1. A Monster Calls

Release Date: January 1
Technically this came out in 2016 but it wasn't available in any theater near me until January so I'm counting it. This was powerful, moving, beautifully acted and directed and has so many great visual and story metaphors.
GRADE - 88/100

2. Split
https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/M/MV5BZTJiNGM2NjItNDRiYy00ZjY0LTgwNTItZDBmZGRlODQ4YThkL2ltYWdlXkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyMjY5ODI4NDk@._V1_UX182_C R0,0,182,268_AL_.jpg
Release Date: January 20
This brought back a lot of solid filmmaking elements that highlighted Shyamalan's career in his glory days. Great concept executed extremely well. Great.

Release Date: February 24
It's a bit forgettable in the long run, but I remember the amazing action/fight choreography and the outstanding cinematography.
GRADE - 78/100

4. The LEGO Batman Movie
https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/M/MV5BMTcyNTEyOTY0M15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwOTAyNzU3MDI@._V1_UX182_CR0,0,182,268_AL_.jpg
Release Date: February 10
This was comedic gold in my opinion, clever script and dialogue, vibrant action and plenty of belly laughs.
GRADE - 89/100

5. Get Out

Release Date: February 24
Fantastic thriller. I was so surprised to see such a masterfully crafted film from a newbie director. One of the most memorable horror/thrillers in recent memory.

I quite enjoyed Split.

I've heard good things about A Monster Calls and its on my watchlist.

John Wick 2 was pretty enjoyable.

Get Out was fantastic. Probably my favourite of the year so far.

Haven't seen Lego Batman but I liked The Lego Movie, so I might like that too.

Release Date: March 1
Regrettably, I'm not attached to this character cause I haven't seen any of the X-Men movies (I know, shoot me) But objectively, I admire the amazing craftsmanship of the film, the gritty action, the character driven script, and the fantastic performances.
GRADE - 88/100

7. Kong: Skull Island

Release Date: March 10
The characters were very poor and so was the plot development. Although it does have some great action and this version of King Kong was honestly great.
GRADE - 65/100

8. Beauty and the Beast
https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/M/MV5BMTUwNjUxMTM4NV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwODExMDQzMTI@._V1_UX182_CR0,0,182,268_AL_.jpg
Release Date: March 17
Disney live action films I felt were to improve the original, this one is just a literal live-action translation. So I guess that being said this one is as good as the original, but I feel obligated to take out some points due to the fact that it wasn't refreshing in any way. Beautifully made though.

9. Power Rangers

Release Date: March 22
Enjoyable film. Nothing about it is great, yet nothing about it is horrible. If you have time to watch a 2 hour film that you might enjoy for visual noise and good enough characters, you can go a lot worse than this.
GRADE - 60/100

10. Ghost in the Shell
https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/M/MV5BMzJiNTI3MjItMGJiMy00YzA1LTg2MTItZmE1ZmRhOWQ0NGY1XkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyOTk4MTM0NQ@@._V1_UX182_CR0,0,182 ,268_AL_.jpg
Release Date: March 16
Honestly, if it wasn't for the amazing visuals I would've gone insane at the movie theater. Poorly structured, forgettable plot, poor execution of an otherwise interesting concept, and subpar action sequences.
GRADE - 40/100

11. Life

Release Date: March 24
The suspense is well crafted, it has some great imagery and cool sci-fi elements. Characters are admittedly forgettable, but if the idea of multiple people trapped in a spaceship with a killer alien excites you, this is pretty much what you get.

Hey guess what, I seen one! LIFE....I thought the first act when the alien was tiny in the confinement room and then first escaped, was powerful stuff! OMG to the hand crushing scene.

I thought Logan was good but not as good as the hype. Beauty And The Beast was fine for what it was. Ghost In The Shell was pretty terrible. Fellm asleep halfway through Skull Island and had no desire to go back.

Very disappointed by Split and John Wick 2 personally. Logan was surprisingly good for what it was (not really a comic book movie fan). Loved Beauty and the Beast, will probably be my favourite of the year - nothing left in the year likely to beat it at this point anyway - and really enjoyed Life too.

