Welcome! Welcome!
Allow me to kick-off the first new list of 2017!
Inspired by the discussions in the "What are the best films from the first half of the decade?" thread, I decided to take it one step further and do an actual countdown for it. I will tell you all my 51 favorite movies from the first 7 years of the 2010s.
Why 51? Well since it's an uneven number of years I'm reviewing, I might as well do an uneven number of movies. Come and join me in the odd-numbered shenanigans! :dizzy: :highfive: :dizzy:
Looking forward to it . It's felt like there's been no personal countdowns here in ages unless i've missed them.

Yeah I haven't really seen any since I came back last month. Hopefully taking the initiative can encourage other members to start some up as well.
Hope you enjoy Camo!

And here we go!
51. The Magnificent Seven (2016)
http://static.rogerebert.com/uploads/movie/movie_poster/the-magnificent-seven-2016/large_magnificent_seven_ver3.jpg
While it may not be a masterpiece and yes, it's yet another remake (also yes, I know the original was a remake of Seven Samurai) this movie served its purpose of being a really fun Western shoot-em-up with a very interesting band of characters. I normally enjoy Fuqua's films and loved the cast which included Washington, Pratt, Hawke, D'onofrio, and Sarsgaard.
50. Spotlight (2015)
http://www.kickasstoo.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Spotlight-2015-Download-Free-Full-Movies.jpg
Though I still don't feel that it should have won BP last year, I still think Spotlight is an engaging drama that deserved its praise. Michael Keaton's performance really shined in this and I'm happy that he's had such a career resurgence in Hollywood.
49. A Million Ways to Die in the West (2014)
https://www.puregeekery.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/A-Million-Ways-To-Die-In-The-West-Movie.png
Admittedly a guilty pleasure but I can't help it this movie is funny as hell! Neil Patrick Harris was hilarious in this and the Indian vision sequence had me :rotfl: like crazy.
48. The VVitch (2015)
http://cdn5.thr.com/sites/default/files/imagecache/landscape_928x523/2016/03/witch_2015_0.jpg
Surely one of the better horror films of the decade. Creepy as hell with the goat Black Philip really stealing the show. A must-see for any horror fan.
Haven't seen neither but definitely want to see The VVitch.

Spotlight was pretty solid. Haven't seen the rest.
The Witch is so good. Soooooo good
Interesting mixture. I haven't heard good things about A Million Ways to Die but it seemed like it would be funny. I've only seen bits of on TV. I didn't like The Witch, but I do like Spotlight quite a bit.

I haven't seen any of those but I did try and watch A Million' but it was just so...bad. Seth McFarlane should never be allowed to act on screen ever again.
The Witch is great, top five of 2016 to me so far. Spotlight was okay but i don't think i'll ever feel the need to watch it again.

Yeah most people hate Million Ways, so it's definitely my biggest guilty pleasure in this countdown. With those types of movies though all I'm looking for is a laugh, and Million Ways gave me a lot of 'em.

47: Deadpool (2016)
http://s3.foxmovies.com/foxmovies/production/films/103/images/featured_content/111-front.jpg
Deadpool accomplishes what it's meant to accomplish very well: being fun, being edgy, and being the comic book movie that truly stands out from the rest. Ryan Reynolds was born to play THIS VERSION of Deadpool.
46. Argo (2012)
http://www.impawards.com/2012/posters/argo.jpg
A great thriller that solidified Ben Affleck as a great director. One of the better "based on a true event" movies of the decade.
45. Sucker Punch (2011)
http://www.warnerbros.com/sites/default/files/styles/key_art_270x400/public/suckerpunch_keyart.jpg?itok=rf6wxRri
Another guilty pleasure makes the cut! Like A Million Ways... the majority of people seem to hate this movie, but it's one that I enjoyed. I remember listening to the soundtrack quite a bit when it came out too. An entertaining flick (for me) that I think is a bit underrated.
44. How to Train Your Dragon (2010)
http://static2.comicvine.com/uploads/original/11/117787/4452648-4580717005-How-t.jpg
An animated film I really enjoyed upon first watch. It's been a long time since I've seen it but still remember how great it was. I also really need to watch the second one, which for some really strange reason I still haven't gotten around to!

