Some older movies before Dolby digital, with list the sound mix as either 'dolby', or 'dolby stereo'. But is there a difference between the two?

Stereo means multichannel, with sound that can come from the left or right, for example.

Oh okay so if a movie sound mix says 'dolby' then it's mono then?

Yeah, Dolby is a brand name, so in that case it's describing the brand providing the audio and not the type of audio.

Okay thanks, that is what I thought. However, if I look up technical specs of a movie, it often says the brandname and not the type of audio. Are there any sites that are good at describing the types of audio for many movies?