Yeah, that was very well done! Great tension and a gruesome payoff!! I agree the first half is definitely the strongest part.

Yeah, I would say Logan was great, the hype wasn't a problem for me. I agree about Ghost in the Shell, I didn't go lower because there are other movies I saw later that are just unwatchable. Skull Island has a great third act, it almost makes up for the boring first couple.

That's too bad you didn't like Split, I thought it was a return to form. John Wick 2 was great when I first saw it, but I don't really have a desire to watch it again, which is why i didn't go higher. Beauty and the Beast is beautiful! Own it on bluray!

Release Date: January 11
Oh hell was this bad. It is not very often that I see a movie be so misguided and cheap. Everything that can go wrong in a bad horror film goes wrong x100. The only reason I'm not giving this a 0 is because of a great opening scene and an interesting first act.

What felt natural and fresh the first time, felt forced on the second run. The movie didn't even have a plot for about 45 minutes. It was a step down from the first, but it still offers great character moments, and fantastic action.

The 'Alien' part of this movie was fantastic:gritty, dark, suspenseful, and exciting. The 'Prometheus' part just really brought the movie down. Beautiful film to look at regardless.

The pacing was such a huge problem. The movie had a few exciting moments and a great third act but it was really hard to get invested in those great moments because everything that came before it was sooooo slow.

Fantastic action sequences, the way they handled the character of Diana was perfect, I love the connection they pull off between the amazonians and humanity. Overall a fantastically directed comic-book film.

This movie looks absolutely breathtaking. The horror elements are highly intriguing and I actually found this to be much better than a lot of the reviews. I highly recommend this, it is very independent and weird. Final act was a bust though.

Great horror/thriller. Intense, slow, but well paced. The trailers make this movie seem like something entirely different so if you are going to watch go in blind. I think this is a great horror/survival film with excellent direction and performances.

This was an interesting concept that could've paved the way to some rich storytelling and some great social commentary on the worst parts of humanity. However, it just throws the potential away to deliver a semi-fun, thoughtless slasher film.

While the Cars franchise is easily the worst thing to come out of the studio's track record, this movie was pretty good following the abomination of the second film. While nowhere near close Pixar's best work, it gets points for actually trying to craft a story with care.

I thought this was fantastic. It combined great elements from comic book films and coming-of-age stories and breathed new life into it by placing it in a high school setting. The way they handled the character of Peter Parker was flawless and the villain was also (surprisingly) handled fantastically well.

This film floored me. Amazing action sequences, great central story, the character of Baby is fantastic, mentioning the fantastic soundtrack in this movie is pretty much an obvious at this point. Cute. This is not going to go down as a gem, but if you have some time and you want to be charmed and entertained, this movie does the job. Just the fact that three of the most iconic Hollywood actors share the same screen is enough for encouragement. Michael Kane driving Morgan Freeman on a shopping cart is still hilarious.

I've been beyond dissapointed with the "crude comedies" we've been getting these last few years. But this one is hilarious. The studio that made Power Rangers did so because the Divergent series was loosing money. They were going to make a fourth Divergent film, because the first two did well, but the third one did so poorly that they abandoned the franchise and did Power Rangers instead. I haven't seen Power Rangers, as it interests me about as much as stepping on a rusty nail.

Please tell me you've at least seen the original Ghost in the Shell movie. And please also watch Angel's Egg, Patlabor, and Avalon.

I thought this was great! Excellent direction, outstanding performance from Jennifer Lawrence, who left me with my jaw-dropped. The first two acts do a fantastic job at combining a plot with metaphors, in the third act however, I felt like it got too reliant with metaphors and it just lost its coherence (even if it was excellently shot). The silly moments from IT aren't for everyone, but for me they elevate the movie! They reminded me of the classic 80s horror absurdities like Dream Warriors and Gremlins. Granted I wasn't alive back then, but I still grew up with a lot of 80s horror.

Reviews were overwhelmingly positive for this sequel to the 1982 classic. I liked the original well enough, but not enough to rush out and see this new film. Even the trailers didn't do much for me. Though there wasn't much excitement in my part to see this, the film has fantastic sci-fi, jaw-dropping cinematography, interesting complexities within a story, which mostly overshadow its pace.

