It kinda saddens me how in terms of modern comedy, this show risks getting forgotten in a few years. You still hear people talk about Parks And Recreation, The Us version of The Office, Community, How I Met Your Mother and 30 Rock, even though they ended some years ago. These will remain popular with audiences for many years to come. (Despite my opinion of HIMYM being very overrated)
But Man Seeking Woman was cancelled and only a minor vocal crowd was upset about it. Just ask any of your friends, have they even heard of this show? Probably not. And it's a shame! Man Seeking Woman doesn't dumb itself down for its audience. The characters are representations, yet very much believable. The exaggerated world Josh lives in is the manifestation of his psyche. He shows our common worries, fears, hopes and blind decision making we all possess in one way or another. If you think Josh falling in love with a car is crazy, it's because it's a literal interpretation of how he thinks. He wants someone reliable who offers no intellectual challenge or difficulties for him, and that he can basically show off to his friends and family that it's pretty much literally nothing more than an exemplary car. And when he's surrounded by a news team who are taking note of his positive development, it's to show how his self confidence and optimism is building up. The way we feel when we feel so sure that we will win someone's affections we turn naive.
It works so well because despite all of this, Josh is not a very flashy guy. He's often nervous, chooses his words very carefully (or in some cases, not carefully enough), has social anxiety and gets along with people as well as he clashes with them. So because he's so damn likeable, we root for him even though he's not always the brightest and makes mistakes that some would fault him for. It's a spot-on satire on the crazy chaos that's our mind intent on finding love and the dating industry.
