View Full Version : The Best TV Show that Nobody's Watching

TV Guide has a semi-regular feature on this subject and I thought it might be interesting to bring it here. What's that TV show that's appointment television for you but the next day, you have no one to discuss it with because you don't know anyone else who's watching it. What's that one TV show that you love that never gets any award love? What's that one television show that you wish you could get every one you know to watch? This is an open question not one of my lists, I might post my thoughts after awhile.

The Americans is my favourite show airing and no one i know watches it. My ex gf watched it but i didn't at the time, none of my friends or anything do and it's tough to convince someone to pick up an hour long drama that's on Season 5.

I've posted a tonne about it to myself pretty much in this thread  - https://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?t=47938

Not my favourite because I kind of dumped it after the first three episodes I saw but then picked it up again recently. Black Mirror. I dont know anyone else watching this show (in the real world, not on forums). Mr D doesnt even watch it.

"Once Upon A Time" is one of my favorite current shows, although it's had a couple of story arcs that have run a bit too long, but it's been amazing since the beginning. But it's not the kind of show that you can just jump into late in the game. You have to watch it from episode 1, and continue watching in order.

"Scorpion" is another show that never lets me down. Every time I think it can't get any better, it just comes back with a better episode the following week.

Not really something that fits this thread since i got two of my friends obsessed with it, but all of my other friends and my girlfriend, and my siblings and cousins and whoever really don't like Nathan For You and it it baffles me. I watched all 3 Seasons over a weekend and i don't think i've laughed as much at anything ever; the only reason it isn't a top 3 show for me is because it's not quite as good in rewatch. It's basically got the awkward humour of The Office except Nathan makes it really easy and not (deliberately in The Office's case) cringey to watch with his personality.

Pretty sure Cosmic said it's one of the worst shows she has seen too

Nobody seems to watch any of the same shows. I remember the days when everyone watched Buffy, X Files, Friends... Now (or in the last few years) I'm talking about Person of Interest or Elementary and no one even knows what I'm talking about anymore. Granted I'm used to that, but not with TV too. ;)

I watched "Person of Interest", and I was very upset when it was cancelled. I became a fan of Jim Caviezel when I saw him in the movie Frequency (2000), and I miss seeing him on TV every week since POI was cancelled. I wasn't a fan of Michael Emerson when he was on "Lost", but he was great in POI.

I watch "Elementary" every week. I didn't think I was going to like it when I first read that they changed Dr. Watson's character to female, partly because I wasn't a fan of Lucy Liu when she was on "Ally McBeal", but it works in the show, and I like her too. I hadn't seen Jonny Lee Miller in anything before "Elementary", so I didn't know what to expect, but he's great as Sherlock Holmes. I even watched a few episodes of his previous show "Eli Stone" after seeing him in "Elementary", and I liked him in that too.

iZombie is consistently one of the best shows on television. It has that sweet spot Justified had where it was both a solid episodic procedural with and very strong overarching storyline.

LetterKenny is a Canadian sitcom that features Deadwood style dialogue with South Park filth this might be the only clip that could be share online but it gives you an idea of the humor.

Fortitude was a truly amazing show that aired on Pivot. It was a murder mystery based in the Antarctic the production values were insane and the cast was stacked.

It's a miracle Halt and Catch Fire has gone on for as long as it has. Three seasons on Netflix right now. Go watch.

I have a strong preference for older series so it's rare that I find myself invested in anything new. There are still so many classic shows I haven't finished, no time for modern stuff.

Speaking of Buffy, almost done rewatching the entire series which I haven't done in almost a decade, in celebration of its 20th anniversary. It brings back a lot of great memories

I'd watch Elementary over Sherlock all day long. I thought the consternation about Elementary from Sherlock's producers was unbelievably arrogant.

Is it Cumberbatch or is it the writing? I don't particularly like him but in what little I have seen the dialogue was worse.

Jeremy Brett was peerless. I don't mind updates but I prefer my Sherlock Holmes in the original setting.

Also, for someone who is supposed to be the world's greatest detective, he seems like a bit of a moron to me.Jeremy Brett was peerless. I don't mind updates but I prefer my Sherlock Holmes in the original setting.Agreed. The idea of updating something with a "modern setting" just rubs me the wrong way.

This isn't the Sherlock Homes you know, this one uses an Iphone! And he goes on the internet! So daring, so innovative!

Mm. I'm not the world's biggest Steven Moffat fan as you might have gathered.

The only thing I did like was the on-screen display of what Holmes is deriving from his examinations.

Thought the first 2 series were great. Episode 1 of season 1 is still my favorite. Been watching season 3 on Netflix, but bailed out of some of the episodes. One or two were pretty good. Reading reviews around the web, people seem to love season 3, but IMO the weakest season & I am done with the show.

Is that the social media one? That's the first one I saw.

Misfits is one we loved and no one we know watched it. Hilarious show and great actors.

I guess so. The woman who was trying to get to her friend's wedding where she was maid of honor.

I found that quite disturbing. Not scary disturbing but just a sad indictment on young people today obsessed with being appraised on social media.

Anybody watching this show on The Sundance channel? I've watched it from the start & its 4th season will be the final season. A very good show.

Rectify is amazing. It's actually already finished, finished in December. I still haven't watched the 4th Season yet.

I didn't know that. Will be on the lookout for spoilers - NY Times is notorious for ruining my shows.

I watch Rectify on DVD & season 4 will probably not be out until 2018. Slowest show ever to get onto DVD.

I'm not going to make a hyperbolic statement for this, but I will say I've not discussed Murdoch Mysteries with anyone who's seen the show. It's my favorite currently-airing show. The show is intelligent as anything. It's like a Canadian version of Sherlock Holmes. Any fans here?