The sci-fi is outstanding, the best sci-fi is one that solidifies itself in the world, and never feels too flashy. This movie executes the latter flawlessly as the world around the characters feels grounded, yet fantastical. The cinematography is probably the best I've seen all year, mostly relying on wide shots with striking color palettes. The story is definitely not to the point, which I appreciate, the many turns keep this movie interesting and complex, a thinkers movie in other words. The gripe i have with the film is the pace, it definitely didn't need to be a near 3 hour film, for a while the movie had very good footing, but in the transition from the second act to the third, it dragged.

As a Pixar fan, it has been soul damaging walking out of their recent offerings with barely positive reviews. Inside Out was the last film I would consider fantastic, everything post 2010 has been underwhelming to say the least. So I and many other people have looked at Coco as the last glimmer of hope before discarding PIxar as just any other animation studio. So how was it?

Fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. Apart from the fact that this film is an extremely accurate representation of the Mexican culture, I would like to point out how well constructed it is. The narrative is structured very particularly and it felt like I was watching something new from Pixar. The Pixar formula is present, and the film finds the perfect balance of offering something new, while bathing it in something we are so familiar with and so fond of. Coco is emotionally rich and unapologetically mature; this time exploring the themes of death, remembrance, and family bonds; doing so with warmth and grace. The film does something I haven't seen Pixar do before, and it gives you a dissjointed story you have to piece together, and once you get to the end, the result is emotionally fulfilling. Overall, this movie did not disappoint. It is uplifting, heartwarming, poignant, beautiful, complex and a fantastic new entry into Pixar's near-flawless filmography.

The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre released in 1974 impacted audiences all over the world and added much needed fuel to the slasher franchise craze started by Hitchcock's Psycho. With every new entry in this franchise, this story has become insufferable. The 2003 remake being the only decent spot in a slate of horrendous sequels. How did this prequel hold up?

I would say it gets halfway there. Nearly not as bad as the worst in the franchise, but also not nearly as good as the best. The main problem is the characters, they are all insufferable. Even the characters that we are supposed to "root for" are written in such a way that they don't give you reasons to care for their survival; if anything the main female lead kinda got there, but not the extent I was hoping for. The film is also brutal, it contains some truly gut twisting visuals. While this is something to expect from a movie like this, it exceeds a line were it fails to reach the mainstream like the first 1974 classic. This was an overall very decent effort, I can tell that whoever directed this cared about the material, and they somewhat establish the Leatherface character quite well, but it's just unnecessary and tiring at this point.

Once every few months comes a movie that is just so bad that you have to watch it; but you have to watch it illegally because you don't want to give your money to the kind of people who put together a film like this for a quick buck, so I waited until now. After a long streak of animated success, it was just a matter of time before we got a new stinker.

This film is just lifeless; I know it's colorful, and flamboyant, but even then it just feels like a zombie. The world building is so uninspired and they never take it anywhere interesting; for a movie like this I was hoping that at least they could do something cool with the world building; I was wrong. But we did get to see a bunch of product placement and viral memes on Youtube! Yay? The film takes elements from some of the better recent animated flicks like Wreck It Ralph and Inside Out and just absolutely poops on them. Even its dumb and simplistic plot has so many holes. Dialogue is horrendous. I'm not going to give this movie a 0 for the mere fact that it kind of entertained me seeing how bad it was.

Thor was never my favorite Avenger, not even close. And the Thor movies were underwhelming under Marvel's belt to say the least. However, with the genius comedic timing of Taika Waititi, this was the best chance to breathe new life to Thor's character and the Marvel Cinematic Universe overall. It is exactly this that makes Thor: Ragnarok a fresh addition to a formula that was starting to grow a bit tired.