I'm shocked that so many people like Deadpool this much. Aside from the opening credits which were genius, I just don't understand the love. It was OK but nothing special.
Argo was decent but we have certainly seen better best picture Oscar winners, such as last year's and this year's presumably as well.

I'm far from a Marvel/comic book movie fan but I would say that the past couple years they've been better. I do think Deadpool was the breath of fresh air that Marvel needed. Though I don't agree with the whole "make more comic movies rated R!" trend that's been going ever since it came out.
Yes there have been better BP winners than Argo, but only a couple from this decade I thought were better.
Haven't seen Deadpool and Argo. Didn't like Sucker Punch but How to Train Your Dragon is a fantastic movie! Would probably appear in my top 25 of this decade.
Expected to hate Deadpool but i actually quite liked it. Not a fan of Argo. How To Train Your Dragon is great, my favourite Dreamworks.

I'm gonna be following this list, haven't done another personal list in a while because I can't really think of a good one to do but this is perfect!
But I think people keep mixing up the X-Men Franchise & the MCU thinking they are run by the same studio. Fox are the ones running the X-Men Franchise (including Deadpool) since they bought the rights from Marvel back in the 90s while the MCU (Ironman, Avengers, Captain America) is actually run by Marvel (Disney who bought Marvel). Sony still has the rights to Spiderman they are just partnering up with Marvel and including Spiderman in the MCU now because The Amazing Spiderman 2 underperformed so they panicked and rebooted it again.

Spotlight (2015) This is one of my favorite movies of 2015, based on a shocking true story. A very intelligently crafted story, that does not rely on old tired troupes and cliches, but is done like an investagive movie in the vein of All The Presidents Men. I'd call this a must see for any cinephile.
Argo (2012) Also based on a true story that most hadn't heard of until the movie came out. It avoids the usual pitfalls of a thriller and keeps the tone believable, well the ending gets a little broad but overall a solid movie.

Cool thread! Only one I've seen so far is Argo which I love as well. That or The Kings Speech I would say are the strongest best picture winners of the decade.
I like Deadpool and Argo. The humor of Deadpool worked for me. Haven't seen Sucker Punch and thought How to Train Your Dragon was so-so.

43. Blood Father (2016)
https://i2.wp.com/teaser-trailer.com/wp-content/uploads/Blood-Father-Poster.jpg?ssl=1
Mel Gibson returns to form in a surprisingly good film that is reminiscent of action movies from the 90s imo.
42. Spy (2015)
http://static.metacritic.com/images/products/movies/2/7bfcc176839e151c210121fdcebb984c.jpg
I did not expect this movie to be nearly as good and funny as it was. IMO Jason Statham steals the show in this one. Definitely Melissa McCarthy's best movie.
41. Django Unchained (2012)
http://www.impawards.com/2012/posters/django_unchained.jpg
Truly a film that only Tarantino could make. Over the top in its brutality as well as its dark humor. I believe any fan of Tarantino would enjoy this movie (if they hadn't seen it yet for some odd reason).
40. The King's Speech (2010)
http://www.impawards.com/2010/posters/kings_speech.jpg
A great movie in every sense of the word. Great pacing, great cinematography, great set design, and of course, great acting!
Django is actually one of my least favourite Tarantino films, it's still entertaining though. The King's Speech is very good, didn't expect to enjoy it as much as i did. Haven't seen the others.

I was a little underwhelmed by The King's Speech. It was good, but I didn't find it particularly memorable. I love Django Unchained. Not only is it one of my favorite Tarantino flicks, but it's also one of my favorite movies just in general.
I haven't seen the others and have no desire to see Spy.
I've only seen Django Unchained which i like quite a bit.

Who told you to do that? I think FW is posting a few at a time because he's only doing short write-ups which makes sense. Really don't understand why people have this weird aversion to repping a post that contains something they don't like as if they are contributing to it financially by doing so or something . If you like one film and don't like another explain that in your comment

