Holidays like midsummer, Christmas and Easter at least are a bit more festive, there's a lot you can do to get into the spirit of or celebrate Christmas for instance. But Black Friday is literally about nothing but consumerism, people treat it like some holy thing when all it's about are stores going "Buy my ****!". It honestly kinda repulses me it's seen as a respected holiday, the same I feel about 4/20.

You couldn't pay me to go to a store on this day.
Well... maybe if you paid me and I didn't have to go in! ;)

By the South Park parody's I thought it was like '95% off of Gaming PC' or something, but nope. It's like 30% off. Shops do those kinda offers EVERY DAY, don't know why they make it look like it only happens on this day.

That's a joke holiday, no-one sees it as a respected holiday.

I'm against any consumer event, and against every holiday for so many reasons.

I'm lost on the point of the brick & mortar sales, compared to shopping online. All of the super deals are on off-brand items the majority of the time. With limited stock, you aren't likely to get one to begin with.

It is a great concept. When people invest that much energy and time, they are likely to buy something to justify the trip.

Holy hell I didnt realise it was actually a public holiday. I think the term black friday is just used here (mostly for net sales) when it's a friday and those sales are (yeah yeah) up to 80% off. There is a Black Friday sale for big dept stores but I dont know when it is because you couldnt pay me to go to one. People act like a stampede of animals, same with boxing day sales.

I have never been to a store on Black Friday, and when I make a significant purchase I shop around online anyway. My wife did happen to go to the dispensary today and was surprised to find out that they even had a Black Friday sale. She stocked up even more than usual.

Holy hell I didnt realise it was actually a public holiday.

It isn't.

I have done some Black Friday shopping in San Francisco years ago with a friend, and really didn't see the appeal. These days I try to get my Christmas shopping done before Thanksgiving. I do occasionally look at Amazon's deals but that's about it.

This year I still have a few things left to buy, but since those things are edible I'm going to wait until closer to the holiday.

I bought my girlfriend the Kindle 10 for Christmas about three weeks back for $150, along with a $40 keyboard for it and Pokemon: Moon for $40. Today, I see that Pokemon Moon is going for about $30, the Kindle is on Amazon for $90, and I don't dare see if the keyboard is marked down. In that respect, ... I am not happy with Black Friday at the moment.

Yeah i looked it up because Ive never known what boxing day means and no 0ne from my generation that I know does either. It's an old british empire thing from when tradesmen dropped around to snooty employers' stately homes to pick up their xmas box, probably fromthe tradesmen's entrance and handed over by the head 'servant'. Also anyone who performederrands for the 'master' and was never paid, like postmen. Should really have been called Christmas Box Day. It's also called (apparently) St Stephen's Day but I had never heard of him or St Stephens Day either.

The only thing I like about Black Friday is buying DVDs at very low prices. Walmart has DVDs for as low as $1.96 each, newer releases for as low as $7.96 each, and TV show box sets for as low as $9.99 each, and Best Buy has DVDs for as low as $1.99 each, newer releases for as low as $7.99 each, and TV show box sets for as low as $6.99 each. Every year on Black Friday, I catch up on some new movies and TV show box sets for $6.99 - $9.99 each.

I can get most of the DVDs I want on their websites, but they don't have all the cheap DVDs available online. However, if I wait until around 5PM on Black Friday, the stores have usually cleared out, and I can still find some of the cheap DVDs that I couldn't get online. No crowds, no fighting. Just bargains. :)

We don't have a Black Friday here though. The closest we have is mellandagsrean, and that's about as near to basic human as Sweden really wants to get.

- Black Friday does not only happen in the USA.
I dislike the American BF: caricatural consumerism;

- It was BF here in France yesterday as well: I dislike it as well.
We already have sales and apparently they're not enough: they had to import that disease (BF) we have culturally nothing to do with.

I don't think it can be taken that way. (?) You don't get the joke. The point IS you can't take it that way. It makes fun of people identifying weed with hard drugs you actually inject into your blood system.

Right, just because Minio can't grow facial hair, doesn't mean he doesn't know about the hairs on marihuana buds.

There is honestly nothing much about the holiday but why it is celebrated is because of the miscellaneous online deals and discounts around the globe. People wait for it all year.

I hate shopping. The only shopping I like is grocery shopping...when I'm hungry:p I've already went Christmas shopping twice, didn't buy anything. That was enough shopping too! If I could talk the relatives into celebrating Christmas without buying gifts I'd do it.

I try to avoid stores as much as I can, especially if it's black friday, that I never know when it is because I don't follow the news. When I see too many cars in the entrance I usually turn around, not just because I don't like crowds, but because finding parking space is frustrating. The clothing I normally buy three of the same. I only use black, gray or white, it's easy. Also, I only buy at C&A and they are affordable enough for me not to care about promotions, I do care about other stuffs, and this is the only brand that fill my requirements: organic cotton, regular inspections against forced labor and precarious conditions, affordable prices and European brand, or better, not be American or Chinese, they both sleep in the same bed.

I used to like it when I was living with my girlfriend. I'd let her sleep and I'd stay up all night playing (Def Jam: Fight for NY). This was back when Black Friday started in the wee hours of the morning. Once her and I showed up at Target and there was this huge line going down into a neighborhood behind the store. As we were sitting in our car waiting with the heater on, I said, "What about the other door? They're going to unlock both doors, right?" So as the line was snaking into one door we walked up and entered into the other. I couldn't hear anybody complain, because they were all behind us. Haha.

I could care less about it today. Anything I want I order it on Amazon. There's no price cut in the world worth shopping at home alone in your underwear.

We call it Black Friday but it really isn't. Sweden does the usual 20% discount. Not the crazy sales the USA does. There'd never be deaths over a "Black Friday" here. Sweden hasn't quite understood the concept. That is why I say there is no Black Friday. I should've said "we have one, but it's lame". The big deal here is the Mellandagsrea.

Edit: My original comment was 2 years ago (when it was new here), and Black Friday is gaining popularity so in a few years it might be like it is the US. Poor shop workers. They're the ones who suffer sales periods.

This past Black Friday, I went shopping with a few friends. We didn't buy much. Actually, by 10 am, the stores were pretty cleared of shoppers. I did get a bunch of DVDs and 4K Ultra HD DVDs.

My online experience was that individual PC components went UP in price 20-40 bucks, with one particular set of RAM sticks dropping 20. Then they spiked back up 40 bucks. I'm still waiting for some things to average back down to normal. Weird.

I don't bother with it, i get all my chrstmas shopping in the weeks preceding it.
It's not even just on the Friday now, i've seen and heard adverts for black Friday and it lasts all weekend now. Some of them are having black friday sales that go on for 4 days! Utterly ridiculous imo.