Essentially, this picture is unapologetically fun from beginning to end, not once did I feel like the pace was lacking. This film, more so than any other Marvel offering, disregards the overwhelming pressure of constructing a perfect narrative, and just absolutely goes for the blockbuster fun with comedic undertones, and it delivers. The latter also surprisingly triggers a cohesive narrative, and one that finally injects the Thor world with some interesting background. The comedy in this film is spot on, it feels like a Marvel movie in the sense that they go for a lot of laughs, but Waitii constructs this particular offering in a way that even this aspect feels fresh, as opposed to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2, which just felt forced. Overall, this is one of Marvel's absolute best popcorn flicks. While my favorite Marvel films are the ones that mix the lightheartedness with dramatic themes (Winter Soldier, Civil War), this is charming and exciting new ground for Marvel.

This film is another very good, yet soon forgettable entry in the year. I really don't have much to say about this, given that it is only one paragraph long as opposed to two. The directing was solid enough, but the tone is wildly inconsistent, sometimes it goes for lighthearted humor and others it wants to build on drama, but none never feel consequential due to the odd way both are mixed. Tom Cruise is great as always, however, the writing around his character wasn't bad per se, but it wasn't particularly interesting either; they didn't take his arc anywhere interesting. Overall, I was very entertained so I can't go negative, and I did find some sequences to be exciting and well directed.

Despite lukewarm reviews, I really enjoyed the first Bad Moms film and was charmed by it. My excitement for this was nonexistent but my curiosity was. I think this sequel has a handful of shortcomings, mostly found in the script, but in the end I found the comedy mostly effective and the characters charming.

Initially, the characters I found to be well realized. The comedy sometimes did feel a little forced and a bit out of the film's element, but it is the dialogue comedy that works the best. The film also tries to amplify some of its more dramatic beats, and it gets halfway there. Overall, while this is technically a very bumpy movie, I personally had a very fun time watching this and found the charming characters to shadow some of the film's most glaring flaws.

The DCEU is obviously not in the healthiest place right now. I absolutely love Wonder Woman, but Batman V Superman is average at best and Suicide Squad is a complete disaster. I would say that the DCEU's new offering, Justice League, does leap above the studio's weakest offerings, but it never really reaches a height that the most optimistic people would like to see.

From a narrative perspective, Justice League has faults. It is not a hot mess thank goodness, but it's also not memorable either, it is left at an awkward place, which should never be the case for a movie of this scheme. The writing is inconsistent at best, dialogue can be very passable, and other times very on-the-nose and awkwardly placed. The villain was a joke, there's no way of getting around that. Now that the most essential faults are out of the way, I would like to pinpoint that Justice League did the most important thing correctly, and that is the assemble of the characters. Every single member of the Justice League was used appropriately and the interactions between these said characters was great to see play out on screen. The action sequences were exciting and a visual feast. While I would say that Justice League still can't seem to get rid of some of the problems the DCEU has, I would still recommend it for pure fun and enjoyment. And overall, this picture generally got me excited to see more of these characters, were as the former films did not.

You will have a hard time finding another film this holiday season that will uplift your spirit as well as this film does. The protagonist played by Jacob Tremblay is fantastic, he is just the right amount of strong and vulnerable, but it never gets to a sappy point. The writing, particularly in the dialogue, is very strong, and as a result, the characters served each of their respective roles as effectively as possible. This film does not strive to achieve cinematic perfection, the directing is solid at best, the cinematography isn't really mind-blowing, and the performances are not Oscar caliber, and I feel like this is the reason the picture works as well as it does. It's simplistic story and colossal heart carry this movie beyond most movies I've seen in the past couple of months. and I was charmed the entire way through.

Release Date: November 3

Come Oscar season, there are always the handful of films towards the end of the year that truly highlight the beauty of storytelling and filmmaking, and Lady Bird might be the one. This is a coming of age film told masterfully with a giant sense of realism, fantastic dialogue, and Cultural Relativism.

