Morocco was more edgy against Portugal, though.

Protugal is more like 10 defenders + Ronaldo. Feels like watching Greece in 2004. If Morocco had a little bit more quality in the final third, they could have got something out of it.

Hoping Isco can score the first goal in the Iran v Spain game, got the earlier two correct (not that it was that difficult). For sure I'll have put the kiss of death on the treble now by mentioning it but hey-ho, you never know.

Iran at least are one of the better Asian sides. Not doing that bad when you consider what level of talent they are up against. But dont think they would be able to maintain it for 90 mins.

I watched the USA vs Ghana match at the last world cup at a bar. No one even stands for the national anthems. Kinda disrespectful.

Chypmunk

Glad Spain scored and made Iran try to make a game of it rather than 90 mins of sit back for a no-score draw bore. Portugal v Iran should be interesting on Monday as the boot may be on the other foot with Iran most likely needing the win to progress and Portugal able to progress with just a draw.

Iran played commendable against mighty Spain. It's a relief Spain won.

Guaporense
06-20-18, 05:19 PM
Iran showed how to play being tactically realistic given their technical inferiority they were almost able to tie which they didn't due to the referee decision (which I agree with but could be interpreted the other way).

Faildictions time....
Portugal 3 -1 Morocco
Uruguay 4 - 0 Saudi Arabia
Iran 0 - 4 Spain

I guess the islamic teams are being grossly underestimated. Spain only won thanks to referee decision today while Uruguay and Portugal won by the slightest margins.

It did – such a shame as they really deserved a draw. They had some great chances but the finishing wasn't there.

You could always balance the alleged 'gross underestimation' (by a whole single individual no less) on here of the 'Islamic teams' (not even sure why religion is being mentioned) by putting your own fun predictions up you know. Emphasis is on the word 'fun' btw in case you missed it.

Personally I'm looking to lean more toward either a Mormon or a Pagan one but as yet some of the players haven't responded to my SurveyMonkey questionnaire (by some I mean all) so it's still a bit up in the air as to who that actually might end up being

True. Portugal really defended the sh*t out of the last Euros.
But Greece was the first time I saw it in action Wasn't really born when the original Catenaccio came around.

But Spain had a hard time today. Sad for Iran, they gave them a run for their money.

I was reading Lord Sugar got into some hot water today after making some racist tweets about the Senegal team.

I am just rooting for Brazil.

A mormon team would be too busy looking for potential wives in Russia than play. Or am I just stereotyping??

Had some bets go my way to claw back some £££ last 2 days.

£5 on Russia 3-1 gave me £75.
£90 on Russia gave me £175
£40 on Portugal, Spain and Uruguay today for £100.

Lost £50 on England game though. I figured England would start badly as always so bet on 0-0, 1-0 and 1-1.

Lost another £20 or something on smaller bets in addition to my stupid £300 on Argentina to win.

So currently minus -£ 155 ish.

Ok £5 on draw, France, Croatia to return £100. Using bet credits that I got for being such a Degen.

£1 on the correct score bets above all 3 matches, returns £1000.

Also £1 on Den 1-0, Fra 1-0, Arg 2-1 returns £330.

£1 on Den 2-0, Fra 3-1, Arg 1-1 returns £940.

£1.70 on all 3 matches to draw returns £75.

possibly place more bets not sure.

Well done, best of luck with them - hopefully you can get to a position where you can hedge and lock in a nice profit in the final match if you want to.

Nice start for me too - result, correct score and 1st goalscorer all spot on means a profit today no matter what happens in the next two games and plenty of chances yet for it to grow further :)

I've bet £4.70 of my own money today so its all a free ride really.

Croatia and France wins for a nice £100, 2 more draws for £75. Even better a 2-1 for france and Croatia would be £1000, you can always dream :)

I would say good luck with your picks but that would crush my own :)

I already know I'll show a profit at the end of the tourney so any more today will merely be a bonus. Naturally I'll still be rooting for Mbappe and Aguero as the 1st goalscorers in the remaining two games and if both France and Argentina win then that's just fine and dandy by me too :)

I like that Portugal just play the way which gives them the best chance of winning. None of this play the right way or entertaining or any of that crap. Until it's not the best way for them (when Ronaldo can no longer carry the team or a couple of other players get better) then it gives them the best chance of winning a tournament.

I know it was a few days ago, but that England game was exhausting to watch. In the end, it was a sense of justice which overflowed, not relief or joy. I can't remember the last time I saw a ref so weak.

I missed most of yesterdays games, but from what little I did see and hear, it didn't sound like I missed much. Should be able to get back into the swing of things later.

Yea, all the great attackers Argentina have are useless because they don't have the service behind.

hell_storm2004
06-21-18, 05:15 PM
True. They needed a quality midfielder to ping balls forward. Their back line is weak. If a bench warming Mascherano, can still get selected at 34-35, it says something about the state of the squad.

Yeah, horrible to see the Argentina fans looking so upset at the end. You would normally expect this to be an evenly matched game.

I was thinking half way through we need a "Modric screamer" and he didn't disappoint :). I hope they go a bit further this time as I think they were out far too early in the Euros.

Argentina only just qualified for the World Cup, so yesterdays defeat wasn't a surprise. The manner of it, however, was. They just didn't look like a decent team. They've been poor defensively for years and international football is/has been for a good few years, is all about midfield, and they just don't have a good one. Messi is Messi because everything at Barca is geared to get the best out of him. Argentina isn't. There are people there who are superstars and 'won't' bend the knee to make it a team.

