Legalizing weed would be ok. Also having those hospital where addicts can use clean heroin and needles would be pretty beneficial to society.

I think drug use in Portugal has gone down... None of my Dutch friends (late 40s) have even tried pot, and it's everywhere in Holland.
I don't even think Jeff Sessions will put a stop to the marihuana -- too many people rely on the money now.

I work in a hospital, i certainly don't wanna see 'smack heads' shooting up and taking up valuable hospital beds doing so.

What makes you think they would need the beds?

Legalizing weed would be ok...It's legal in my state for 21+... both medical and recreational use and it's sold everywhere in special stores, much like liquor stores.

The laws differ A LOT depending where you live. Don't think it's legal in Ireland.

I'm all for legalizing and / or regulating all drugs.
That doesn't mean anyone could just sell or distribute drugs (just like it's illegal right now to sell liquor on the street without a license or sell to minors, etc.) Driving under the influence would still be illegal, of course.
Every piece of research has shown that the "war on drugs" only created more crime, increased the demand & flow of illegal drugs, overwhelmed the legal / justice system, and punished those with substance addiction problems (rather than helping them).
What makes you think they would need the beds?
Did you miss a word out then in your previous post? Sounds like you're all for drug takers to be allowed to take their own drugs in hospital?

I'm not even going to get involved in this argument.

Argument?? You're entitled to your opinion just like i'm entitled to mine. In my opinion hospital beds are for sick people, drug takers and alcoholics should be treated in places that cater for them.

I agree with you. There is really no other way considering how widespread the use is drugs is now all through every level of society. I'm always surprised that people who take recreationally drugs have no idea what they're putting into their bodies (the addicted are too far gone to care). I'll bet they're the ones who shout the loudest for "bio" products too. I've never tried a single drug in my life precisely because of the fear that I don't know what''s in it.
Drugs need to be legalized, licenced and then taxed to high heaven.

Aside from that, police don't need any more power.

I've never tried drugs either. I see first hand what drugs do to people, i don't even smoke or drink alcohol.

I'm confused. Didn't you say you're a trainee doctor? You do know a doctor has to treat everyone?

I ised to smoke but gave it up years ago. Alcohol is another matter.:D. I drink mostly only wine and/or champagne. Wine is divine and a beer on a hot summer day goes down a treat! but I'm a pretty moderate drinker and I don't drink to get pissed like so many people do today. I think one of the saddest spectacles in the world is a drunken woman (somehow, it seems worse than a drunken man).

I know what you mean, a drunken woman wobbling about on her high heels isn't a pretty sight. We've had our fair share of drunken patients at work, especially friday and Saturday nights.

Did i say i wouldn't treat them? I have a duty of care towards all of my patients whether they take drugs or not, i just don't wanna see them taking up valuable hospital beds through drug abuse, hospital beds should be for sick/injured patients.

Many drug abusers are sick. It's not up to medical staff to judge.

Self inflicted! Again not arguing with you, you seem to try to pick arguments with me but it won't work😁

No, I am not trying to pick arguments. You seem perpetually annoyed with me though I was more than helpful to you when you didn't know how to post photos. I have no idea why you are being like this. I like talking to a fellow Brit, but you are so unfriendly now. I won't bother you again.

Your PM was abrupt when you tried to help me post pics. That's why i didn't reply. Unless you work for the British nhs then you have no idea of the difficulties we face trying to find beds for seriously ill patients. Obviously we do not see eye to eye over this or the way a quiz is run so we shall not chat or quiz together again.
Dannii - do addicts over your way go to hospital for morphine to try to get off heroin? Here they go to government run 'shooting galleries'. I thought UK would have something similar.

I never saw the point of drinking to get drunk. I drink wine because it enhances a good meal not to make myself insensible. it seems to be a pretty normal thing in the UK on weekends now to see young women lying half naked in the street, roaring drunk. I think it's disgusting (not to mention dangerous).

They can get prescriptions from their GP, there's help available if they genuinely want help, they gotta ask for it though.

Yes, I guess they have to hit rock bottom before they do. So you dont have shooting galleries over there? I dont know why I thought you did. Very controversial here. People dont want addicts using morphine and taking up beds in hospitals but they dont wnt the galleries in their 'burbs either. I worked in a Burb in an affluent part of Sydney that had one and never knew it was there. I still dont know where it is.

There's none in my area. Drug users do get referred on to organisations that can help them. I haven't dealt with any yet, but i would treat them as i would any patient.
but i would treat them as i would any patient.
I'm not doubting that, hon. Just curious about whether UK has shooting galleries in general.

I know☺. We have plenty of crack houses though! You can spot them from miles away!
I've only seen a crack house on Breaking Bad. This is what a shooting gallery here looks like

It looks so clinical. A crack house is usually boarded up, probably has junk in the garden and people sneaking in and out, there was one that i know of, the police raided it recently.
Two different things, hon.

Public health experts have called for drug-testing facilities to be offered at festivals this summer after a trial last year found boric acid and ground-up malaria tablets sold as cocaine.

Boric acid....ground up malaria tablets. I'll bet you anything these kids were all for anything organic and against genetically modified food yet they were quite willing to inhale/inject/swallow illegal substances sold to them by someone shady with absolutely no idea of what was in them - could have been rat poison - and now they're dead. It should be mandatory for schools to have extensive courses on the perils of illegal drugs.
