Do you mean this thread (http://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?t=37123)? I saw it when I first joined but never bothered adding my own marker. Maybe I will now that you've reminded me about it haha.
I live in St. John's (not to be confused with Saint John which is a different place in a different province). Here is a nice touristy summer photo I found on google:

How was the ferry? I've never actually been on it. Every time I've left here it's been on a plane haha.
Everyone always likes to get pictures of jelly bean row (the first of your pictures), and while it looks pretty the rest of the year, it is impossible to navigate downtown in the winter. There is literally nowhere for everyone to put all the snow. I'm so glad that I don't live down there haha.

The ferry was okay. The 18 hour one has a cabin fire during dinner. So that was fun.
I didn't get the chance to get screeched in. My wife was pregnant at the time and the other couple don't drink. I'd feel so alone. Ha.

Columbia, MD was sort of famous in its heyday, the late '60s and through the '70s, as a planned community, designed by James Rouse, who is the grandfather of actor Edward Norton. Norton grew up here (we never crossed paths), as did Pulitzer Prize winning author Michael Chabon (Wonder Boys, The Adventures of Cavalier & Clay), artist/writer Aaron McGruder (The Boondocks), and musician Dave Sitek (TV on the Radio). I have met Chabon a couple times and even had lunch with him once, through one of my Portland friends actually (and we had lunch in San Diego at ComicCon). Though I didn't know Edward Norton or Aaron McGruder I did know David Sitek. Our brothers were friends and he and I spent a couple summers working together at a stage theater, though I haven't spoken to him since the 1990s. If any of you are big TV on the Radio fans, I can share a pic of Sitek and me as skinny teenagers goofing around the theatre.
Here is an essay Chabon wrote back in 2001 about how Columbia captured his imagination as a kid.
https://fmarcial.wordpress.com/2009/05/04/michael-chabon-on-columbia-md/
And here is a very 1970s educational film about my town. They start talking about Columbia at about the 9:35 mark. You can see the suburban utopia I grew up in. I live in Columbia, now. It has certainly expanded and changed over the decades, but the core elements of the original planned community are still around.

The good thing is there are very few earthquakes!
But seriously, it's a very diverse state - I always say I could drive 45 minutes in any direction and be in such places as New York City (the most famous city in the world), wide open farmland (we are still called "the Garden State"), at many of the famous Jersey Shores including the gambling mecca of Atlantic City (that's more like a couple hours' drive from me), in wealthy upscale areas inhabited by celebrities, in some of the worst most crime-infested ghettos, in deep coniferous forests or atop high mountains along the Appalachian Trail.

Then, when I was twelve, we moved back to my mother's hometown in Tennessee. She was the oldest of ten. The bulk of the family was still there, so she decided to go back. The End!

No offence taken. I was just going to throw in the joke about someone obviously didn't have a tv. My parents had a tv. They just liked something a bit more physical and kept forgetting the rhythm method encouraged by the then Pope. Woooo. Thank the lord or I wouldn't have been born.

I live a few towns from where country singer Brad Paisley was born and raised, everytime you enter the town their welcome sign has "HOME OF BRAD PAISLEY" on it and I think that is their only way to get tourists lol. JJ Abrams' film Super 8 was filmed near me as well and a bunch of people I went to school with were extras in the movie. Present day me would of killed to get on that set to meet JJ and that cast but 10th grade me didn't have acting on his radar so I didn't try. The film itself wasn't all that great. Had some fun scenes but nothing groundbreaking.
That's about as interesting as the area I live around gets.

Hubby and I used to go up to Dave & Buster's in Nyack, but they finally opened one here on the island, so we haven't been up that way in a while. We also used to stop at Stew Leonard's supermarket on the way sometimes, but we finally got one of those too.
It takes a while, but eventually the good stuff comes here. We're finally getting a Sonic Drive-In in East Meadow and a Golden Corral in Levittown. They're not open yet, but the signs are up that they're "coming soon". :)
Now all we need is a Cici's Pizza, and we'll have all the places that Hubby and I used to visit out of the area. :)

Well I've actually heard of the Capital Grille without looking on the internet :D, from friends but I've never actually been there myself. I usually never go into downtown Pittsburgh when I go I usually come across the bridge and rub up against the city. That...sounded dirty...