I'm loving it. Having been a critic of the superstar narrative over the team ethic, seeing Messi (and the other stars. Icardi isn't even in the 23 for crying out loud, that's how good they are in attack) failing because the team isn't working around him fills me with joy. Shame for him, though.

They've been poor defensively for years and international football is/has been for a good few years, is all about midfield, and they just don't have a good one. they have right ingredients, or at least few good option in midfield -like banega, biglia. I think It just how it managed. i mean to tell they got into final in latest occasions of international tournament, even though, averagely at back and central midfield they were quiet decent on recent years.

It's Just some questions for sampaoli as i think he fool himself for being too obsessed or get romantic idea by their luxury in the upfront -it more like 3-2-5- 🙃
Idk but if its me i'll just drop Cabalerolero. never be an useful player in anywhere i saw him but somehow sampaoli seems he was the only option after romero's injury -which more reliable- then take other gamble with their GK choices. Other than that why he never try good lad like frederico fazio is kinda bugging me.

Caballero was a forced choice. Romero got injured during the second last batch of international matches. He was never a good GK to begin with. Is a decent shot stopper but that's about it. Argentina has never been known for producing good GKs. I dont recall any world class ones since i started watching them during Italia 90. Its a pity!

I know. They only just qualified with an amazing player dragging them across the line. He's the only reason they qualified and yet it's the team not being a team which makes them so vulnerable.

Sadly Nigeria have scored twice, so Argentina might have a lifeline. Second goal was lovely, wasn't it?

Not if Iceland draw/lose which is likely, Iceland at -2 now anyways. Argentina must beat Nigeria and that will have them on 4 points, Nigeria 3 and Iceland 2 or 1.

It only gets entertaining if Croatia lose to Iceland which they might be incentiviced to do which will throw things up in the air a bit.

Yeah see that, but with the matches kicking off at the same time, I dont think Argentina can rest on their laurels. But yes a 1 goal win and an Iceland loss should do it. But i am not sure how motivated Croatia will be for the match now that they have already qualified.

I think croatia will do just fine. Pressure more to iceland side since they need result, they will need to play out of their comfort way

Im more worried another upset for argentina. Stat show they got upperhand with nigeria - and it show in friendly- but now situation has turn upside down since the pressure was on them

Germany is the most consistent team ever in the world cup. I guess it's because they are psychologically well prepared and they have very strong training, organization and work ethnic. Compare to Argentina which gets quickly emotional and the team collapses if they suffer a drawnback even though they have excellent players (the game with Croatia reminded me of Brazil and Germany in 2014 when Brazil also collapsed psychologically). Germany doesn't have any super exceptional players but they always play with maximum level of efficiency and never get seriously psychologically affected (if Brazil were losing 0-1 to Costa Rica I bet we would probably lose the match).

Guaporense
06-26-18, 12:14 AM
Football is a sport where even the best team has only a 60% chance of winning. Germany losing to Mexico is a rather likely event, I put the odds at 25% in Mexico winning, 55% Germany winning and 20% in a tie at that game. It's not necessarily because the German team was complacent, it's just how football is: it is very uncertain. Exceptions to uncertainty occur only when teams of vastly different power play each other such as matches involving Brazil and China or Germany and Saudi Arabia. Mexico is a very potent team it is just that they are not quite up to the level of the biggest ones but still there remains a strong possibility that they can beat then.

A part of me really wanted Argentina to go out. I do love it when a 'big' country goes out early and mixes things up a bit, but another chance to see Messi score another goal like that is more than consolation. What a fantastic goal. Might be my favourite of the tournament so far and, let's face it, there's been a few this time around.

I'm also pleased because I'd really like the final to be Belgium v France in a final I've already dubbed the 'Despite the gaffer we still made it' final. France playing Argentina next feels like a perfect semi-final for that game. Sampaoli could easily feel at home next to Deschamps and Martínez at this world cup.

I know it means nothing and they're the favourite to go on and win it, but did anyone else feel weird when they realised England had qualified before Brazil? It's not even just because of when the games were played. Just feels odd.

Hoping Germany go through and the Germany v Brazil final is still on.

I was looking at the table for the cup and it is looking like that Spain has a much more favorable stituation than Brazil has to reach the final.

If everything goes to the favorites Brazil is going to face Mexico, followed by Belgium, followed by France or Argentina followed by Spain in the final. While Spain is going to face Russia, then Croatia, then England to reach the final. So Brazil has a much harder road to cross before reaching the final than Spain. On paper Spain is already almost in the final considering all teams they have to play are regarded as vastly inferior to the teams Brazil has to play, except maybe England in semi-final vis Argentina for Brazil.

Japan 1 - 2 Poland Poland's been abysmal. They have no right to win.

VAR strikes again!
There should have been a penalty. Senegalese had the initiative and ball. VAR fail. SAD...

I felt the same way. But Danny Murphy was saying it was a great tackle. Even with VAR, the bar debate would never go way.

How can you say it was a penalty, it was a great tackle clear as day. His foot connects with the ball.

He barely touched the ball, it was still in Senegalese possession. He cut his legs more than he kicked the ball.

I'm watching again and its a fantastic tackle, he back heels the ball and prevents the possible goal. He does connect with the leg on the way through but he has to.

This is crazy. Now I can even believe that England can win this cup.
Guap, you're obviously very ill. Go and seek medical help immediately. :D

I thought it was a penalty. Saw the replay. Still thought it was a penalty. However, the last time I saw it.... I don't know if it was a different angle, whether I saw something I'd not noticed before or if Danny Murphy had brainwashed me, but I saw it as a good tackle.

At current rate Japan are out. If Columbia score, Japan are through on cards. This is a tight group.
