Cranberry sauce, I can't let it go!
If someone invented the better berry by gene manipulation and that made cranberry sauce taste better in general, would you eat it?
Aren't the new line of glowing-fish enough for you Sunny? (not to mention the new lines being prepared for aquafarming - if they escape like previous breeds of normally-manipulated fish have, they're liable to do even more damage to wild fish stocks than these previous wee "monsters" :p )
Latest on GM crops: loads of anecdotal evidence that animals don't like eating them. They prefer "organic" over standard "intensively" farmed/sprayed crops as it is - but both wild and domestic animals avoid eating GM crops full stop.
Avoid eating them you little beastie.

There are glowing fish found in nature, why not add a rainbow of colored fishes to it? You know animals are disappearing off the face of the Earth at an astounding rate. We have to replace them with something. Why not animals of our choosing and making?
The cranberry is the perfect candidate for GM. A nastier tasting berry I have not met.
Well, one obvious reason is coz bright-colourings and luminoscity are often used as a sign of toxicity to deter predators, in mating rituals, and to draw in more-easily-hypnotist prey. If the new varients survive undeservedly, disrupt others' mating patterns, and utterly disrupt or over-consume other varieties - the result would be..... even greater loss of sealife in both short and long-term, and most noteably loss of VARIETY - the bench mark of sustainability. These other fish would come to dominate, most probably set-up simplistic ecosystems that create greater "densities" of resulting negatives (whether its feces etc, consumption patterns, population explosions etc etc).... the outcome is a highly unbalanced system.
We're guilty enough of variety and animal/fish-population disruption and distruction as it is. Global warming (whether a human generated/facilitated phenomenon or not), is also causing problems for fish numbers. A sensible, sustainable species would take note of these things.
And sunny, for all you know, there's a reason why you don't like cranberry. Sometimes it's good to pay attention to your bodies promptings. Making it taste better wouldn't make those (potential) reasons go away. You dig? My little techno-pig :p ;)

HHmm.. I disagree. I think glowing fish, if let loose in the wild, would be easier to see, and eat. They would become brightly colored snacks in no time and would probably be gobbled up within the hour.
About the cranberry, that's an interesting point. Except:
#1 - Cranberries prevent harmful bacteria from wreaking havoc on the body.
#2 - When used as a preventive measure, cranberries help reduce dependence on antibiotics, and slow the pace of global antibiotic resistance.
#3 - Cranberries deliver a hearty dose of antioxidants.
#4 - Cranberries combat oxidative stress.
#5 - A laboratory study in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry showing that certain cranberry extracts inhibited the growth of a variety of tumor cells, supporting earlier studies conducted elsewhere.
Therefor I should eat cranberries and science should make them tastier. :)

The aftermath of Sunfrog’s once and only time eating Cranberry sauce and the real reason he doesn’t like it… ;D
Sunny, you sheep-digger you, did you just make all that up? It sounded suspiciously like genuine fruit-related benefits. Shocking. Except for the antibiotics thing - which sounded like sheep-testicles :) :p - or at the very best a fairly specious argument, coz even if they do have some "preventative" properties, no GPs, doctors, or factory-farmers seem to be prescribing them :p - and the last guys are the ones who are using about 50% of trhe antibiotics it seems.
Anyway, i don't think frogs should eat fruit.
EDIT: My god, you're not talking nonsense for a change. Cranberries can be useful for "urinary tract infections". Well well well.

No, I got it from the Cranberry Institute (http://www.cranberryinstitute.org/)

LOL....myyyy goodness what big tears you have Tadpole...errrr...I mean Froggy. You didn’t experiment with your cranberries like I suggested in the other thread...have you. Well, just as in making love, sometimes a little experimenting is key to finding what you like. Just relax, have fun and find the the right amount of suger and spice you likie. ;D
The cranberries I made at Thanksgiving were really good. I made them from fresh berries and simmered them with Port wine, oranges, suger and other spices. It was both sweet and tangy. No mouth puckering, moisture sucking stuff here.
By the way Froggy...you’re lips look good red. Eat more cranberries.~ :D

As I was making a Cranberry-Orange Cheesecake this afternoon (for Thanksgiving), and it reminded about this thread. Since this is the season for these bright red berries, I thought I'd pop this thread back up. Blibbly and Sunfrog...you both tickle me.
Sooo....How do you all like your cranberries?
I recently tried a cranberry cocktail with vodka, champagne and an orange liquer that was mighty tasty.

I'm all in favor of GM foods, all those people who say it's bad and all - we will never know if we start trying it out!!!
Food facts:
Did you know that allot of the foods we eat already are GM?
Some of the food that is given to cattle and chickens are just ground up, dried up by-products and waste of cattle and chichens.

Cranberries are gross. Though I hate all fruit, my animosity towards carnberries began one Christmas eve. My desperado housewife of a Mom had me show off my creative powress by setting the table in "an artful manner". After my job was done, she saw me liunging about and handed me a classic Villeroy & Boch, teeming with cranberries. In the dim, ambiantic candlelight I could see them gloating in their sticky sweetness. They then excersised their egos and spilt on my white dress and the white tablecloth. eww gross. Of course, being Mom's favorite, I was blamed and they were spared and early death.

I've been quite stressed lately between Thanksgiving, work, the kids, school conferences (the aftermath of which I'm still feeling), work, planning and getting together two separate birthday parties (both kids were born on the same day only two years apart), kicking my daughters' rear into gear on a few things, Dr.s' appointments, phone meetings, husband re-training, getting ready for christmas and work that I think I'm shutting down a wee bit.
