No better way to boost a television show's ratings than a big splashy wedding...of course, it doesn't always have to be big and splashy. Sometimes it's just two characters who have been together for a long time who need to make it official. However it comes about, there have been some pretty memorable TV weddings over the years and if they are available on You Tube, I will try to post the actual wedding here. The following are my favorite television weddings:

50.

Ted and Georgette, The Mary Tyler Moore Show

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AM93Ob2s2S8

I loved this wedding because it was off the cuff and no one was prepared for it...even the minister (John Ritter) came straight off the tennis court.

Good idea for a list! And I love your #50 choice. Ted and Georgette, The Mary Tyler Moore Show:up:

David and Darlene, Roseanne

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMh_dGuFVUE

A lovely ceremony climaxed with a troubling emergency.

48.

Mack and Karen, Knots Landing

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LKac6BNj0U&t=295s

Had to include one wedding from this show and this was my favorite...they really made the audience sweat on this one and provided some laughs along the way.

Gideon58

47.

Amanda and Prince Michael, Dynasty

No look at memorable TV weddings would be complete without this one.

Tony and Jeannie, I Dream of Jeannie

http://www.hooch.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/I-dream-of-Jeannie-wedding.jpg

I'm crushed that I could not find a decent tape of the actual wedding on You Tube but I had to include this one on the list because it was a memorable wedding that TPTB made us wait five seasons for. The wedding plans became complicated when it was revealed after four seasons that genies can't be photographed which can be a problem at a wedding but it was dealt with, the wedding happened, and the show died not long after.

45.

Derek and Meredith, Grey's Anatomy

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9mRzvj1tyQ

Their relationship was never ordinary and neither was their wedding...the only TV wedding done on a Post-it. Still not sure if it's legal, but it's all Derek and Meredith needed.

Gideon58
11-30-16, 04:26 PM

Cam and Mitchell, Modern Family

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PnpeewNbTg

Boy, they really made us wait on this one.

Whitley and Dwayne, A Different World

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t095dapDIbY

I'm a sucker for any wedding where either the bride or groom change before the ceremony is concluded. Forgive the poor quality of the tape...the only other one they had featured music instead of the dialogue.

Gideon58
11-30-16, 04:35 PM

Callie and Arizona, Grey's Anatomy

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9suuhU8zay4

My first prime time lesbian wedding.

Gideon58
11-30-16, 04:41 PM
41.

Jack and Rosario, Will & Grace

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKtI7DEwd3s

Again, forgive the poor quality of the tape, but this was one of prime time's funniest weddings...Rosario (Shelley Morrison) has been threatened with deportation so her employer Karen (Megan Mullally) offered Jack (Sean Hayes) a buttload of money to marry her so that she could stay in the country. The money and the chance to live in Karen's mansion combined to make an offer Jack couldn't refuse.

He married that genie in I Dream of Jeanie? Well, it can't be worse than Andrew McCarthy marrying Kim Cattrall the store mannequin at the end of Mannequin.

Gideon58
11-30-16, 04:52 PM

Julie and Max, One Day At a Time

Another TV wedding that started with one groom and ended with another.

He married her at the end of Mannequin? I don't remember that, I guess a re-watch is due...yes, Jeannie and Tony were married during the fifth and final season, which was pretty much the death of the show, but the wedding was great.

Well, it better be. If a magical genie can't have her own dream wedding, nobody can.

39.

Jules and Grayson, Cougar Town

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmHmTwkZIwo

I loved this wedding because the idea of the wedding actually didn't occur until this scene...I'm also a total sucker for an outdoor wedding.

Gideon58
11-30-16, 07:39 PM
38.

Erica and Jackson, All My Children

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjVKkfBB45A

Arguably, daytime drama's most well-known character, Erica (Susan Lucci) was married 10 times during the show's 41-years on the air and this was my favorite wedding of hers...the on location filming was a big asset.

Gideon58
11-30-16, 07:45 PM
37.

Mike and Susan, Desperate Housewives

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrquNeJ9fx8

Another lovely outdoor wedding that was a LONG time coming.

36.

Alexis and Cecil, Dynasty

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eeLNlx5-Me0

Alexis (Joan Collins) marries Cecil Colby (Lloyd Bochner) while he's in the hospital, convinced that he's going to die which would give her control of his company Colbyco.

Mike and Gloria, All in the Family

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xcHhtekboGI

Mike (Rob Reiner) and Gloria (Sally Struthers) were already married when All in the Family premiered, but we were not treated to the story of their wedding until a two-part flashback episode during season 3...the above clip is from part two.

Mike and Julie, Growing Pains

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gYxIIBm21U

I thought this wedding was a lot of fun and whoever saw Mike Seaver (Kirk Cameron) actually committing to a single woman?

Jackie and Fred, Roseanne

http://www.justmommies.com/blog/wp-content/plugins/wp-o-matic/cache/aa9e8_roseanne4.jpg

Couldn't find an actual tape of the show, but had to include the only TV wedding I recall where the bride was breastfeeding during the ceremony.