Lady Bird is a fantastic protagonist, she is just the right amount of rebellious, likable, and passionate to solidify herself as someone who is ultimately very easy to get behind. Gerwig directs the hell out of this film, like the best coming of age flicks, she uses the naivety of one's teen self to propel the story in very interesting places, and the outcome is fantastic at the end. The film is hilarious when it needs to be, as well as dramatic in the right moments. The final result is bittersweet, just as it should be. The supporting characters are fantastic as well, and each and every one of them serve a perfect purpose to trigger a specific impact in Lady Bird's life. And lastly, the movie just feels so real, oftentimes It felt like I was actually watching a documentary of this girl going through her life, because this is right on! It never reaches for emotional extremes too great to overdramatize the narrative, it is kept simple, sweet, and I was living for it! If you have a chance to check this out, absolutely do so, it is everything that a Coming of Age flick should be and more.

Release Date: November 10

This is one of the most interesting projects to come in the year. I haven't seen a film go out if it's way to execute morally complex character arcs to this extent in a while. First and foremost, the protagonist is unarguably the best female lead I've seen all year. (and in a world were Wonder Woman came out a few months ago, this says a lot) The script is clustered with amazing pieces of dialogue and character interactions.

This movie delves deep into the psyche of different characters who are directly connected to the case, and the film goes out of its way to execute the latter with complexity, thrills, and ambiguity, by the end of the film, I was left amazed at all turns the characters underwent, and It all felt seamless. If I had one complaint, there was a rough patch of 20-ish minutes around the second half of the film, It felt like the film struggled a little bit with its pace. But this was not large enough to hurt the film, or to bring down the score significantly. Overall, this is not only a fantastically executed drama, with fantastic characters, well-realized dialogue, great comedic undertones, and edge-of-your seat sequences, but it is also an amazing exploration on how flexible a "good" person's actions can get before being labeled as morally wrong.

This film was definitely one of the more enjoyable experiences I've had in the theater all year; I laughed consistently. The film also does a great job at separating the hilarity of poking fun of the atrocious film, The Room while also validating the creator of the film. This is what ultimately makes this film such a great one, it earns so many points for not just taking the easy comedic route, but for elevating the narrative by exploring the more human aspects of such an interesting story.

Like mentioned, I laughed consistently, more than I normally do, the comedic circumstances are character driven, and handled with care. The film is also very insightful. The Room is a film that has one of the most interesting inceptions in cinematic history, and this new offering definitely delivered in combining a true story with a narrative, and I was entertained from beginning to end. There is also warmth to be found as the film essentially focuses on the friendship brewing between Tommy and Greg, and it is done so well that it basically propels the entire movie forward. The latter also explores how overwhelming pursuing a dream in the film industry can be, and it resonated very loud with me in that aspect. Overall, this film is very great, it is hilarious, insightful, and heartwarming, and ultimately a film that any person who appreciates the art and process of filmmaking should definitely check out.

It's been 20 hours since I have seen this, and I can already see how much this film is dividing fans. As a fan myself, I can say that I honestly loved this movie. Hours after coming out of the theater I was so overwhelmed, there is just so much to dissect in this film, and I wanted to wait a while to let my feelings age rightfully. While the critic in me sees a flawed film with many great moments, the fan in me sees a great film with a couple of flaws.

To get a few of the negatives out of the way, I will first point out that the runtime was a problem, 20-30 minutes could've been easily shaven off, and there is one particular storyline that in the end didn't add anything to the film whatsoever. Secondly, I thought that the climax could've been better realized, I felt like it struggled a little bit thematically, and it felt short at bringing everything full circle. And lastly, while some of the humor landed right with me, a couple of moments did feel very out of left field and awkward. Other than that, I personally think this film is fantastic. Essentially, it does so much to feel like a unique Star Wars experience, and Johnson definitely took a handful of risks. I love bold filmmaking, and this picture delivered, it plays so much with the mythology of my beloved franchise and does so many unexpected things with it. Not every choice sat right with me, but there wasn't a particular one that outraged me. (One towards the end confused the hell out of me though)

I also think that the characterization is the most interesting ever in a Star Wars film. I love my original trilogy so much, but admittedly, it never tries much to challenge our characters' psyche, at least not when compared to this new film. The character of Kylo Ren is one of the most interesting and fleshed out villains in recent memory, he might even be my favorite character in this new trilogy. There are a great deal of moments in this film were the visual spectacle was so great that my jaw dropped. Call it fan service if you will, but I'm a fan, and I enjoy being serviced. Overall, I think this film will definitely not sit well for every Star Wars fan, but it will at least trigger interesting conversations among some of us. For me, while a couple of issues did bother me, mostly with pacing, inconsistency, and a struggling climax, I still regard this as a fantastic Star Wars experience. With bold storytelling, a narrative that challenges the audience, complex and edge-of-your-seat characterization, and jaw-dropping moments, this is a movie that left the inner Star Wars fan in me happy.

