5 BAFTA noms, and well deserved. Absolutely stunning series.

No takers? This show is stunning, and these two are so good together.
This has nothing to do with the show, but about drinking tea. It;s just a bit of cute fun while I wait for December

They look like they're having a lot of fun working together these two :). Weirdly, Claire Foy's laugh towards the end is like Smith's :p.
I haven't thought this before but Foy really reminds me of Helena Bonham Carter – especially in my favourite of her roles, opposite Rik Mayall in the one-off Dancing Queen.
I smiled when I saw Smith blonded and bearded up as Philip, and even more so to see him aboard ship. All I could think was Patrick Troughton saying "It's jolly nice having your own boat" in reference to commanding a motor gun boat during WWII. Smith was very influenced by Troughton when he was playing the Doctor and I think Troughton would have been impressed with him too.
The chemistry between these two is fantastic, isnt it.

It really is – and that's just me looking at them talking about tea :p. They look very easy in each other's company; they're in good company as well. I think Smith's a brilliant actor and I saw Foy in a very short bit of Wolf Hall but it was enough for me to register how good she was.

I didnt want to watch this because I've never been a fan of the family, but two of my brothers kept hounding me so I thought I'd watch the pilot to see why it;s the most expensive show ever made. Hooley dooley. I was hooked. And strangely enough, it totally changed my opinion of them. They're real people. I could not believe it. Very likable characters. I wonder if Liz and Fog watch it.

It wouldn't surprise me. And Philip will have a lot more time on his hands now :).
It was funny when Matt Smith said he was introduced to Prince William at some event and the person told William he'd be playing his grandfather. William apparently said "Legend" and shook his hand.
Prince Charles is my favourite :). It'd be nice if he keeps the name when he becomes King but he'll probably be George VII. Charles III would be nice though because I know he's fond of George III.
Diana's sons are lovely.
I dont think Chuck will ever be King. Liz said he never would, and too many people still hate Camilla. I say Bill for King. That's a lovely, people friendly couple.

Well the chances are that he wouldn't be King for a really long time but that's the mystique. It is incredible to think that without the abdication everything would be so different. I imagine we'd still have had Elizabeth but not for such a mammoth reign.
We've recently been impressed with the King and Queen of Spain. I like the Norwegian royal family as well.
I've been watching this over the last couple of weeks.
Man, i hate Edward VIII. Is this a thing in England? Any British posters here to confirm a national antipathy?

Isnt it beautiful. I particularly like when they're in kenya because I met the ex british district commander from back in the day and was invited to his 'cottage' in the bush (Huge bloody mansion), and he showed me photos of when he escorted Liz and Marg when they were there (when they're father died). He said Liz was very pleasant and proper, and Marg was a live wire sex bomb. Lol. Bless him. His wife was not too happy.
I'm just waiting for her dragons to show up.

He's quite a dark figure to me, mainly because of the taint of alleged collaboration, but whether that has any real validity is open to debate.
Of course we always see him cast as the villain in films, often being very unkind to Albert (George VI), mocking his stutter etc. Guy Pearce in The King's Speech is probably the most horrible screen version.

Well the show does have a very smokey appearance.
Seriously, I had double check to see if they weren't the same actress.

pearce was great in that role but OMG, pretty loathsome character, and his mistress sure had him by the balls.

Claire and Emilia? Emilia is actually a brunette.

I've only seen these two beauties in these 2 shows so not really seeing a resemblance. But if you do that's cool and maybe post in doppelganger thread.

I'd guess it's very different to what she'd normally get.
I'm sure she'll pull it off but there's something... soft about her, no? Something that doesnt quite fit my mental image for Lisbeth.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly, but I havent seen her in anything else. I;m sure she can do gritty and kick arse though. Will be interesting.

