are 0-for-6 with six Ks against your guy, I think you have to consider that general principle sufficiently counteracted.

Snell was definitely pulled too early....his pitch count was still low and didn't show signs of slipping by just giving up a single. Should have at least kept him in there to try and get out of the inning.

Re: Dodgers. Yeah, that's the tough question: they were dominant, but how much of that would have held up over a full season? It's hard to say. But over the games they did play, they were insanely good:

https://twitter.com/jazayerli/status/1321297225318805505
I'm pretty bummed they were robbed of a chance to put up historic numbers over a full season. Now we'll never know for sure just how good this team was or would have been. They've been so good the last few years, though, that if they're similarly great next year I suspect this one'll mostly just get folded into the normal years in memory. I guess we'll see.

They stand a great chance to repeat, but Atlanta and San Diego are quickly improving as well.
Of course, I thought the Cubs were also going to win at least 1 more WS and look what happened there.

We were beat by the better team. They were the only team that had a better record than ours this season too. Imagine that, Tampa is the 2nd or 3rd lowest payroll in all of baseball and had the second best record in all of baseball. I have no sour grapes, but baby you better believe if we were facing the Braves instead we would have won the whole thing.

Congratulations to the Dodgers, and to Mark F. Just promise me that if you ever get to the world series again and are facing Boston or New York to sweep them outright.
