An interesting little caper from 1992., this is a story of a Texan guy (Nicolas Cage) who is mistaken for a hired gun somewhere in Wyoming and has to liquidate certain Wayne's (JT Walsh) wife (Lara Flynn Boyle). He can't do it though, so instead of killing her, he explains her the whole situation and they decide to try and escape - but then numerous twists occur, and oh, the real hitman also pops up (played marvellously by Dennis Hopper), causing even more commotion.

I caught this on TV yesterday and watched it bit-part, but more than enough to get the whole picture. Cage and Hopper are the choice cuts here, esp. the latter who has a field day playing a Texan psycho. Plot has some holes from what I noticed but who cares, this film plays well and it's good entertainment, all summed up.

Directed by John Dahl (Unforgettable, Rounders, Joyride), this film made debut on the cable TV initially...but outgrew it.

My grade : B

Big fan of this lesser discussed piece of noir thriller celluloid.

This ranks as one of my fave Nic Cage films and Dennis Hopper is also in top form as this noir style thriller unfolds. Moody music and dark cinematography create an atmosphere of mystery. The story (Which Oliver Stone later reworked as U-TURN) is full of twist and turns, memorable charecters whose motives are not clear and ofcourse a nice helping of sexual tension.

Director John Dahl (who made thre modern noir gem THE LAST SEDUCTION) obviously knows the genre inside out. With a confident hand each scene is a piece to the puzzle and stand alone entertainment.