Golden Corral is still fine for me. I hate Sonic besides there drink selection. CiCi's, seriously? You live in NY. The only good thing about CiCi's is the price, so my boys do get it about once a month.
I love CiCi's. It's not the same as normal pizza, and I don't expect it to be, but they have a nice variety of pizza, pasta, salad, and even desserts for a low price.

Loaded question for me, and one I get every day (a minor immigrant complaint ). Let's just say I'm a current resident of Sweden.
Listen to any Swedish metal?
Oh, in case anyone reading this is anywhere near Pittsburgh, or even will be, lunch is on me. Standing offer for any MoFo who's ever in the area.
Does this mean what you're really saying? Do you have a local Izakaya behind a red door with no restaurant name above the entry that allows a guest, such as your good self, to strip naked and lie on the banquet table, then get covered with sashimi? the other guests are not given chopsticks.
Not sure how I'm feeling about this. I think Mrs Yoda and Mrs Aus might need a say, you norty boy.

Where am I? You sure you want to know? The story of my address is not for the faint of heart. If somebody told you it was a happy tale, if somebody said I was just your average guy, not a care in the world... somebody lied. But let me assure you, this, like any other story worth telling, is all about a girl....
I spent the first 30 years of my life in upstate NY. Syracuse and Albany. "Real" upstate - not that Westchester / Rockland nonsense that everybody from NYC thinks of when they say "upstate". The land of lake effect snowstorms. The transition zone between the East Coast and the Midwest. Then, just before the millenium, I met a girl through the magic of this crazy new thing known as the World Wide Web. She lived in Gotham, though, so there was no way it would get too serious. She couldn't pronounce the letter "R" well enough to leave the city, and there was no way - NO WAY - I was moving there.
Anyway, in the Summer of 2001, I moved down there. Somehow, that's maintained for the nearly 16 years since. So, at some point, I'll have to admit this is home. Queens, NY. Home of Peter Parker. Which brings us full circle to explaining why I chose to open with the paraphrased first paragraph.

You're from the home of the "garbage plate" diner meals? JEALOUS!The nearly 20 years we've spent together has still not brought my wife to a place where she can react to any of my family's attempts at generating "ethnic" cuisine without visible disgust.
Of course, considering that buildings started toppling within a month of my arrival as a NYC resident, it's quite possible that fate never really intended this thing we have to last.

That's where I'm from originally, and most of my family still lives. I worked at a camp outside of Rochester all through High School. I married a LI girl but we lived in Suffolk county. Lived there a few years before coming back down south. Your upstate comment cracked me up. She always said I wasn't a real NY because I lived upstate. I told her real NY-er would scoff at a Suffolk county girl calling herself a real NY-er.

From Wiki:
The first Saltair pavilion and a few other buildings were destroyed by fire in 1925. A new pavilion was built and the resort was expanded at the same location...With a huge new dance floor – the world's largest at the time Saltair became known as a dance palace, the amusement park becoming secondary to the great traveling bands of the day...
The resort closed in 1958...in November 1970, an arson fire was set in the center of the wooden dance floor, destroying Saltair.

Ha! Holy crap, I just remembered: I haven't thought about it for a long time, but there's a locally "famous", bargain-basement-budget short movie shot in the late '60s/early '70s called "The Great Brine Shrimp", about a mutant monster from the Great Salt Lake attacking the city.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
The movie includes what I always assumed was actual news footage of the fire, and manages to blame it on the monster.
Thanks for reminding me!

I've always assumed it was actual footage, but I don't actually know. Watching the film again the other day (for the first time in years), it looks like all the flames are behind a silhouette of the structure, so I'm starting to suspect that may have been fake. Shot after the fact, of course, and using a genuine newspaper headline. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Indianapolis, Indiana.
There is nothing here.
Never come to Indiana.
LOL. Sounds like Connecticut.
Staffordshire?! I love your terriers!
Give over, every ****ing town in Britain is infested with these mutts and their three stripe trackie wearing scowling owners... dogs homes are getting swamped with them, I'm sick of hearing about it and want to see more collies, a real ****ing dog but then I guess they don't look too intimidating for your chav rubbish.
Me and my Labrador were attacked by a staffie, horrible dogs they are and their owners are just as bad, a man walking by rescued us.

Blackpool
My best childhood memories are from Blackpool, spending all day at Pleasure Beach and going on the piers. My mother was born in Bacup.