39. Warcraft (2016)
http://media1.gameinformer.com/filestorage/CommunityServer.Components.SiteFiles/imagefeed/featured/blizzard/blizzcon/2013/wowmovie/poster/warcraftposters_610.jpg
A movie that wasn't that well received but there's a couple reasons why I personally like it. One, I played World of Warcraft for like 5 years, so I knew the lore of the world and could follow the film fine (and trust me, if you aren't familiar with the game's story, you'll have no idea what's going on). Second, I'm a big Travis Fimmel fan, mainly because of the TV show Vikings, and him being in it is a huge plus for me!
38. Frozen (2013)
http://www.impawards.com/2013/posters/frozen.jpg
Let it go! Let it gooo! Okay yeah that song's kinda annoying now but this movie is a massive part of the new golden age of Disney. I really enjoyed this one when it came out and still do.
37. True Grit (2010)
http://static.rogerebert.com/uploads/movie/movie_poster/true-grit-2010/large_qc7vaF5fIeTllAykdP3wldlMyRh.jpg
Definitely one of if not THE best remake of the decade. The Cohen Bros really did this one justice. Jeff Bridges was great as well of course.
36. End of Watch (2012)
http://www.bringthenoiseuk.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/End-of-Watch-DVD.jpg
A very strong crime film with Gyllenhaal and Pena giving amazing performances in the lead roles. No doubt David Ayer's best directorial effort so far.

The picks I really like so far are Argo, How to Train Your Dragon, Spotlight, Blood Father, and Django Unchained.
I wasn't crazy about Frozen, End of Watch, Deadpool, or The VVitch, although they weren't bad.
I'd like to see The King's Speech, True Grit, and maybe Spy.
True Grit is pretty awesome. Probably the most underrated Coen Bros. movie in my opinion.
I really The King's Speech and Spotlight, which have gotten a lot of rotten reputation as Oscar bait but I think they're more valuable than just that.
Django is pretty fun but I find it a superficial, specially compared to QT's other western this decade.
The Witch is my favorite of all the movies listed so far.
Really liked True Grit the first time i saw it but it went down a bit the second time. Not a fan of Frozen.

Loved the The King's Speech, this is my idea of a great film.

http://static.rogerebert.com/uploads/movie/movie_poster/captain-america-civil-war-2016/large_large_5N20rQURev5CNDcMjHVUZhpoCNC.jpg
This is one of the very few super hero movies where I walked out thinking "That was actually really good." when I left the theater. This is the Marvel craze at its best imo. The airport fight was of course very fun to watch.
34. Animal Kingdom (2010)
http://18675-presscdn.pagely.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Animal-Kingdom.jpg
A harrowing Australian crime-thriller about a young man taking a nose-dive into the criminal underworld.
33. La La Land (2016)
http://www.lalaland.movie/assets/images/og.jpg
A fantastic tribute to the classic Hollywood musicals. Possibly the strongest contender for BP at the upcoming Oscars.
32. John Wick (2014)

Like most people, I saw the trailer and thought "Oh great, another Keanu movie." but then I was hearing that it was actually... pretty good! I finally got around to seeing it and was pleasantly surprised. This was actually a strong and well-done action movie.

I would watch it again, but I was disappointed in Animal Kingdom the first time. Maybe I wasn't in the mood because it would seem to suit my taste perfectly.
I enjoyed John Wick, and I'll definitely watch the sequel, yet I don't think there was anything special about it.
I've gotten a little tired of superhero movies after going through a stretch of enjoying them. I'll probably try Civil War eventually.
La La Land is not something that appeals to me on the surface, but I will watch it because of all the acclaim and I like Gosling.
Animal Kingdom is in my top five of the decade so far . Want to see La La Land despite not being a big Whiplash fan.

Yeah it's flippin crazy, sometimes it gets so violent and messed up that it starts getting rather comedic, best example is when the main guy uses his massive boner to impale another guy through the eye.
I didn't realize for years that it was called A Serbian Film. A friend of mine saw it and was telling me about it so i asked what it was called and he said "it's a serbian film", for some reason i took that as him not knowing what it was called but knowing that it was made in Serbia. When i saw it (saw it online or something i mean i haven't watched it) like two years later i cracked up

I liked Animal Kingdom a lot. Have you watched the TV series?
I watched the first episode but wasn't that into it. Since it was a re-hash of the film's beginning I guess I should have given it a couple more episodes. I hated how they made the grandmother look like some old retired stripper. I liked it better in the film how she just looked like a little old lady, she didn't look like the head of a crime family in the least.
There's no way i could watch that as i couldn't imagine anybody but Jacki Weaver playing that role.
My main issue with Civil War: too many characters. I know that sounds weird but I do think the movie could be improved by containing the conflict. If it was just Steve, Tony and Bucky, I think, the climax would have more weight. It would help to feel more personal.
But, yeah, the airport scene was cool, though inconsequential.
Animal Kingdom is fantastic. I don't know if anyone else got a somnambulistic feel to it, I thought it made the overall product kind of mesmerizing.
John Wick is awesome. Plain and simple.
I'm off to see La La Land later today!