Crystal and Ed, Roseanne

http://l7.alamy.com/zooms/6e2d09a5dac040cfaaad2334b0eded66/ned-beatty-natalie-west-john-goodman-roseanne-roseanne-1988-bpd615.jpg

Couldn't find a decent image of this wedding anywhere. Roseanne discovers while matchmaking for BFF Crystal (Natalie West), that she has been dating Dan's father, Ed (Ned Beatty) without telling Dan or Roseanne. It gets more complicated when Ed reveals that he has proposed to Crystal and that Crystal is already pregnant. My favorite line in the entire episode is by Crystal when she finishes walking down the aisle.

Gideon58
12-02-16, 06:41 PM
28.

Thelma and Rheuben, Amen

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sy2Po7nSj-M

Thelma (Anna Maria Horsford) devoted her entire existence to getting Reverend Reuben Gregory (Clifton Davis) to marry her and when the day finally came, the good reverend actually passed out at the altar. The clip above is the conclusion which finally got Thelma what she wanted. Again, excuse the poor quality of the tape.

Charlotte and Harry, Sex and the City

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61YHUim7UOI&index=7&list=PLLscCADbqjX4tVekgcBTBH-9Z_vCinr1A

Charlotte (Kristen Davis) bounced back from her marriage to Trey (Kyle MacLachlan) by falling in love with the lawyer (Evan Handler) who handled her divorce. Loved this couple and this wedding.

26.

Carol Kester and Larry Bondurant, The Bob Newhart Show

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/af/Bob_Newhart_Show_Carols_Wedding_1975.JPG

I had to include this wedding primarily because I loved the romance that proceeded it...it was wonderfully watching the romantically-challenged Carol (the late Marcia Wallace) finally find someone and I like the way these two fell in love instantly and wasted NO time in making it legal.

Gideon58
12-03-16, 12:41 PM
25.

Miranda and Steve, Sex and the City

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foAbhRN8sn4

This wedding had a certain laid back quality to it and didn't take it too seriously and I loved the venue they chose.

Gideon58

Andy Taylor and Helen Crump, The Andy Griffith Show

http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/mayberry/images/2/2b/RFD1_wedding_andy.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20160508194713

Andy Griffith decided to hang up Sheriff Andy's badge after close to a decade but CBS didn't want to lose the audience so the show was morphed into Mayberry RFD starring Ken Berry. There was no better way to launch the new show than with the wedding of Andy and Helen (Aneta Corseau).

Alan Quartermaine and Lucy Coe, General Hospital

https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/564x/f0/c6/8e/f0c68e2ce36acbf7d8279552f9bcc497.jpg

This wedding was more of a business arrangement rather than the consummation of a great passion...Lucy (Lynn Herring) wanted to get her hand on Quartermaine money and Alan (Stuart Damon) was in the process of his umpteenth breakup with Monica (Leslie Charleson). Only TV wedding I recall where the bride wore fire engine red.

Gideon58
12-06-16, 05:56 PM

Marcia and Wally and Jan and Phillip, The Brady Bunch

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ewaDApDcS5c/ULXUBx7zvGI/AAAAAAAAIfE/5AhXjEyK14M/s1600/bradygirlsgetmarried.jpg

I'm cheating a little here, because this double wedding did not occur on the show, but seven years after the cancellation of the show in a TV movie called The Brady Girls Get Married but not including this wedding here just would have been wrong.

20.

Schmidt and CeCe, New Girl

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5iX5j4W1ws

We watched this couple break up and make up a lot, and we watched everyone loves Schmidt (Max Greenfield) and CeCe (Hannah Simone) tried to stop this wedding from happening and I loved the fact that CeCe's mother refused to accept Schmidt as a son-in-law and Schmidt would not go on with the wedding without CeCe's mother present.

Phoebe and Mike, Friends

https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/21/a8/84/21a884583653f6587e3084ce53ba37b8.jpg

The wedding was the majority of the show's pilot episode...the boys' dog, Tiger and the girls' cat (whatever happened to that cat?) destroyed the wedding cake and this is probably the only honeymoon where the kids accompanied the bride and groom.

Kevin and Scotty, Brothers and Sisters

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6GRh1p3TTI

Some may question the high placement of this one, but there was never a TV character more overdue for a real romance (Kevin) nor was there ever a character who worked harder at making the man he loved admit he felt the same (Scotty).

8.

Rhoda and Joe, Rhoda

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Ku_qjwUaek

This was such a special wedding to me and I was thrilled to find the entire two part episode on You Tube and have posted the entire thing...yes, it's all here...from the arrival of Mary, Lou, Murray, and Phyllis from Minneapolis to Manhattan to Phyllis forgetting to pick Rhoda up at the church and of course, Rhoda's memorable journey through the streets and subways of Manhattan to get to the church on time. There is a school of thought that the marriage of this character was the beginning of the death of the show, but what a way to go...for those who have never seen this...enjoy.

 for Leslie and Ben, Jim and Pam, Marshal and Lilly. Ross And Emily too, i thought Emily was an awful character but the actual wedding episodes were good: London Baby! Monica and Chandler was great too, you just added that while i was posting this.