Damn! I hope you were both OK.
Damn! I hope you were both OK.
Me too and so relieved someone came to your rescue, dannii. My dog was attacked one day when I had two on a brace out walking and minding our own business. Very traumatic. It wasn't a stafford but I'm not going to brand all dogs of the same breed because of it. Some humans just aren't even responsible enough to own a pet rock.

I suffered puncture wounds on my ankle trying to rescue my dog, and my dog had puncture wounds to her neck. The guy who rescued us had to kick the staffie to get it off us. My dog was 10 at the time, she died last year at 14.

I love dogs but this has made we wary now. I had puncture wounds on my ankle, my dog had puncture wounds on her neck, my dog was on a harness and leash, the leash got wrapped around my hand quite tightly in the struggle, the staffie was on the loose. The guy who rescued us kicked the staffie til it stopped attacking.

Do you know, I been here 18 months and still not been to the Pleasure beach, love the piers though, especially now it's getting warm.

Whenever I hear a story like this, it's always a staffie but Dani8 is right, they are not inherently bad dogs, I knew one called jay who was really gentle and loving and wouldn't hurt anything, he just want to cuddle.
There's just too many of them and quite often dangerous because they got some bully owner who makes them hyper 24/7.. most of them need putting down (the owners not the dog)

That is true. It's just hard to trust those dogs now after seeing one going for my dogs neck, it's as if it knew the weak points. My Labrador was very loving and placid, to see her being attacked has never left me. I was scared on our walks afterwards. I was taken to hospital and my dog was taken to the vets, when my (late) husband heard what had happened he went straight to the vets, which did make me smile!

I remember once four dogs went for my border collie, it's a horrible experience.. the guy was yelling at me to kick them (his own dogs!) I remember afterwards being really shook up and checking my dog for injuries and my dog not the slightest bit concerned about what happened lol

Ahhhh that's a blessing then that your dog wasn't bothered! Sometimes you got to defend yourself and kick back. I'd never hurt a dog or any animal but i did kick the staffie, my dog had her harness and leash on and in the struggle the leash wrapped around my hand tightly so i had to use my feet, the guy who rescued us then dragged the staffie off by it's front legs as it tried attacking him, there was blood everywhere.
I remember once four dogs went for my border collie,
Good god! Why the hell didnt the owner do something and why were they off leads anyway? Fracking idiot. Stories like this make my blood boil.
dannii like this so you can walk two dogs at once and not have them all over the place

Problem is this enormous dog slipped it's collar and ran at mine then picked one up and shook him into a seizure. Stupid old twat owner just stood on the road watching while my other dog was also being jerked around. All she said when I got her thing to drop mine was 'she doesnt like it when little dogs come up behind her' and walked off while my dog ended up in surgery. I reported her to the animal control officer. Stupid owner; I don't blame the dog. There's another one of that breed in the suburb and he rolls over on his back for little dogs so it's not the breed at fault either. It's always moronic owners. ARGHHHH.
Vent over.

Yes i know what they are now from your pic. That's awful what happened to your dogs, the owners are defo to blame. My dog died of heart failure last year, i tried to revive her but it was too late. I'll never forget what happened to us.
So sorry, dannii.
Thank you. I may get another but not just yet it's still raw.

I bet. There is a pet thread if you think writing out a rainbow bridge vale for your dog might help. I'll bump it with the rainbow bridge ode for you.

I saw that thread but i saw a little cat on it who had been abused and it made me so mad so i avoid that thread now. If i can find out how to put her pic as my avatar i'll do that☺

That was posted by someone here who works for that clinic. It has a happy ending, hon, but I know what you mean. You could start a general rainbow bridge thread if you like. Lots of mofos have lost their pets. I've been on a dog forum for years and it has a rainbow bridge tribute thread which people find very healing.

Ugh, anyone who abuses an animal should go straight to execution without trial.
Stole that line from another context in Pulp Fiction, but it applies to any animal abuser IMO.

I'm with FromBeyond; some owners need to be put down.

This better describes my image of pit bulls. Most of them I know are big, friendly slobs who love nothing better than a tummy rub, but these are family pets with loving, responsible owners (or they wouldn't come through our door in the first place). That's why I had an immediate positive association at the mention of Staffordshire.

Made me mad too, but I can honestly say she's now in the best home ANY cat could hope for. :)
