Anyone interested in one? I'll run it same as the
Animation Tournament (https://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?t=47765) except i'll expand it to 128. If anyone is i'll take two nominations from everyone. I'll stop taking nominations once we hit 128 and the first round will have four weeks of 16 matches. You can only vote in a match if you have seen both but you've got a week to watch any you haven't seen.

You don't have to watch anything if you don't want to. Just want to make that clear so people don't think they're signing a contract or something, got a couple of weird apology PM's when i was running the Animation one.

Ongoing Matches:

12 Angry Men 5 vs SE7EN 7
Amadeus 2 vs Wait Until Dark 3

Ties (Please vote in these matches if you've seen both):

Thanks mate. Way Out West is something i'm particularly interested in because i haven't heard of it on my current 1930's journey.

It would be great if i get to see every Renoir film, was more than aware of that but you've now gave me an extra reason to see it if this happens of course.

Soo....How does this work? I've never heard of it before.

Just nominate any 2 films, you'll get to nominate more later if you want. Once i have 128 i'll randomize them and set up a 64 match first round. I'll do 16 matches at a time, and we'll just keep going on until one film remains. You can only vote in a match if you've seen both films, if you want to watch something to vote you'll have some time but you don't have to watch anything for this if you don't want to.

Here's an Animated Film Tournament i ran once, same thing except it was a 64 film tournament instead of 128 - https://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?t=47765

No, pick anything other than the films on the first page. I need 128 different films.

Yes. Or.. you just vote for the winner in each match. You can only vote if you've seen both films but you don't have to vote on each match. It's the same thing as the Song Tournaments.

It's a 128 film tournament i'll be putting up 16 matches at once. They'll stay up for about a week, if anyone wants to watch some of the films they haven't seen during that time to vote they can but they don't have to.

What did you think of Christmas Evil though?

Not my type of 80's Slasher, to much of cheap Grindhouse feel to it. I like my slashers to be more gallo inspired like Slaughter High (1986), Terror Train(1980). My Bloody Valentine (1981) and the Prowler (1981).

These are the only matches without a vote so far:

Our Hitler: A Film From Germany (1977) vs Safe (1995)
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) vs Eureka (2000)
Mephisto (1981) vs The Colour Purple
Death and the Maiden (1994) vs Los Olvidados
Being John Malkovich vs Mystery Team (2009)
A Man Called Horse vs The Last Detail (1973)

If the Our Hitler match doesn't get any votes i'll probably just kick that out as i just realized it's nearly 8 hours long and it's unreasonable to expect anyone to watch that within the week the set is supposed to be up. I'm not putting up with films that completely halt the tournament as that ruined one of these i ran before. I might watch Eureka and Death and the Maiden if i get the chance.

I'm surprised that so many people have apparently seen it here, but I have to wonder if so many people have seen it because it's against No Country. But, yeah, I haven't seen SNDN. Christmas Evil is an odd film, but I think it's actually a good film, not in a funny cause it's terrible way.

Clue (1985) vs The Lives of Others (2006)-Was disappointed in the second but didn't care for Clue at all.

Dodsworth (1936) vs The Piano Teacher (2001)-Both good movies that I watched for this tournament. Close call.

Our Hitler: A Film From Germany (1977) vs Safe (1995)-Haven't seen either.

Don’t Look Now (1973) vs Deep Red-Didn't like Deep Red.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) vs Eureka (2000)-Like the first, haven't seen the second.

Carlos vs Fried Green Tomatoes-Haven't seen either but I think I might like both.

West Side Story (1961) vs The Conversation (1974)-Was very disappointed in The Conversation but I want to try it again. I'll never like WSS.

Mephisto (1981) vs The Colour Purple-Havents seen the first and I like the second a lot.

Apologies to Ms. M, i personally wasn't a big fan of Fried Green Tomatoes. There was nothing wrong with it, it was a nice little film with some good performances it just isn't the type of film i'm that into that much anymore and i personally found it a little too long. Glad i gave it a shot as i rarely try films like that anymore. Carlos is one of my favourite films which makes this an easy decision.

Carlos vs Fried Green Tomatoes

Two ties remaining, should be easy to find one for the Conversation vs WSS one, i may have to watch A Man Called Horse myself to sort the other out.

Ha, you might not be thanking me if all I've done is create more eventual ties :D Besides, I've been meaning to get round to Woman In The Dunes and Tetsuo for quite some time, loved the Three Colours trilogy so was easily up for something else from Kieslowski and Equus has a nekked Jenny A of legal age in it which is never a hardship to view so none of them were exactly a chore :)

Full disclosure: I have seen Equus before but not for some time and really appreciated the refresher :randy:

I've only watched three and i'm the host.
It's not a competition in terms of who can view most though and having shipped herself to the UK until Thurs evening I needed something to pass the time today ;)

Round 1, Set 2

Requiem For a Dream vs The Day The Earth Caught Fire (1961)-I'm a fan of Requiem and haven't seen the other.

Tetsuo, the Iron Man vs United 93 (2006)-I'm glad to have watched Tetsuo. I just like the other movie more.

Only Lovers Left Alive (2013) vs After Hours-Enjoyed the first but an easy call for me.