This will also fall as another very entertaining, yet soon forgettable entry in the year. There really isn't much to say about this film. Let's see.... the only thing I would consider truly wonderful in this is the fight choreography, it was exemplary. A lot of unbroken shots surrounding some gripping action truly elevate the movie a great deal for me. Protagonist was very likeable and easy to get behind, and I was very invested in her story. However, the entire thing surrounding her mission was under explained and I was a little confused. Overall, I would recommend this is a discardable watch, the action sequences are good enough for that.

Yeah, it's not hard to see why this movie is getting so much acclaim, everything about it is so well realized from a filmmaking perspective that the film has actually stayed with me since I saw it couple of weeks ago. The most admirable thing is how well this film handles the romance; it feels real, in the moment, and never too dramatized to the point of falling into absurdity. The cinematography was also a stand out as well as both performances from both stars. The film also delivers one of the most real and impactful endings in recent memory. It just captures the sense of exploration and inevitability of something ending flawlessly. With a fantastic Italian scenery, tight writing, exemplary direction, and a grounded and realistic romance that never feels too over-dramatic, this film stands out as one of the better and more memorable Oscar contenders.

Overall, I would say this was an extremely enjoyable experience at the theater. Just to get a couple of negatives out of the way, I think that for the rules established in the film's logic, it does fall into some plot holes that did make me scratch my head, this does take significant points away as it was the result of some lazy writing that could've been easily fixed by tweaking a thing or two. I also found the first few minutes to have very forced exposition, I get that we need to learn about these characters as quickly as possible to make the adventure resonate, but the writing could have been better realized.

All that being said, this might as well be one of the most surprising films of the year, I really was not anticipating this film at all, and when the first trailer came out I thought it looked like garbage, I came out very pleased. The film plays with the idea of intellectual beings going through a real life video game with simulations and rules, while the latter did create some of the film's louder plot holes, it did also provide some moments I felt were clever. The characters all work very well, at least in the long run, the action sequences were nice, the comedy was also effective enough, and overall this is a film I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. This was definitely not a flawless blockbuster but definitely one that was worthwhile.

This is probably the film which feels the most real I've seen all year, not that it's the best, but it does feel like a plotless series of events, and it is about as well executed as a film of this nature could be. Throughout the entirety of this film, I felt like I was watching real life play out right before my eyes, it puts you in a specific situation normally not regarded much, and does a good job analyzing it from certain perspectives. The film also does a solid job at establishing surprisingly complete enough characters to were one may understand their actions. The characters are all mostly despicable, and even though they each get a few moments to shine, none of them won me over in the end. Overall, I will go high on this considering how good the craftsmanship is, although I do prefer films with more narrative presence.

Guillermo del Toro directed what may be my favorite movie of all time in 2006's Pan's Labyrinth, so naturally I was very excited for his new project seeing as it was acclaimed as Del Toro's return to form ever since it's production started. It took it a while to start showing were I am from, but I can say that this is definitely a Top 3 film of the year.

Del Toro is known for combining beauty and darkness to extreme success, and this film, like Pan's Labyrinth, is the best example of his work. First off, this movie has shots that will be permanently engraved in my mind. The love story was deeply affecting, and amplified to great extremes through Sally Hawkins' breathtaking performance; Del Toro just executes the idea of a lonely person finding completion in the most comfortable place so flawlessly. The plot progression is also intense and every scene amplifies the drama, i was in the edge of my seat. There aren't many specifics I want to address, just the fact that I thought this film was incredible in every way: the craftsmanship, the characters, the love story, Del Toro excels as a filmmaker through this gripping, and deeply affecting story,

