In one of the more beautiful scenes in "Dunkirk", Dir. Christopher Nolan creates an overhead/tracking shot of a WWII RAF Spitfire gliding with the engine off over the beach of Dunkirk. In the IMAX format you will never see a more artistic moment of film making. I gasped at how wonderful it was to just enjoy this cinema tour de force. If you are planning to see this film, please see it in IMAX format. All pistons in this movie engine are giving maximum performance. The actors, especially Fionn Whitehead (in photo) give moving and understated screen performances. The script & direction from Christopher Nolan are indeed Oscar worthy and beautifully rendered to the screen. My one irritation was the omnipresent Hans Zimmer score (the sound design at IMAX is as engulfing as a large wave crashing into your body) which filled in for the spare screenplay. Let me say that I have seen almost every war movie ever made (especially WWII films) and "Dunkirk" will rank high, not only in the pantheon of the war movie genre, but stands , as well, as one of the finest films ever made. See it. See it at IMAX.
