Hello folks. It's my first post here. I'll keep it brief.

As for fav movies, #1 is an easy choice: House of Sand and Fog. #2, 3, and so on are harder to name. But, the pool consists of other movies I will name in another thread. I will wager that you have never heard of some of them.

I can't stand most of today's Sci-Fi type movies that are bloated with special effects. Special effects are no substitute for story/substance. I hope I'm not the only one who feels this way. I love serious/intense dramas with meaningful emotional content.

It's interesting you mention the scale of the effects/imagery with sci-fi, as I was watching an interview recently with Lance Henriksen where he discussed Prometheus. His main thing was "Why did [Ridley] make it so big?" and that that made it harder to get into.

Be prepared to lose that wager! There's people here been watching films for over 50 years, and there's others that watch more than one film a day, and that's besides those with specialist interests!

Welcome to the forum! I don't know why, but I always think of either Escapist Magazine (the website), or those magicians who escape from perilous predicaments whenever I see the word "escapist".
