"It looks like another gritty comic book adaptation is destined for the small screen, with streaming giant Amazon having now picked up the small screen adaptation of Garth Ennis’ The Boys.
Aiming to “out Preacher” Preacher, Ennis and Transmetropolitan‘s Darick Robertson ran The Boys comic for an impressive 72 issues from 2006-2012. Focussing on a world where superheroes exist, “The Boys” were a covert group of CIA superheroes who were tasked with keeping the other heroes in check. With some corrupted by their own ego and celebrity status, it is up to the small group of dysfunctional lads to battle the power and perils of spandex supes.
Originally destined for Cinemax, Variety reports that Amazon has taken over the rights and ordered the one-hour pilot for The Boys from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. To add to the talent, Supernatural writer Eric Kripke is writing the pilot, while The Boys is expected to go straight to a full-series order.
Roughly set in the mid-noughties, The Boys balanced the perfect blend of anti-heroes and villains that modern TV viewers have come to expect – but will the show find another Walter White for everyone to love? With its uncompromising violence and sexual nature, The Boys is one of the most violent additions to the genre and ranks up there with the likes of Transmetropolitan and The Authority. Rogen and Goldberg’s involvement was announced back in 2016, so it is great to see that there is finally some movement on the show."

A friend got me into this, on volume 5 at the moment
Don't know why, but I've got Josh Helman in my head to play Butcher, not sure if he could pull off cockney if they take that route though
They’ve cast members of the Seven already, with Antony Starr as Homelander which is odd because Starr is perfect for Billy Butcher.

Hughie's the casting to watch for, Simon Pegg is a wee bit too old now I think

Make sure you read Herogasm, the first mini-series. The other mini's aren't really that important but Herogasm is.

Just finished it, I'm really curious how the flying scenes will look for this. That and how Terror will be used if at all

Me too! But it's a great choice, loved his take on Dredd and McCoy so I have no fears of this being effed up

I was just married to the idea of a Vinnie Jones type playing him.

My bud that introduced me to the comic said the same, a 90's Vinnie. Craig Fairbrass and Ray Stevenson were mentioned too but I never thought they'd aim so high with it

Of course, it's an automatic relation to the character. Performance always outweighs the look

Starting now! Been looking forward to this for so long!!!!!
Edit: 4 episodes done, boy there are SO many changes it's almost completely different to the comics but in a way that's a good thing, the surprises are worth it. I'll wait til end of season to judge it as a whole but enjoying it so far

All done, wow! Really shocked and confused at how many changes there were and where it's gonna go but I'm annoyed that I gotta wait a whole year to find out!!!
I thought it was great, not perfect, but thoroughly enjoyable. Urban's accent jumps from cockney to kiwi often but it only annoyed me a little because I was specifically listening out for it, but he is awesome as usual. Anthony Starr as Homelander is the standout for me but everyone is pretty great in this

Upto episode 5 and I’m really enjoying this series.
Nice timing, I literally finished the first season last week. Pretty solid. I feel like it doesn't entirely know what it wants its tone to be like (it alternates between super grimdark and Tarantino-ish comical violence). But, pretty good so far, well made, and could go in lots of interesting directions. Definitely in for the next season.

I really like how you described it as Tarantino-ish comical violence. I was trying to explain to one of my friends what it’s like, and I just couldn’t sell it to him.

After watching the first series, I went and read the conics it was based on. The violence was even worse and indeed, comical at times. Especially what they do to Starlight in the comics, which isn’t that different from the show.
Some ludicrous moments in the comics for sure

I'm gonna watch it again before season 2 drops. I'm in til the end though, probably gonna have my days off from work coincide with the release date and binge it
First 3 episodes of season 2 appear to be out. After watching the recap, I'm gonna need to revisit season 1 first.

I'd really prefer to binge season 2, 3 episodes just isn't enough, maybe the weekly suspense will grow on me as I enjoyed it on other series.
But loving it so far!
Started watching this; we are about 5 episodes in on season 1. Good so far!

Love this show. Enjoying the second season so far. Homelander is just all sorts of menacing as usual. Stormfront adds an extra layer of tension amongst the team.
Love the show and they dont seem to have fallen off any in season 2.

I can't see Herogasm being next week, that would have me questioning reality

Just finished watching season 1. Loved it. Had a few issues with the way they handled the Compound V thing - you know, they could have been a bit more discreet. It's like, loads of people already know about it (guards, parents, etc) and yet it's a secret.
Apart from that, everything else was good. Especially the dark humour. Loved it.
On a side note, I was confused to see Simon Peg in a small, rather insignificant role, until I discovered that Hugie from the comics looks like him. So, basically that's just smart casting.

I'm about to start season 2. LOVE the GNs, and liked season 1 (was disappointed there was no Terror, though). Bingewatched season 1 last night instead of just watching the recap.
Halfway through season 2. This show is so comically violent.

Billy Butcher's dog, seen more in the comics. I'd given up hope on him being in the series at all.
Edit: apparently he appeared briefly in season 1. I can't believe I don't remember.

Just watched a vid and apparently the original plan was to do 5 seasons. Hope that works out.
From what I can tell, this is already wildly different than the comics, yeah? I was reading some summaries and it seems pretty distinct, to the point where I wonder if reading the comics would even spoil much.

Yeah, one youtuber I watched was saying that where season 2 ended is sort of where the comics begin. Not sure how true that is. Doubt I'll ever read it.

Apparently the reason Terror doesn't feature so much is because it's hard to do green screen stuff with animals, especially since Terror was pretty much always with Butcher.

I finished watching season 2. They gave the other characters a lot more to do here than just the main ones. I bet Cindy has a bigger role to play in the next seasons, and is maybe related to 'you know who'. I haven't read the comics so I don't know.
Overall just good fun to watch from start to end. Looking forward to season three.
And yes, Terror was a star.
PS: Was anyone else amused by Shawn Ashmore playing Lamplighter, considering who he was in X-Men?