Well I'm sure she'll be doing all the training. In fact I think Noomi Rapace had to do a bit – what did she say – to lose her curves, her feminine shape?
Yeah, my biggest issue will be transitioning from Queen Elizabeth to... Lisbeth.
I was kind of hoping for Riley Keough or Tatiana Maslany for the role.
So happy you got into this show, Saunch.

She wasn't all that 'soft' in Wolf Hall, Going Postal or Upstairs Downstairs, I think she'll be fine. It'll be interesting to see her in something that's not a costume drama
Olivia Coleman will play Elizabeth in seasons 3 and 4 (http://variety.com/2017/tv/news/olivia-colman-the-crown-queen-elizabeth-season-3-1202600405/).

The plan was always to have different actors play the same role at different periods of their lives.
I’ve binge watched Broadchurch and more Olivia Coleman gets my utter approval.

Watch Broadchurch. Or Hot Fuzz. She’s amazing.

Is your wife watching as well, CR? Cant believe how much I love that considering I was only going to watch the pilot. Totally hooked.
I’m going through season 1 again, just to make sure I’m on the right page (I do this with every show).
It’s all a fine testament to acting but this time around Lithgow and Stephen Dillane (aka Stannis Baratheon) really shone to me. It’s nice to see the latter do something other than sneer.

She's really liking it too. I love ongoing dramas, when I was a kid they were called mini series. Have you seen A Town Like Alice (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081949/)
It's set in the outback at a sheep station in Australia. I thought it was pretty darn good.

Oh yeah, Thorn Birds that was another great one.
If I had a rewatch now it would probably be very dated and too much bryan brown who I didnt really like but I think that was his big breakthrough for hollywood.
We've come a long way in mini series, though. 100 million for the first season of The Crown. Pretty amazing for a mini series. I wonder what season 2 is costing.
5 down. So far so good. Cannot say anything for spoilers, but dayum I love the clothes and hairstyles. Cars arent bad either.
This is not spoilery but I was just wondering after having my lil binge session last night -
There's a scene with Elizabeth at Sandringham where she's stomping around out in the mud wearing a skirt and gumboots (I dont know what americans call them so look like this
http://media.supercheapauto.com.au/bcf/images/zooms/52154401-zoom.jpg
Makes me wonder if she ever wears trackie pants and gumboots while picking up dog poop like I do. Oh wait...she probably forces some underling to do that.
And getting back to the current theme in the trumpty thread, I wonder if she and Phil ever sit back and think what an outrageous amount of money they live off. Are they hoarding it for a sunny day?
Finished the season one revisit and started Wolf Hall with Claire Foy (its engrossing, btw) and I’ll be spending the weekend with my family and I’ve been informed they’ve only just started season one of The Crown, so...
Do you think Claire just get better looking? Gee I think she's so pretty in this. That scene in episode 5 (I think) when she's wearing the red hat and coat and Phil is mocking her hair - she's absolutely stunning.
She’s like Sean Bean in that period or fantasy setting clothing just sort of... suit her.
Here’s Wolf Hall’s look:

********Ooh episode 6 so those not up to date enter at your own risk*********
was it widely known he was a NAZI sympathiser or was that just a rumour? I would have had him hanged for treason...simply for being a whiney little man bitch
I dont believe in the death penalty so would have had to think about that
for 3 seconds
Not really spoilery but
I was told what a jealous lil vixen she was. Ouch re: what Jacqueline said about her and the palace. Not a very well mannered guest, that's for sure.
Saunch
Will leave convo for later.
I thought you said you'd seen second season?
No. I rewatched the first to make sure I was fully caught up (it’s like an OCD thing. It’ll be a nightmare come season 8 of Game of Thrones).
Oh sorry, I wanted to have a convo with someone about it and pucked up with my hypothetical. Not too much of a spoiler; Just a flashback. Will just keep quiet until you get up to date.
One of my sisters is addicted but only up to 203.
I’m going through season 1 again, just to make sure I’m on the right page (I do this with every show).
All finished. Now going back for a rewatch of season 1 while I wait to debrief with ya'll. Season 2 was So So Good.
Hands up if you'd like to live that life. Not I, that's for sure.
News day was depressing so I made time for one episode of S2. It was brilliant. Between this, Qyburn and Thomas More in Wolf Hall, Anton Lesser has found his calling as distantly manipulative old men.
https://s17.postimg.org/gtn3ezh67/C6_DBD846-09_F1-43_BC-912_D-_CBA23686_FB4_D.jpg

