View Full Version : Expressions and Sayings You're Tired Of
For me, I'm getting a little tired of the word "wig**r" or "Wigga". The word is short for "white ni***r", half of that being a completely unacceptable word for any white person to say. Would you say that word by itself? I wouldn't either. Saying that word is just the same as saying what it really stands for IMO. It may directed at a white person but it still acknowledges the ugliness of the original. Even worse, is that it is intended to be worse by saying someone is a copy of an ugly and unacceptable generalization. I think we can come up with better word that means the same thing, don't you? It may not be intended to be so but to me it comes off as borderline racism.
Anyone else have a saying or expression(s) that they don't like or just can't stand hearing anymore???

"That's tha bomb"
"Know what I'm sayin?"
How about "underhanded Stalinist tactics"?
Oh, who am I kidding? I can't get enough of that one.
How about "who f**king cares?"

"Weapons of Mass Destruction" and "Justice". The latter, not for the word itself, but the way our Prez likes to drawl it out, "Juhs-tice".

EDIT: Stay Cool Yoda. Stay Cool.
But...but...mommmmyyyy...it was Ryan's (Kaitlyn') fault!
Expressions I'm tired of saying (and thought I'd never say).....
"I said no fighting!"
"Go to your rooms!"
"Because I said so!"

Annie, here are some expressions that I used as a kid:
"I didn't do it. I swear!"
"I couldn't find a phone."
"I didn't get my report card yet."
"Here's a note from my mom...I was sick yesterday."

"I could care less."
Mostly it drives me nuts because it's used incorrectly. What folks mean to say is "I couldn't care less", but for some reason in the vernacular it is commonly misspoken, and what's worse accepted. I try to respond, 'Oh, and what, for example, do you care less about?' or 'Well, what's it gonna take then for you to care even less?'

I agree. Another popular expression that drives me nuts is when people use the fictional word "irregardless".

Yoda! You noticed! :modest:
I hate when the news people use the word 'allegedly' :furious:

You do understand that "allegedly" is there for legal reasons, yeah?
Another one I hate is "near miss". This too is a phrase that means the opposite of how it is used. When two planes almost collide midair, that's not a near miss, it's a near hit! They nearly hit each other but missed, not nearly missed each other but hit. "Holy crud, we nearly missed that plane, Captain, but next time around we'll definitely clip the bastard!" I don't know for sure, but the FAA must be behind that one, some descision from on high that folks psychologically don't want to hear the word "hit" when talking about planes. Whoever is responsible, they should be shot. Not near shot, but nail 'em dead center.

Yeah, but But i can still be sick of it. :yup:

"Can you hear me now?"
And I also find it amusing when people use the word "acrossed", as in "It's just acrossed the street." No such word, but it's fun to hear people say it.
Or how 'bout "Kindy-garden". I've heard well educated adults say this one. Of course we all know it pronounced Kinder-garten.

That's an interesting bit of trivia! (Of course, I don't exactly see how it fits in with anything we're discussing here, but it's interesting nonetheless).

I’m not really surprised that you didn’t understand the significance of what I posted… nor am I surprised you thought the information trivial… as a matter of fact, it is exactly the reaction I expected from someone who erroneously cries racism at every opportunity…

Actually, Caitlyn, I'm just way too busy having a good time in Malibu and Hollywood to really care about what you have to say! There are just way too many gorgeous babes in this town! Blondes, brunettes and, especially, red-hot redheads (my personal favorite)! ;D

Probably because he realized how bizarre it was to accuse you of thinking your native-american ethnicity somehow excuses your "right-wing, ultra-conservative politics," or however it was he phrased it. Wouldn't that qualify as racist under his lax definition of the word?
Anyway, it's the same old song. These days, though, instead of having work to do when he wants to dodge an argumentative bullet, it's the beach instead. It's transparent as all get out.

Originally posted by Django but then editied…
Well, I'm sorry that I don't follow the significance of your obscure allusion to my avatar, but I hardly agree with your absurd allegation that I "erroneously cry racism at every opportunity". As it happens, your own political leanings seem to indicate that you would hardly qualify as someone capable of making any sort of valid assessment on the subject. You claim to be of native American descent and seem to argue that that justifies your right-wing, ultra-conservative politics. In my opinion, that tactic can only take you so far! Talk about shape-shifters and people pretending to be what they are not!

The claim that I compulsively feed on attention would imply that I go out of my way to seek it. Nothing could be further from the truth, mon ami!
The truth is that I'm enjoying my life and having a good time! I couldn't care less what crabs like Yoda or Caitlyn say or think! They hate themselves and their lives and express their own self-loathing by taking out their frustrations on average guys like me! I'd recommend therapy, but, then again, it makes no difference to me, one way or the other! So whatever!
Truth is, Slaytan, I have nothing to gain from grabbing people's attention. If I was a politician, sure, I'd have plenty to gain. But I am not--I'm just a working professional who happens to enjoy his lifestyle. Why would I give a fig for your or Yoda's or Caitlyn's or anyone else's attention?
As I said earlier, the fact that some people are so darned obsessed about everything I say does not mean that I crave their, or anyone else's attention! It's their problem, not mine!

