"NBC is taking another crack at adapting the British sitcom “The IT Crowd” for American audiences, Variety has learned exclusively.

Original series creator Graham Linehan is set to write and executive produce a reimagining of the show, which follows the employees in the IT department of a massive corporation. Patrick Daly and Jon Rolph will also executive produce, with Universal Television producing.

This marks NBC’s third attempt to create an American version of the series, though it will be the first that Linehan will write. In 2007, the network produced a pilot starring Joel McHale and Jessica St. Clair, with Ayoade reprising his role as Moss. NBC then gave a put pilot commitment to a new version of the project in 2014 that hailed from Bill Lawrence, Neil Goldman, and Garrett Donovan that ultimately did not move forward."

It sounds bad that Ayoade was in there as Moss – why not just start afresh? Reminds me of the US Red Dwarf pilot, this.

Oh God no.

That's right, I must have subconciously thought about Robert Llewellyn reprising his role. It's truly awful isn't it? I've never seen it properly before. Jane Leeves is pretty annoying. I more clearly remembered a version where Cat was female, played by Terry Farrell.

Some people never learn from their mistakes.

That's nothing. Wait until you find out about the US Peep Show pilot

I would have thought that that could actually work. It's such a brilliant idea to have come up with.

Fresh Meat might be more difficult to translate to the US though, should they think it's a goer.

The worst thing about the US Peep Show is that they throw the POV shots and voiceovers out of the window within the first 5 minutes, making it look like every other sitcom on TV.

If you're not going to keep the thing that makes it stand out in the first place then why even bother remaking it?

That sounds completely misguided. Maybe the challenge of filming that way was just too much for them?

I love Peep Show – hopefully American audiences will root it out and appreciate it. It's incredible that it lasted 9 series.