You have some great viewing coming up, Saunch. So well done.
My only bugbear is the lengthy eye stares that seem to get longer and longer, but that's just a wee nitpick. Otherwise I cant fault it. Not sure how much poetic license was taken but quite a few articles on that on the net.
As for the manipulative old men, could not agree more. She comes across as completely alone amidst an obstacle course a lot of the time, and still made her way through.
Princess Margaret is like the long lost Tyrell family member.
So has anyone finished yet?
Not spoilery but just a tidbit - there is a sex scene coming up that has caused complete moral outrage. OH MY GOD THE PORNOGRAPHY. I FEEL SO VIOLATED. CANCELLING NETFLIX!!!
Hilarious. It's a gorgeously shot scene that sets up the drama while being subtle. Well clutch my pearls. I must be truly wicked.
And a merry xmas to yuel.

LMAO. I swear I saw a gentrified lady earlier have a heart attack. She has sworn off netflix forever. And it wasnt even a royal nipple from memory.
I forgot to mention how much I liked Ep.2. I thought that was a great critic of the sort of male exceptionalism and entitlement that’s come under fire in a big way this year (in the entertainment industry, at least). Plus it’s the first time Philip felt a multi-dimensional character. Prior to this, I though the series suffered from the Kramer vs. Kramer problem.
Oh yes, ep 2 was great. I never thought I would come to appreciate those two, but the show really changed my opinion of them, especially how emasculated he must have felt. That young actor who played young phil was exceptional, I thought.
I still think they'd be pretty snotty to commoners, though. I'm wondering how the newbie to the family will feel on xmas day when she stuffs up her royal etiquette.
5 facts they got wrong by msmojo. I have no idea who that is (why does she speak like a robot?) and I think most of thse are poetic licence rather than getting it wrong. I;m most interested in the great fog - I never knew about that, not that I was around back then, only the term 'pea souper'

Yeah, it's the kind of thing you get a lot in Sherlock Holmes.
Helena Bonham Carter is playing Margaret in season 3.
I hope someone pays attention to these cause they’re pretty spot on (particularly Bettany)

Old Philip needs to be played by Charles Dance, though.

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/crown-paul-bettany-deal-play-prince-philip-1076246
Yay.
I dont think I've seen anything with him in it but I think his look will follow on nicely from Matt depending on what they do with makeup.
Bettany is not playing Philip in season 3.
Poop.
My first thought for an alternate was Daniel Craig (so much smolder) but I don’t know that he’s viable for the show.
Edit:
So, I finished season 2 and was mostly lukewarm about it. Acting was great, on the technical side it’s all quite flawless, but narratively it’s... vapid. That’s a problem the show needs to acknowledge; these are, ultimately, rather boring people. Season one has a strong logline. Elizabeth becomes the queen and has to surrender so much of herself for the sake of The Crown™. That’s good, that’s endearing and potent. Here, I kind of think of it as, like, Iron Man 2. Too soon, too little. The benefit this show has is that they can pick the best moments of the royal’s lives. However fun season two might have been to binge, it didn’t add up to much. The best advice for the show going forward is to get right down to it. Get as much character growth from the big moments, the moments that affected the family as much as the nation or, at least, their closest colleagues. It’s sensationalization and there’s no need to be coy about it.
Just finished the last season, and thoroughly enjoyed this series from beginning to end. At no point did this show lag or dip in quality. Something I believe Breaking Bad only pulled off too, but it was more exciting due to the fiction advantage. The Crown had class.
