Get outta here, you hippie!

My least favorite word is any of the subreligious expressions designed not to "offend", like Oh my gawd, Ehmegerd and Oh my gosh. And disturbingly enough a lot teenagers use them with zero irony.

It's the explosive consonants. Think of the difference between an english word that rhymes with pit and the equivalent in spanish. Mierda sounds like a dessert in comparison. 'I have no f-ing idea' in Nepali sounds like a song. In english it just sounds angry.

I always thought it was funny how "motherf--ker" and "son of a bitch" translate to the exact same thing in Spanish that doesn't sound nearly as bad. And that's so true. In English, you know exactly what the intent is, no dancing around it.

Etymology is interesting. I learned back in 2015 that the aforementioned N-word used to merely mean a low-down, contemptible, or ignorant person, having no connection to color before it was used toward African Americans. Whatever its meaning, I certainly don't condone its use, of course, since it's become so... polluted, for lack of a better word, and since it's an ugly word in general.

I thought it was a slur from the spanish word 'negro' so that's interesting.

I read a while ago that 'whore' was originally used for a man ie 'dandy', then it changed gender classification to fall in with that other horrible abused term 'slut'.

Where I am the N word isn't used except by young punks trying to be hip, like young guys calling a friend 'my bitch'. 'Black Fella' is used about indigenous, but I dont know anyone who uses that. I think it might be n outback thing.

In an earlier thread about favourite words i offered "shenanigans", great word. Best word even.

I don't think there's any words that annoy me, if a friend, family member, partner, whoever constantly uses some word then it will annoy me but that's not a problem with the word it's a problem with the person who uses it. I haven't read past this post i quoted but i can guess how this thread has went and i can imagine the words people have a problem with, unless they are highly offensive words then i know i have a problem with the person making those posts more than the actual words.

I think this is largely dying out thankfully. It was part of certain cultures growing up so it was a mainstay for kids until people started questioning it. I've actually never when a kid or not used that ever pretty much, it just felt so forceful like C***, not saying i wasn't awful i referred to things that were bad as "gay" all the time and actually went through a very short period of calling things that were bad "jewish" which is hilarious in the sense that i think i've met like 3 Jewish people in my life. Either way i was awful and probably still am in some ways.

A lot of Black guys here in the States, my area in Georgia being no exception, call each other N-I-G-G-A which means "Never Ignorant Getting Goals Accomplished," managing to turn such an ugly word into something positive. Some call each other "n-----r" though and that I certainly don't understand. Except for maybe this one Black guy called another Black guy who beat him up and stole his car that. White guys seldom call Black guys that in Georgia. In fact, other racist terms like "cracker," "h--ky," etc. are seldom used here. South Carolina, however, is another story altogether.

It's subversion. I think Queer Theory kicked the ball off in that regard. Minority groups reclaim the slur words to disempower people who use them. There's an entire course on this at a Uni down the road. It's actually very clever.

Is this a thing or has someone told you that and you've believed them?

I shouldn't talk about social issues, especially American social issues ever again here considering what has happened in the past but reclaiming a word is an admirable and just thing, white people should just not try to understand that because it has nothing to do with them anyway.

Just on subversion, I think I mentioned this a while ago. I travelled with a Pakistani English guy in Africa. He was a really lovely guy and just showed me how easy it was to be subversive. He then suddenly became the kool kid because he stood up to bullies.
Have you seen the biopic of Bruce Lee? He did the same thing. Some bullies called him 'a gook' and he said 'I'm not a gook; I am Chinese'. I remember reading that in his Bio.

Bastard used to be a terrible word here back in my parent's day, but then it sort of turned into a term of endearment, like 'You Beautiful Bastard'

Why are you always confused when you shouldn't be? What's the problem?

If i had any pull here i'd make people who post constantly make sense, have some sort of point to their posts and not just post for the sake of it.

If they had a problem with me they'd need to tell me what the problem is rather than sinking into their comfortness.

I think you know you aren't useful here really. People like you including me, which is fine but you don't add anything ever to anything, you have posted among the most in the 13th HOF yet you've absolutely not said anything interesting ever. Am i wrong here?

I mean i don't really care but lets not pretend you are doing anything other than spamming certain threads that have nothing to do with you.

The "people like you" thing meant people like you as in they enjoy your company i didn't mean to say it as in people like you.

if there's a word to describe people who'll take time out of their life to say "You shouldn't use the word hate", that might be one of my favorite ones :)

"Brownie points"

"He's just trying to earn brownie points"

If you actually use this word in your daily speech, ****. YOU.

I always hated being called "son" by anyone who isn't my father or grandfather.

I don't know if this is commonplace all over the US, but in the Old Confederacy, its been my
experience that a grown man/women calling someone (who isn't their child or grandchild) "son", is usually derogatory in nature. As if by not dying and becoming old automatically makes you a superior person.

Speaking of hate, I hate when someone says "You shouldn't hate something, DISLIKE it" --- bunch of phony baloney programmed thinking.