30. Take Shelter (2011)
http://static.wixstatic.com/media/9625d4_059cea3bc2284b2a8d0f0090141997b5.jpg

'71 and Green Room were both pretty good, both a solid 3.5 to me. I wasn't a fan of Kingsman, it tried a little too hard for me with it's humor, and overall "coolness" personally, but hey, I'd be up for a sequel if they did it right. It still had some solid action scenes.

Never seen Shotgun Stories but it does sound interesting!
Kingsmen came off as juvenile to me. Edgerton is good, though. Guy's got "next big thing" material.
Take Shelter is very good. Funny, I dont really hear much about Shannon and Chastain's performances by they're both great in it. Nichol's is very good at authenticity.
Haven't seen '71. I didn't really take to Green Room but I liked Blue Ruin (Saulnier's previous). Yelchin was good, as was Stewart but Imogen Poots was the standout to me. Keep an eye on her, I think she's on her way to the big leagues.

I really don't see it as a horror movie though, of course horror and thriller are very similar genres that can be blurred quite often, but I consider it a very intense thriller.

Yea, a thriller sure, I wouldn't argue that. It's one of those movies that's on the line. You see, I was pretty hyped for it because I kept hearing how brutal it was, but I usually see something more brutal than that every week. I liked it a little and it's certainly well made. I loved Blue Ruin.

Yeah, same. I heard it was really brutal so when I watched it I was shocked by how little brutality there was. That wouldn't matter to me if the movie was good otherwise (I love a good gore flick but I love a good non-gory flick too), just that I was expecting something different. I think the movie is certainly well-crafted in terms of direction but I didn't think the script was very great and I think that's what killed it for me. I'm a big Yelchin fan, so I wanted to like it. I just think it's a little overrated in terms of how well-done it is. Another case where hype does more of a disservice to a film than anything else.

27. The Tree of Life (2011)
https://tgc-cache.s3.amazonaws.com/images/uploads/articles/tree_of_life_1.jpg
I had never seen a film quite like this one before. Quite a mesmerizing tale about a Texas family that ends up transcending time and space.
26. Krampus (2015)

One of the more unique horror movies of the decade. A very enjoyable movie with some great practical effects and monster designs.
25. The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014)
http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/filmguide/images/5/5c/The-hobbit-the-battle-of-the-five-armies-poster.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20150109174425
Bring on the hate! I've discussed before but I'm a fan of the Hobbit films even though many people hate them (I will agree that they're not quite on LotR's level) The final installment might have been extremely heavy on the CGI but was still enjoyable for me. Also, "The Last Goodbye" by Billy Boyd is an awesome ending song!
24: Ant-Man (2015)
https://lumiere-a.akamaihd.net/v1/images/movie_poster_antman_38ce72fc.jpeg?region=0%2C0%2C300%2C450
Ant-Man is perhaps my favorite superhero film. I just found the whole character and origin story to be very enjoyable. Many of the scenes and situations also had some great comedic value, such as the climatic fight on the train set, which I thought was hilarious!

I like Ant Man too. I didn't quite like The Hobbit that you picked. I did like the first two well enough though.
First set i haven't seen any. Didn't like the first Hobbit so i didn't bother with the others. Love Trick r Treat so i want to see Krampus. Malick is hit or miss for me but i definitely want to see The Tree of Life at some point.
Tree of Life is the most fascinating movie of the decade so far. Visually, obviously, but there's really something wonderful about the way Malick connects his rumination on family, childhood and nurture with the origins of life and conscience in the universe. That level of eloquence is missing from his other outputs in the last six years.
Haven't seen Krampus but I know it's got a growing cult following. I'll be sure to check it out soon. The only Tolkein film I can consider great is Fellowship. I maintain that The Hobbit is a good 3 hour movie harmed by being stretched into a trilogy. And Jackson should have given it to someone else to direct.
I don't think I can really say anything good or bad about Ant-Man. It's the kind of movie that gets Marvel criticism for being flat.