Three Monkeys (2008) vs Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)-Only seen Fury Road, which I did not like.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom vs Leaving Las Vegas (1995)-Temple of Doom is good, but my least favorite of the original trilogy. LLV is probably my favorite of the tournament and could easily be in my top 10.

Song For A Raggy Boy (2003) vs Good Will Hunting-Love the second and haven't seen the first.

Interstellar (2014) vs Sweet Smell of Success-The second is good but an easy call for me.

Lolita Vibrator Torture (1987) vs Miller's Crossing (1990)-Thanks to those who helped me with links to the first; they just didn't work for me. I'll get to see it one day. I like Miller's Crossing but don't love it.

Now, Voyager vs Amadeus-Didn't like Amadeus.

Equus (1977) vs Portrait of Jennie (1948)-Like both.

Harvey (1950) vs The Killers (1946)-Like both.

Way Out West vs Woman in the Dunes (1964)-Easy call.

Blue Valentine (2010) vs The Virgin Spring-Tough match, love both.

Blind Chance vs Southern Comfort-Love the second.

Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016) vs 4:44 Last Day on Earth (2011)-Liked the first.

Pan's Labyrinth (2006) vs Wrong Side Up (P. Zelenka, 2005)-Liked the first.

I don't really keep up with my lists here (although I guess I should go through all of them and actually mark off all of the films I've seen), and my review thread only has films listed that I've watched since I started keeping track of ratings.

Anyway, yeah, I've seen 'em.

Also a big fan of foxes.

So much that when i was a kid i used to try and chase after dirty wild foxes when i was a kid. My one was paranoid one would attack me and give me rabies  Like i was ever going to catch a fox, gosh mum.

we have red foxes around here, though I've never been lucky enough to see one. That would be pretty cool.

I see them pretty frequently here at night, although they quickly disappear usually. So fast and majestic, love them. Few weeks ago i looked out my window at like 1AM and saw four of them nonchalantly walking together. As much as i like them that would definitely have made me nervous haha.

Yeah, I love those kind of moments. We have a lot of deer roaming the neighborhoods and a lot of late nights or rainy days you can see them. Actually had one visit our backyard late November. Along with hawks always circling or perching, (saw one snatch up a gray squirrel outside my window a few years back) we get the usual raccoons, hedgehogs, possums and skunks. The occasional garter snake now and again out in the woods. I've heard owls out and about but never seen them.
I remember there being sightings of mountain lions some 10-15 yrs ago, but for such creatures like bear and elk you have to go to the northern tip of Michigan.
Don't know what I'd do if I saw a bear besides be too terrified to move lol

Sadly, no wolves, but there a federal reserve in, I believe either Indiana or Illinois and there are packs in Minnesota, I believe. Keep planning on visiting the reserve and haven't yet.

Watching Interstellar today. I'm claiming the tiebreaker vote haha, don't want to watch a nearly three hour film then see someone else has already broke it. Hope it's good.

After reading Cricket's review of House of Tolerance, I realized I ACTUALLY saw this a year or so ago. VERY good movie but it's QUITE the range for going against Army of Darkness, ya know? The cerebral vs the silly. They kinda stand alone in their own domains.
And since Tolerance is doing just fine at 2 to 0, no need to argue with myself on which to vote for. lol

Round 1, Set 3

The Sword of Doom vs Rope (1948)-I wasn't crazy about Rope when I last saw it. The first would have a good chance in this round if more people watched it.

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly vs Sideways-The first is brilliant but I don't enjoy it as much as I used to. I love Sideways.

I Accuse (1919) vs Little Shop of Horrors (1986)-Saw the second once at the movies and thought it was ok. The first sounds good but I don't have the time to watch that long of a movie right now.

Children of Paradise vs La Bête Humaine-I liked the second but the first is one of the best movies I've seen.

Let the Right One In (2008) vs Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958)-Like both, but neither as much as I want to.

Big Fish vs Dances With Wolves-Saw the second recently and loved it. I keep thinking I want to see Big Fish, but I remembered that my wife and I started it but shut it off.

The Undying Monster (1942) vs Evil Dead Trap-I've probably seen the first but I don't remember.

The River (1951) vs Predator (1987)-Watched The River for the 50's countdown and didn't care for it. Predator starts to drag for me near the end but most of it is awesome.

The Abominable Snowman (1957) vs The 'Burbs-I think I've seen the first years ago. I haven't seen The 'Burbs.

The Bad and the Beautiful vs The Departed-I've never thought of The Departed as a great movie but it's great for me. I very much enjoyed the first movie.

A Bittersweet Life vs Hombre (1967)-It was a treat watching both of these for this tournament.

28 Days Later (2002) vs Ordinary People (1980)-An easy call even if it's a pretty good match.

Once Were Warriors (1994) vs Lady Snowblood (1973)-Close call. The first movie is one of the best about domestic violence.

Mona Lisa vs Bridget Jones's Diary-Love the first, like the second.

House of Tolerance vs Army of Darkness-Never liked Army of Darkness.

Funny Games (1997) vs City Girl-The first is more my style but I think City Girl is better.
