From here on out every week, I'll be presenting some sort of personal Top 10 list that will usually NOT be about movies. Maybe about Sports, Video Games, Traveling, Food, Music, yadda yadda yadda.

I know nobody will really care, but either way I'm doing it.

Tune in every Monday or Tuesday night to see a new list!

Top 10 NES Games

https://assets.catawiki.nl/assets/2017/12/28/2/a/f/2af72b42-ca89-434d-b8fc-716ec5354e7e.jpg

We will start here with the baddest badboy system ever created!. Yeah, I owned an Atari, but this was the first true joyhood of my video gaming childhood. Countless hours were spent and many a late nights happened as a kid and more specifically as a teenager. My Dad had found me one for Christmas and the best part about it was that it came with like a huge bundle of about 50 games. I couldn't imagine getting a Christmas present like this today and to this day it may very well be the best gift that I have gotten.

Rather than a top 10, maybe I should change my thought on it as a favorite 10. Not necessarily the 10 greatest, but the ten that I have pegged down as my favorites of all time. Maybe there wouldn't be a whole lot of difference for me, but I figured it was still worth specifying.

To this day I still dig the system by the way. I was a part of two Tecmo Super Bowl tournaments this year and I see no reason why I will not be joining those tournaments in 2019.

So on to the list!

10. Little League Baseball

https://www.mobygames.com/images/shots/l/49991-little-league-baseball-championship-series-nes-screenshot-homerun.gif

I'm not all too big on baseball video games, but this one.was.always a fun go. I think the best thing was crushing Homers, and stealing bases with regularity was also something that I really had down to a T. I also had a pretty decent hold on striking these fools out, if I didn't hit them with the pitch.

9. Rescue Rangers

This one I actually never played until a few years ago, but it is a really fun game, sort of like a DuckTales/Mega Man blend. The levels are pretty entertaining and so are the bosses. They give enough difficulty, but not enough to make you lose your mind. The last boss, The Fat cat, is obviously the most challenging yet the most fun of all.

8. Bubble Bobble

Another fun co-op game. It's cool that there's over 100 levels, that password can be a killer. Always cool to try to collect those letters. I've never played the rare second one though.

7. Mega Man 5

https://gamefaqs.akamaized.net/screens/b/5/c/gfs_39664_2_1.jpg

Well first off, this series rocks. Second off we have some badass villains. And isn't this one of the more fun Mega Man games to get to Dr. Wilys lair? I always thought it was the best in that regard. I really just enjoyed the levels immensely. It was fun to stock up on E's. Charge Man, Star Man and Stone Man over time became as simple as could be but that didn't stop me from playing over and over again.

Haven't played any so far I am not 100% sure I had this system actually. I had regular NES and played the heck out of Mario and Excitebike. Then I had Genesis, and that started my love of sports games which is pretty much all I played after getting that system, maybe some Street Fighter and Mario mixed in with friends every so often.

6. Castlevania

http://www.retrogameage.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Castlevania_Gameplay2-5.png

Let's continue this badboy with another badass game that started one of the best video game franchises known to date. How can a game be so simple yet so difficult? This was not something I really played too much growing up although I do believe I had it, but revisited it recently and conquered it and it definitely held up. Beating Dracula really was a bitch I'm not going to lie, some of the other bosses really gave me a run for my money. But this is one of those games beating that you definitely feel like it's one of your stronger accolades when all is said and done. Perhaps the second best in the franchise ever, which is impressive seeing as this was it's first entry.

These are the games I remember playing the most.

Super Mario Bros
Power Blade
Tetris
Duck Hunt
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Battletoads
Hogan's Alley
Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos
American Gladiators

5. RC Pro Am

https://i.ytimg.com/vi/-mTTcYO_LHY/maxresdefault.jpg

The penultimate racing game in my opinion. I just like the action, the weapons, the simplicity, and the difficulty the further you get along. The vehicle upgrades by collecting letters became really fun too. Of course your opponents upgraded as well so it just made the game more challenging in all honesty I remember buying this at K Mart back in the day and it ultimately became one of the best purchases I ever made. And why did I throw those boxes away back in the day? Here I am chasing them all back as the gaming collector in me would have me doing so. Got to love it, anyways, theres a few racing games that I like better than this nowadays but not for the NES, and this was the first true one that started the love of them for me.

It's pretty cool how we all had our own different set of go to games. I'd say 3 or 4 of these were on mine.

4. Super Mario Brothers

https://amp.businessinsider.com/images/560ebbe7dd0895325c8b458e-750-559.jpg

Technically I couldn't blame anybody for having this at one as it's pretty much the game we all had. My best memory with the game was at the restaurant we used to go to every Friday had it in their little mini arcade section so I got to play it there every week, more than likely this was before I even had a gaming system. But yeah the game is pretty legendary obviously. The levels are pretty soundly made, the music is pretty great and it had it's great little tricks to the game that everybody had figured out after awhile. You won't see many top lists that don't have this one hanging around. Is it the greatest of the trio?

I didn't have a Nintendo, but I was addicted to the PC version of Bubble Bobble.

3. Mega Man 3

https://retrogameman.files.wordpress.com/2016/06/mm3-2.jpg?w=1364&h=1261

The second entry of the franchise on the top 10. The most challenging of the 6 games to hit the Nintendo platform which obviously makes it one of the stronger accolades of my video game conquering history. Some of the jumps require the most precise timing that I've ever seen in an NES game. These bosses don't go down easy. I'd actually say it's easier ones are basically on par with the difficult ones from number 5, enough to continually frustrate you yet you feel challenged and continually try to grind out getting further in the game. Between Castlevania and this one, probably my two strongest NES achievements to date, especially since I haven't beaten a few of the baddest badboys that this platform has to offer.