I can see why Spielberg fast tracked production of this film, as you will have a hard time finding anything more socially relevant in the current political climate. Just to get the best things out of the way, seeing Meryl Streep sharing the same screen with Tom Hanks was fantastic. The directing by Spielberg was obviously also noteworthy, as he injects the warmth and wonder that resides in most of his films in this political drama. The mixture surprisingly works, even if it feels a bit out of the film's element in certain key moments. I will say though, that the first 45ish minutes of the film were very hard for me to get into, it moves at a snails pace when introducing our characters and the working enviroment they are in. However, once the main storyline begins, I was gripped for the rest of the film's runtime. It was tense, smart, informative, and I was in the edge of my seat. From the director to the actors, this may seem as one of the most Oscar-bait films of the year, and while it may not be my first choice to win Best Picture, I wouldn't be opposed to seeing it on the nominees list.

The best thing I can say about this film, is that it will undoubtedly give Margot Robbie attention for Best Actress, and rightfully so, as she delivers the intensity of her role as effectively as the more vulnerable moments. It is also always fascinating to see the alleged true story of a the rise and fall of a public figure, and the way they weaved the interviews with the narrative was rather clever. This film excels the greatest as a character study, we are treated to specific moments in Tonya's career which directly affected every decision, and I was ultimately very invested in her character. There are a few moments in which the film breaks the fourth wall with a very satirical undertone and none of these moments really worked for me. Overall, this film is as effective with pathos as it is informative, and I would definitely look into this for Margot Robbie's performance alone.

This was very fun and entertaining! It's not going to go down as one of the greats, and it's definitely not the freshest movie ever made but I did not have the desire to check the clock once in this movie. Charming, funny(surprisingly), well-acted, very well edited, very fun slumber party movie. Ending was a little "meh", but I'll take what I can get after the death of slasher films.

GRADE - 75/100

Wait, they still make these?

Thanks for writing this review. I'm curious to see what 2017 has for this genre.

They still make slashers! However, most of them have trouble reaching the mainstream, or reaching almost anyone. This one was quite good! I also heard the Babysitter was decent, hopefully I can check it out soon.

I've seen the Babysitter, even left a review of it, but if you happen to read it - it's coming from this mentality:

I used to watch slashers, not for the blood, but for the atmosphere. I've always felt that I was robbed of a cabin in the woods childhood. Campfires, ghost stories, and a little hanky panky out behind the baseball park dugout.

Just red your review! It's quite mixed, I hope I have a more enjoyable time with it, but you and I seem to have similar tastes. If I end up seeing it I'll post a review here as well

I may be a bit tempermental when watching movies. You know, if the cocoa isn't exactly the right temperature, or if I've run out of blue chips...high maintenance! ;P

Well, I'm totally kidding but if I said that beforehand I wouldn't be able to make myself barely laugh at all. LOL

I may not rate things too roughly, but hell are the ratings very specific. I can never round! :D

Allow me to say the same thing everybody has been saying, Gary Oldman was incredible in this, I can't see a world were he doesn't win the Oscar for Best Lead Actor; I don't know if the film would even be half as good without him. As a political drama, this did a better job than most at keeping me glued the entire way through. It may be the fantastic cinematography with exceptional lighting techniques, or the very intriguing historical atmosphere used to propel the story forward, or it may just be all thanks to Gary Oldman's electrifying performance. It's been a week since I've seen this film, and I can't really think of any flaws. So even though I didn't have a personal connection, I really appreciate the craftsmanship of this feature.

Yes, G-Oldman was the movie. I dont think I've ever been so captivated by one actor in a film.

I thought this was great! I enjoyed myself quite a bit watching this film. It does a better job than most at blending horror with character humor, and there were a couple of instances I actually laughed out loud. I also really liked all of the characters, the directing was so tight it allowed every character to get their moment. The premise is also very fun, it's reminiscent of some of the 80s slasher films were you could really just sit back, and really enjoy yourself. The dialogue is very effective as well for the comedic undertones in this film, some lines I thought were very funny, even clever sometimes. Very charming, highly recommend it.