Phoebe and Mike was terrible though, really surprised you included that. Awful story, barely any good jokes and Monica has never been less likable than that episode.

HIMYM ran dry pretty quickly for me. At some point it was just too many annoying characters to be in a single show. But these two? I especially wanted to smack these two.

Nancy and Arnie, Roseanne

https://ohbriggsy.files.wordpress.com/2010/03/arnie-hipster.jpg

Of all the characters, I hated Lily the most. But Marshall was annoying in the fact that he was basically a living, breathing doormat.

I could see that. Personally i can't think of anything major that Marshall or Robin did that was unlikable but the doormat thing i can see. I find Marshall very likable and funny for most of the shows run personally.

Way too long, taking things way too serious HIMYM post:

IMO, Marshall and Robin were the only consistently likable characters. But i also think Robin made me laugh the least while Marshall along with Barney probably made me laugh fhe most which is why he is my favourite.

Lilly was just terrible, won't go through them all but some terrible Lily things:

She left for San Francisco which in all honesty was fair enough, it was her dream and she didn't make the decision lightly so i can't blame her there. But the only reason she returned was because she failed in San Francisco and she honestly thought she could just waltz back in with Marshall like nothing happened. Truth be told the way the story is told it seems like if she was successful there she would never have came back and would have made a new life without him.

Then later on in the show Marshalls dad who he was incredibly close to dies which puts him into a deep depression. So of course Lily decides that she can't deal with him and that she is going to abandon him when he needs her most by moving to Spain and... without telling him. The only reason she stays is because she forgets something and has to go back to her apartment where she sees that Marshall isn't depressed anymore.

Then later she gets offered a job in Rome so she of course takes it without allowing Marshall any input on this major decision. Marshall is then offered his dream job as a judge so he does the same as she did and just takes it. And somehow Lily with her past actions as well as her doing the exact same thing feels that she has the right to be mad with him.

Then two things she did with Ted before i never stop . Not long after she has came back from San Francisco she is unemployed so Ted goes out of his way to get her a job as his assisstant. To repay him she steals his bosses autographed valuable baseball to teach him a lesson because she saw how "mean" he was to his employees. Even after he threatens to fire an employee every day she still refuses to give it back, which when you look at it is her risking her friends who got her this job (which doesn't really matter to her since it is only supposed to be until she gets on her feet) and his coworkers careers. Then there's also the thing about her purposefully breaking up all of Teds relationships including with Robin for years. Terrible character.

Ted is just really whiny and selfish throughout the show. And Barney.... well Barney is a rapist. I know it is a sitcom and it's played for laughs/ supposed to be outrageous. But the truth is that is what he'd be in real life as on multiple occasions he got girls very drunk while sober himself which means they couldn't give consent, and he also got them into bed on false pretenses on multiple occasions. Some of it was funny but some of it just came across pure slimey.

This post would lead you to believe i'm a much bigger HIMYM fan than i actually am

MonnoM
12-14-16, 08:52 PM
Ha, I agree with most of that. I don't think Lily had any redeeming qualities, just pure garbage of a character. I definitely agree about Ted. His constant whining and childlike demeanor got old really fast.

I've noticed it's a pattern with the yuppie sitcoms. Those characters generally don't appeal to me.

Andy Spiowicz (Dennis Franz) would definitely be in my top five list of TV characters I thought would never get married, so watching this wedding come to fruition was a real pleasure for me and the chemistry between Franz and Sharon Lawrence, who played Sylvia, was surprisingly steamy.

Finally down to # 2...I have to confess, I went a little overboard here with 50...there are at least a dozen weddings on this thread that I could have gone without posting, but once I committed to 50, it was kind of hard to backtrack, but my # 1 never changed...OK, here we go..my # 1 favorite TV wedding:

1.

Luke and Laura, General Hospital

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HhHu-sJzMdg

Yeah, it was on a soap opera, but it was on a soap opera that redefined the genre and brought a lot of soap opera viewers out of the closet. We spent close to two years watching Luke (Anthony Geary) and Laura (Genie Francis), from their memorable yet questionable first sexual encounter on the floor of a disco, to going on the run from a gangster named Frank Smith, to their adventure on Cassadine Island where Luke actually saved the entire planet from being frozen to death, this was the wedding that everybody was waiting for and everybody watched, even people who didn't watch General Hospital watched this wedding. This was an unprecedented event and I actually found the entire two-episode event on You Tube, including the initial appearance of Helena Cassadine (the late Elizabeth Taylor). If you've never seen it...enjoy.

Hope someone enjoyed the thread.
