Just wanted to give a respectful shoutout to Dame Daphne Sheldrick who has died at age 84. She was the most amazing woman who has done more for elephant conservation than anyone else in the world. The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (which I financially support) is based in Kenya & is named for Daphne’s late husband. Daphne’s daughter, Angela, will now run the Trust.

R.I.P.

Photo is by Art Wolfe, renowned nature photographer, whose working process is explored in the PBS series: Travels to the Edge. He has expressed deep concern for the plight of these creatures, and regards them as intelligent, social and empathetic creatures.

They are the most amazing & beautiful animals & if we don’t step in to stop poaching they may be extinct within a decade. lenslady

If you see it, then you explain it.

i just had said that elephants would not be extinct in a decade in india at least . then you deliberately made a snide remark about treatment of elephants in india that was uncalled for . i think it was meant to be show the indian people in poor light , as people who mistreat animals . they way it was brought up unnecessarily hints at ulterior motives .

India mistreats its animals. That’s a fact.

We’ve veered way off topic in this thread, which I meant as a tribute to Dame Sheldrick. I will refrain from further comments unless they are relevant to the thread.