What's your point, crab-woman?
My point is that earlier you stated the Eagle was “a universally recognized symbol of liberty and independence”… and all I did was give you a different view of what the eagle represents to some Native American cultures… a view that actually has a lot of religious significance to them... and you in turn called the information “trivia” …
Definition of Trivia -- something of small importance
Definition of racism -- discriminatory or abusive behavior towards members of another race
Definition of discriminatory -- containing or implying a slight
Definition of racist -- discriminatory especially on the basis of race or religion
Think about it… and while you're at it think about how childish it is to resort to name calling...
 Oh, please!
I was using the word "trivia" to refer to an interesting bit of general knowledge. As used in the context of the board game "Trivial Pursuit".
I think you're grasping at straws here to justify your irrational antagonism towards me!
Frankly, I'm bored!
Also, it's about time for me to meet up with some friends to see Kill Bill!

I really wish you and Caity wouldn't reply to him. I get sick of having to scrol past his pointless, and endless, defensiveness. He's a punk. Let him talk to himself. PLEASE!!!
I'm actually going to have to side with Django on this one.
"That's an interesting bit of trivia." was clearly not meant to be derisive, it's a common turn of phrase.
Although I guess this all depends on the contents of the edited post.
Either way, at this poiint, I think we're all antagonizing him a bit.

Thanks for siding with me on this one, Herod. I owe you one!
Incidentally, here's another "interesting bit of trivia" for the entertainment of one and all:
Did you know that the British royal family (i.e. QE2, Prince Charles and Prince William) are direct descendants of Count Vlad Dracul of Wallachia, a.k.a. Vlad the Impaler or Count Dracula?
Fascinating, ain't it? ;D

Django....just stop it. Your constant childish behavior has gone on long enough. Just be a man for once and take the high road instead of goading people on. Before you get all defensive with me...you have to know that reading through this thread...and seeing you call people names, you come across as trying to push peoples' buttons and crying for attention.
Just stop it....please.
Frankly, I am getting FED UP of this crap!!!
I am sick to my teeth of this nonsense!
I post some harmless comments, only to get Yoda and Caitlyn hounding me with their meaningless remarks, and when I respond, I get criticized and accused of everything from being childish to being boring!
I mean, come on! The people levelling baseless allegations against me are not even being consistent!
Anyway, like I said, who cares! I have better things to do than wasting my time over this nonsense!
(And I can bet that Yoda will criticize me for even this remark!)
As far as the name-calling goes, hey, when I call someone something, you can bet it's justified! I called Yoda and Caitlyn crabs and losers, and you can damn well bet it's completely justified! They are, in fact, crabs and losers! Thus, my remarks are not insults, but, rather, accurate observations of their pointless crap! So I don't apologize for my words at all!
The allegations are generally quite consistent. You are not criticized for replying, but rather, you are criticzed for how you reply. I don't see why you cannot grasp that.
Sure, I grasp that. But it's also pretty obvious to me that the allegations are far from consistent.
Regarding what you said--you pointed out that the criticisms are directed not so much at the content of my posts but, rather, at the style. Let's get specific here. What's at fault? My writing style? My choice of language? My grammar (or grampa)? My spelling? My diction? The tone of my voice (though how you can judge that from written text is beyond me)? How about some pointed, specific constructive remarks so that I can make the appropriate changes, as opposed to the standard, inconsistent, vague expression of hostility that I have to confront in here day in and day out?

After reviewing this entire thread, I must apologize to Django. It does seem that you were picked on and goaded. You could, however, let these things slide. What really pisses me off though, is that so many threads are ruined because the focus is lost on the topic at hand, and instead turns into a Caity and Chris vs Django thread. Make your own thread for the three of you and quit polluting all of these other threads.
Is that fair?

I think it's both; both what you're saying, and how you choose to say it. If you're genuine in your request for specifics, I can give them to you. Just state your preferences: here, or in a new thread? Elaborated, or summarized?

Don't, even for a moment, think that I am on your side, man. This time I see what there is to see, but in the past your negative attitude and constant need for negative reinforcement has caused all the dislike directed towards you. I am so sick of seeing threads destroyed because of you. I wish you would leave MoFo, and go cause trouble somewhere else. This is a community of people who want to talk like friends, have friendly debates, and above all, talk about movies. I am sick to death of you and your pointless bull****. GOD!!! Just go!!!
Doesn't it occur to you, at all, that what you observe right here might apply to past situations as well?
Also, I think my attitude is and has been pretty upbeat and positive most of the time. I hardly think it's fair to accuse me of disrupting things on the forum. Also, like I said before, I don't crave attention--positive or negative. I can't be blamed if some people are so obsessed that they feel compelled to hound me whenever and whatever I post. I don't think it's fair to blame me for the compulsive attitudes of some posters towards me (for whatever reason).
The fact is that my posts are, for the most part, innocuous enough. But my PRESENCE on this board (for whatever reason--I won't speculate) is enough to incite some people into a hostile, disruptive frame of mind. As a result, I am getting the heat for their attitudes. Is that my fault? Can I be blamed if someone else hates me for no apparent reason? Why should the blame fall on me?
