The pilot for this new sitcom was pretty much a one-joke premise that grew tiresome about ten minutes in and I'm pretty sure the one joke is not enough to sustain this series past Thanksgiving. The show stars Katy Mixon (Mike and Molly) as a wife and mother of three whose mission during the pilot was to find a fat woman to move into the house across the street so that she will not be the second fattest resident of Westport Connecticut and that is the thin premise upon which this pilot hung. Apparently, the geniuses behind this show have decided the only way to justify the casting of chunky Mixon in the lead is by reminding us every two seconds that the actress is chunky and not only is she chunky, but she has no intention of changing that. On the surface, the sitcom appeared to be a New Millenium reboot of Roseanne, but this character's entire through line seems to be "I'm fat and I'm not going to do anything about it and you better like me anyway" and Roseanne Conner was never like that. Now maybe all the fat talk was just to set up the character in the pilot because if this is all this show has behind it, concept wise, it's already played out, but I am willing to watch one more episode which will be the acid test. Mixon is funny and I love Deidrich Bader (The Drew Carey Show) who's playing her husband but I don't know if even he can save this...the show might have a chance if the writers can come up with something besides fat jokes.