http://voices.nationalgeographic.com/files/2014/03/the-grand-budapest-hotel-uk-quad-poster.jpg
I'm pretty sure this was the first Wes Anderson movie I ever saw, so I thought the whole look of it was very unique. Very funny and engaging with a stellar cast.
22. The Hateful Eight (2015)
https://indierevolver.files.wordpress.com/2015/12/hateful-eight-header-2-e1450230987265.png?w=800&h=408
This is my favorite Tarantino since Kill Bill Vol 1. Most of the movie takes place in one cabin but the dialogue and characters really make it enjoyable to watch, not to mention the wild events that unfold throughout the film.
21. Dredd (2012)
https://geekvsgoth.files.wordpress.com/2013/01/dredd_2012.jpg
An amazing, high-octane action film that's a blast to watch. I feel kinda proud that I was one of the very few people that actually saw this in theaters—as it bombed massively on its theatrical release.
20. Hacksaw Ridge (2016)
http://mauiwatch.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Hacksaw-Ridge-790x445.jpg
I don't really consider this a war film as much as a biopic of a great man who did something truly amazing. Running into a warzone without a gun or no way to defend yourself and saving 75 wounded soldiers is something that will probably never be equaled. Garfield did a great job of portraying Desmond Doss and Mel did a stellar job returning to the director's chair.
Grand Budapest isn't one of my very favourite Wes films but it is very good anyway. The Hateful Eight is very good too, it's my second favourite post-90s Tarantino after Inglorious Basterds.

Smaug is without a doubt the best movie dragon ever. His conversation with Bilbo was perfect and one of my favorite scenes. The rest of the movie was great fun as well!
18. The Jungle Book (2016)
http://www.beliefnet.com/columnists/moviemom/files/2016/04/the-jungle-book.jpg
One of the many Disney live-action (even though there wasn't much live-action) remakes of their old animated films. Most of the ones I've seen were pretty good but I was surprised with how great The Jungle Book was. The animals were really neat looking and were voiced by a top-notch cast. Even though I'm a fan of the original Disney Jungle Book, I have to say that this one may have surpassed it!
17. The Raid 2 (2014)

Just like the first Raid, The Raid 2 offers insane, chaotic, and insanely bloody action sequences—but now with more of a dramatic story. This is truly an action masterpiece that needs to be seen by anyone that enjoys the genre!
16. Tangled (2010)
http://www.impawards.com/2010/posters/tangled.jpg
The movie that truly started the Disney resurgence that we see today. Tangled is imo one of the funniest Disney movies and arguably one of the best. Flynn Rider and Maximus the horse are 2 of my favorite Disney characters as well. A great family film that I believe anyone could enjoy.

Write-up from my top 100 countdown:
Ryan Gosling's Driver has to be one of the coolest movie characters of the 21st century. Scenes of high tensioned car chases and excessively brutal violence accentuates the Driver's calm, righteous demeanor while trying to protect his new-found love interest and her beloved son from Jewish mobsters. An awesome film that caters to both mainstream action and art house movie fans.

Whiplash was good. Love Wreck It Ralph.
Whiplash is great. Teller does a pretty good job at keeping up with J.K. though he's, naturally, overshadowed. The ending alone makes it worth watching.