2. Super Mario 3

https://icdn2.digitaltrends.com/image/super-mario-bros-3-title-feat.jpg

I think it's arguably the best of the Mario franchise, although I am really digging Super Mario Sunshine on a replay level and I will be the person to admit I haven't really even played much Super Mario 64. But this one had all the little tips and tricks. I always never used the whistle and managed to get through all 8 levels. Pipe level was my hardest draw back in the day, even harder than level 8. Loved trying to beat non water levels in that frog suit, that was a fricken challenge. I'd say my favorite levels would go to level 2 desert land, loved running against that damn sun and dominating him. Also a big fan of Giant Land. Sky Land is where you really felt the nostalgia and you felt as if you were becoming a true Super Mario 3 legend by getting even closer to the end. A legendary classic that I can't deny anybody of having at that number one spot.

Near Misses

Before we get to number one, this was an extremely hard list as really they all will be and it was hard to narrow it down to just 10 on perhaps the greatest video game console of all time. Here's a few others that were definitely given consideration, just missing or ultimately not having played enough of to really make an impact to make the list.

Battletoads- Because, admittedly, I've never beaten level 3 in my life. Which is a crying damn shame since it's extremely fun and yet frustrating to beat.

Legend of Zelda- never beaten it honestly but had some fun with it. One of these days it will be on my list to take down

Kid Icarus- a really fun one that again, I've never beaten but have always had the desire to.

Felix the Cat- honestly maybe one of the more casual fun NES Games ever created.

Captain Skyhawk- one of the greatest plane games ever

1943- right on Pace with Captain Skyhawk. A great fun game.

I don't even think I had or played 10 games on my NES, but Super Mario 3 was my favourite by far. It's an amazing game, but I've probably not played it since the year it came out. Maybe the year after?

for me, along with Zelda, Metroid was the one I played again and again and again

and, of course, Contra WITH the cheat code for extra lives or there was NO CHANCE in hell of getting anywhere on that game. And you HAD to have a second player for that one as well.

No surprises here. Obviously it's a game I consider myself as a legitimate contender as one of the greater players of the game, at least maybe a top 200 player in the world which I know sounds silly. I took top 32 in one tournament last year that had about 100 players. In Tecmo Bowl Madison, which is harder, I was bounced in the first round because you have to win your bracket with only 3 people in it and I got beat by a legitimately decent contender. Hope to do better in that one in 2019. But yes, it's a great game that has been an obvious favorite for years.

I wish I had more experiences with Metroid and Contra. Both are considered some of the best games on the platform. I just never really played them all too much. Remember Contra being super crazy difficult though.

Metroid was just plain addictive and Contra WAS hard. You really needed the extra lives and a second player to beat it.

NES was my first console, but I was so young and the games were, on average, fairly difficult, so I don't really have that much nostalgia for the era. (I don't think I even got past the first level on most of the games I owned as a child.) Everyone loves Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario 3, myself included. Besides those two, Double Dragon was probably my most-played NES game. I know I've played some Mega Man games, but no idea which ones.

I remember playing Tecmo Super Bowl, but I didn't understand how football worked at the time, so I'd always run in the opposite direction and get tackled in my own end-zone for a safety. My buddy owns an NES classic, so I played the game on there awhile back and had fun. Crazy to think of the differences between that game and the newest Maddens.

Fun thread so far, rauldc14. Looking forward to whatever top ten lists you post going forward.

Top 10 Songs High School Style

It's that time to jam away. Well, I'm really not sure much of this will be considered jamming but I seemed to have an interesting ear for music back in the day that I can pretty much guarantee many won't either know or care about but hey, it is what it is. These days I really seem to like any kind of music under the sun and I have grown a fond interest for a lot of that classic rock, but back in the day I wasn't really too much into it yet. Here and there yes. Remember those NOW CDs, the ones they are still making? A lot of songs that I listened to back in the day were featured right on there! Basically high school was lived on those first 8 CDs. I have fond memories of hanging in my bedroom with the boom box on and burning CDs (probably illegally, go Napster and all those other devices). Would be cool someday to take a time machine to that period and travel back in time but every so often I get the itch to YouTube some of that stuff anyways. Nevertheless, lots of great stuff but the top 10 is incoming.

10. AFI- Silver and Cold

What kind of music is AFI exactly. I'm not really sure, in all honesty it's pretty dark but it always caught my ears. I'm not a dark guy but I always thought their music was pretty solid. Listened to this one a lot. Hell they even had an AFI song on the Madden soundtrack back in the day.

9. Dispatch- The General

Great catchy tune. Again, not sure on the kind of music it is but it's just a very relaxing tune with great music IMO.

5. Red Hot Chili Peppers- Dani California

Could have chose a bunch of Red Hot Chili Peppers songs and I'd be happy. Probably my favorite band of all time if I'm being honest. And Stadium Arcadium is there best album. Basically I could pick a different song everyday here and be happy with the outcome.

4. Crossfade- Cold

Has anybody even heard of this band. Admittedly I think I've only listened to one of their albums (if they even have anymore, never really researched) and I thought it was great. You may start to be getting a handle on my high school tastes by now. Some may say grim, but I've never felt too grim about what I've listened to. Not the cheeriest stuff, but it's catchy tunes with great music to boot.

My theme song of high school. But yeah I dug Puddle of Mudd- back in the day and could have also picked Blurry too. Was a great catchy tune.

2. Alkaline Trio- Radio

This is a super underrated band and this is the best song of them all, although they really have many that are great. Like I said, I had a strange taste for music back in the day but just how this all comes together is simply awesome.

1. Staind- Epiphany

My favorite band in high school. Just always connected to Aaron Lewis and the Staind crew. The lyrics are deep for every song, they have a ton of good ones. In a close call, I pick this as their best. But it was super close honestly.
