The Larger avatars issue

Ok, take it from someone who has done ALOT of avs in his day. 100x100 size is more standard, but I say the best of both worlds is 100x100 and 20k file size. The last site I was on had 100x100 and 10k file size, and if you'll notice the av I have now along with all the avs on my website are all under 10k. If you would do the 100x100 and 20k, or even 15k, I'd be happy to add avatars to your gallery until everyone gets their own up and running. Just let me know if you'd like to think about it.

As for the signature files, I wouldn't take them away completely but 1 image at a certain file size, say 15k-20k again, should be sufficient. I love being able to have a banner to my site in my signature, but too many large pics slow things down. If you can regulate it somehow and ask people to keep the size down that might help.

I've owned, co-owned, administered, co-administered, moderated, and mentored for many forums over the last few years, and our current avatar settings are definitely among the more lenient I've come across in that time. I'd be willing to consider expanding them further, but honestly, can't any 100x100 avatar be very easily re-sized to 90x90 without losing much in the way of clarity?

I'm sure it can, just a suggestion. This site is definately lenient in the way of avatars, I'm just pointing out what I've seen on the bigger sites out there.

I agree that 100x100 is better. I couldn't upload my own Freddy avatar without the assistance of Yoda because the size went over by something x92. I see 100x100 limits in more places. It's easy to find premade avatars that way.

Well, as far as benefits go they are just nicer to look at. Larger than 100x100 is not necessary. It's not my forum though, and if 90x90 is what Yoda wants there's nothing wrong with that at all, just a suggestion. If anyone needs help with avs let me know, resizing can be tricky sometimes and so can file size. :)

Not offended in the least, and your suggestions are most definitely welcome.

Any other opinions on the matter? I'm open to increasing the size limitations if there's enough support for the idea. In the meantime, though, I'd be glad to make exceptions for most of the people who ask. If you'd like, DRA, you could simply email me a 100x100 avatar and I'd be willing to upload it for you. I simply sleep a little easier at night if I know there's less chance for abuse, so I'm not really averse to bending things a bit for people who seem on the level. :)

Kong thinks the avatars look just fine as they are. The size seems generous enough, and it's easy to identify individual posters by their avatars.

I absolutely despise large avatars, honestly. This site has the best policy on avatars as it is, I don't think it should be changed.