10. The Raid: Redemption (2011)
http://www.thenerdpocalypse.com/wp-content/uploads//2012/04/raid-redemption.jpg
This is a film that every action film fan MUST see. It has a simple plot but the perfect setup: a member of an elite special forces unit, with his team getting wiped out early, must travel to the top of a fifteen story apartment complex to take out a brutal crime lord. Along the way, some of the most crazy action and fighting sequences take place. This movie is just fun! fun! fun!
9. Prisoners (2013)
http://static.rogerebert.com/uploads/movie/movie_poster/prisoners-2013/large_wcJH9j3pYGioSE7peka2zwjJfaq.jpg
This is a top notch thriller by Dennis Ville... Villen... *looks up his name real quick* Dennis Villenueve! Who is quickly proving to be one of the most promising directors of the decade. Prisoners has amazing atmosphere that to me is reminiscent of Se7en, David Fincher's thriller masterpiece, and imo is just as good. Constant twists and turns that keep you guessing til the end, not to mention that Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal were amazing co-leads.
8. Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)
http://static.rogerebert.com/uploads/movie/movie_poster/mad-max-fury-road-2015/large_oQoIl0j4Lk6NFvOA0u7UREF8Sxm.jpg
I do believe that with a few more amazing action flicks, the 2010s could be the best decade for action movies since the 80s. It's crowning achievement so far is, imo, Mad Max: Fury Road. Much akin to its 1981 predecessor, Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior, Fury Road goes 0 to 100 right from the start and never lets up. Not only are the action sequences absolutely stellar, but they are also mainly done with practical effects. In this age of CGI, you gotta respect that!
7. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012)
http://www.bringthenoiseuk.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/The-Hobbit-640x480.jpg
Yes, I know I like this film more than you. :p
Being the massive LOTR fan that I was and still am, I was ridiculously hyped for this to come out back in December of 2012 (I had just read the book again as well) I was aware of the mixed reviews going in before hand, saying that it was a good film, but just short of being great. To me though, it was a great film. Martin Freeman is the perfect Bilbo, even surpassing Ian Holms portrayal, and it remain a faithful and very enjoyable adaptation of the book. Even though the next 2 films started taking massive liberties, An Unexpected Journey still took many of the very memorable parts of the book and translated them wonderfully onto the screen, most notably Bilbo and Gollum's Game of Riddles.
6. Nightcrawler (2014)
http://static.rogerebert.com/uploads/movie/movie_poster/nightcrawler-2014/large_ciARJx8fJqum8uh6gLePaNoyYNY.jpg
One of my favorite thrillers and Jake Gyllenhaal performances! Nightcrawler has an engaging and original plot about a young man (who's obviously a little off) armed with a camera and police scanner racing to crimes and accidents that just happened in order to capture grisly footage to sell to news stations. It's a very interesting watch seeing Lou Bloom going from a petty thief to a successful business man doing this peculiar profession. Every thriller fan must watch this one!

Big thumbs up for Mad Max: Fury Road. Definitely one of the best of the decade and barely missed my all time top ten. Haven't seen the rest, but I'm almost certain that I would hate The Hobbit.
I think its easy to judge the sequel for having only the bare bones of a plot but it certainly doesn't hurt. Still The Raid is pretty great, pure, action.
Seeing it's cast in The Force Awakens made me want to watch Gareth Evans directing a spin-off.
I like Prisoners too, though there are maybe three better Villeneuve movies from this decade. Gyllenhaal does great work. Apparently it was his idea to keep his character a mystery and it makes it all the better. Jackman's predilection for theatricality is put to good use as well. Hope he brought some of that to Logan.
Fury Road is awesome. Not sure what else I can add to it.
Never finished The Hobbit. I think I said all could with a previous entry.
Nightcrawler is also good. Like Michael Mann and Paul Schrader got together after watching Taxi Driver. That's my favorite from Gyllenhaal.

