oh dear

what would i do without electricity...for one i wouldnt be on here now. i would be in bed. which is where i should be as i have to get up early for work. no tv. no work! omg....ok so i wouldnt have to be in bed because the tills at work wouldnt work. and the lights in the shop wouldnt work either. ok so ive found one good thing about there being a huge power cut in essex. i guess i would just have to read a book of which i have many. or replay a good film in my head. or look at the posters on my wall. tidy my room. wash my clothes. go on a picnic. the food would all be gone off though wouldnt it.

well....i could go on like this forever...jsut spilling out my thoughts as they occur but i think i will still come to the same conclusion that i started with. without power there wouldnt be a hell of a lot to do and the food would be off. fruit and bread for breakfast lunch and dinner....i dont have a problem with that though.

I talked to a friend of mine in New York tonight and she just got her power back on about 10 p.m. eastern time… she was at work when the power went off and waited around for a couple of hours to see what was going on but as soon as she found out the extent of the outage, she decided to start walking home… it took her nine hours to get there…

And they are still arguing about what even caused the outage the last I heard…

could it be the heat. heat seems to break stuff. there were some water pipes in the ground (obviously) which burst from the heat the other day.

That power cut was seriosly wierd... How can a country like the U.S not know what happens when one of its biggest and most popular cities suddenly switches off?

The whole time i was reading SC's new reports i kept imagining that perhaps they do know what caused the power cut but its too weird to let the world know. Like in "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" when the big spaceships make all the power go off. That would be waaaaaaaaaaay cooler if New York had lost its power due to aliens or a big radioactive dinosaur living in the sewers. New Yorks a strange old place :yup: Imagine Time Square with the lights off

There are dinosaurs living under New York... and one of them plugged up a dinosaur sized electric vibrator and set it to the highest speed. ZAP!

no that was me.

Have they figured out yet was caused the outage? Canada and the US seemed to blame each other last time I checked, but I haven't read the news on it in a few days.

Now it appears South London has had a power outtage today. Strange coincidences indeed.

yup - it's coming back online now. Smaller scale for a smaller country, but we're pretty disorgansed/deregulated/uncooperative in our approach to power organisation too. (tho i'm not sure we have energy-movement-"specialist" companies like Enron tho. I think its more coordinated between a few monopolies - which kinda works. The infrastructure hasn't had any investment for ages tho according to the london mayor etc) -

EDIT: The power cut lasted half an hour. There is a "national grid company" that oversees the infrastructure apparently. Experts on the news are saying privatisation is the central problem.