5. The Rover (2014)
http://theroverfilm.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/The-Rover-Movie-Poster-Art-Outtakes06.jpg
I can't tell you how underrated this movie is! A harrowing yet amazing and immersive film about a lone man wandering a post-apocalyptic wasteland looking for his stolen car. It has one of the most emotional endings I've ever seen, and is also one of my favorite endings of any movie. Here's what Quentin Tarantino himself had to say about this film:
"A mesmerizing visionary achievement. The best post-apocalyptic movie since the original Mad Max. With the one-two punch of 'The Rover' and 'Animal Kingdom,' David Michod proves himself to be the most uncompromising director of his generation."
4. The Town (2010)
http://static.rogerebert.com/uploads/movie/movie_poster/the-town-2010/large_zX4fKmDXKGt4hlzhAJirdlRKFgO.jpg
My favorite crime movie of the decade so far. The Town imo will always be Ben Affleck's masterpiece. It has a a rich and engaging story along with some awesome robbery and shootout scenes. Affleck is great in of course but I thought Jeremy Renner stole the show in this one. Reminiscent of great crime films like Heat and The Departed, I think this one ranks right up there with the best crime films of the 2000s.
Birdman (2014)
https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/fd/cf/60/fdcf605693e3da3700ca58e12ace4f4f.jpg
A tour de force that is one of the more unique BP winners of the decade. Birdman has an interesting plot with a washed-up superhero actor trying to regain the fame and glory he used to have by doing a broadway stage play in NYC. Every actor involved did an amazing job in their respective roles. The long takes and jazz drum score were awesome touches as well. All these elements came together to create an amazing film!
2. Zootopia (2016)
https://lumiere-a.akamaihd.net/v1/images/movie_poster_zootopia_866a1bf2.jpeg?region=0%2C0%2C300%2C450
After quite a few impressive films such as Tangled, Wreck-It Ralph, Frozen, and Big Hero 6, I really thought that Disney couldn't top any of those. I had high hopes for Zootopia after reading about it and seeing the trailer, but had no idea that I would like it quite as much as I would. This, to me, embodies everything that is great about Disney; a rich and imaginative world, great and likable characters, great humor, and underlying themes with great meaning. This is definitely top 3 on my favorite Disney chart, and also one of my favorite animated movies ever. Now Disney will have to come out with something really good to top this one!
1. The Revenant (2015)
http://www.impawards.com/2015/posters/revenant.jpg
And here it is... My favorite movie of the decade so far. This is the best looking movie I have ever seen, and much of that is due to the phenomenal cinematography of Emmanuel Lubezki. You can practically feel the chill of the North American frontier throughout the film, with its authentic locales and brutal story. The basic plot is based on true events, a trapper named Hugh Glass is attacked by a grizzly bear but survives, then the man who was assigned to look over him, John Fitzgerald, kills Glass' son and abandons him in the middle of the freezing wilderness, and Glass needs to survive on his own. Even though a lot of the elements are changed and/or added to add dramatic effect (it was actually summer in the real events; it was in the Dakota plains, not the rocky mountains, Glass never had a son etc.) but I thought it made the story that much greater! I feel like I have written too much already but let me just say that from beginning to end I was entranced by this film, Leonardo and Hardy were outstanding and this film was robbed of the BP win last year!

Whiplash and The Witch for me.
The Rover is sublime. The last revelation is much more devastating than anything that comes before and that's really saying something. It (and Cosmopolis) made a Robert Pattinson admirer.
The Town is quite good. I wouldn't really put it in my top ten or maybe even 100 but I understand it's appeal. It definitely earns its place among silent classics like Thief or The Friends of Eddie Coyle.
As I've said before, I like Birdman less now but I still have great admiration for it. It's nice to know that something so strange, impressionistic can be as successful and Keaton deserved the Oscar.
Zootopia is in my top ten of last year. Makes hopeful to know children are growing up with these kind of films and messages (which have Disney on a roll recently).
Revenant is wonderful. My favorite Iñárritu. A John Milius film through Tarkovsky's lense. It's a bit excessive but I don't fault it for it. The environments are meant to tower over the characters and the struggle. It all returns to nature, in the end. In god's hands.
Now, just for ***** and giggles, here's my (hastily made) top ten of the decade:
1. Inside Llewyn Davis

Very strong last five, those are all movies I enjoy, especially Birdman. The Rover does not get nearly as much attention that it deserves, it's great!

Prisoners, Nightcrawler and Birdman are all very good movies, but they aren't "favorite" movies for me.
I've only seen a small handful of movies from 2016 so far, but Zootopia is one of my favorites.
Didn't see (7) - Magnificent Seven, Tangled, Hardcore Henry, Dredd, Warcraft, How To Train your Dragon, Blood Father
Didn't care for(7) - The Rover, Hobbit films, A Million Ways to Die in the West, The Tree of Life, Sucker Punch
C - Green Room, Kings Speech, Spy, Frozen, La La Land, Take Shelter, Antman, Jungle Book
B - Argo, Spotlight, Deadpool, End of Watch, Civil War, Krampus, Grand Budapest Hotel, Hateful Eight, Raid 2, Hell or High Water, Mad Max, Birdman
A - Prisoners, Wreck it Ralph, 71', Witch, Django Unchained, Animal Kingdom, John Wick, Kingsmen, Hacksaw Ridge, Drive, Whiplash, Nightcrawler, Town, Zootopia, Revenant, True Grit
I'd recommend for you - Sicaro, Looper, The Salvation, Everest, Warrior, Blue Ruin, The Impossible, No Escape, The Hunter and Snowpiercer
