MOFO HALLOWEEN
CHAT EXTRAVAGANZA
2016

During the chat for The Two Towers in Rodent's Lord of the Rings Weekend Bash, I mentioned that it might be a good idea to open the chat room on HALLOWEEN and watch horror movies for awhile.

YODA thought it was a solid idea.

WHAT movies do you all want to watch on Halloween?

I'm thinking maybe three or four (or more?) movies.... beginning sometime maybe in the early evening and going on into the night.

This thread is here to get your opinions and recommendations on those movies. Sometime later, if everything's cool, an official list with times and everything will be completed. For now, just tell us what movies you're interested in watching if you can be here on Halloween night (October 31st, 2016).

I watch The Exorcist every Halloween but i don't think that would be good for a chat. Halloween was the best suggestion in the chat IMO.

Hi, Sexy! How've you been?

One year a kid with no costume came to my door.
After he said "trick or treat" I asked, "What are you supposed to be?"
"The Invisible Man!" he said.
"But I can see you," I told him.
He responded, "No, that's the kid behind me with no costume!"

He got an extra piece of candy for having a good line prepared and for being a little wise a$$.

The serious suggestions in the chat were:

Halloween, The Evil Dead Trilogy, The Thing, Scream. There was something else but i don't know how to go back that far in the chat.

I said - for this chat - everyone should (if they want to, of course....) change their avatar to be their "Halloween costume" for the night.

Several old classic options

Pit & the Pendulum (1961) with Vincent Price
Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde (1931) the one with Fredric March

also, an Elvira film would be a fun choice

Ok to just talk about the holiday in general in here? :) Halloween is gaining in popularity big-time, and Christmas is becoming more and more the most expensive bill of the year. There are folks that dread Christmas more than income tax season, no joke.

Halloween - The cool holiday but not too cold.

Some ideas for fun horror movies that don't involve allot of investment:

Tucker and Dale Vs Evil
You're Next
Re-Animator
Evil Dead 2
Trick r Treat
Krampus
Misery

Or some corny hilariously bad ones to rip on and have a good time with:
Like Jason X, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Jaws: The Revenge, IT, etc.

Why do you guys keep recommending comedic horror films? Not that I'm against comedic horror films, just not really.... those.

Camo

Trick r Treat is great SC. It's an Anthology film like Creepshow but better IMO. Dylan Baker is in it! If we do two i think it'd be good having a comedic one as well as a serious one.

I doubt that.

I must say -- I'm kinda against Scream. Since you recommended it. I like that movie and I'd be fine with watching it, I guess, but.... I've seen all the Scream movies a million times in movie commentaries, and I kinda feel like Scream isn't scary enough for Halloween night. I wanna watch scary things. Maybe even gory things.

That's cool. I just threw Scream out because most people seem to like it, i wasn't passionate about it or anything. I don't find any films scary anymore but i'd say a comedy one and a scary one would be a good idea.

Camo
10-02-16, 08:26 PM
My favourite suggestions so far are Trick R Treat, Halloween and The Thing in that order. I definitely think a comedy-horror followed by a proper "scary" one is a good idea. Obviously i've made it clear i'm supporting Trick R Treat but if other people aren't feeling that then i still think it would be a good idea to have a different comedy one.

Star Wars was mine but LOTR was Sean's and then he buggered off and left me to run it :D

HELL..... I've seen how that chat room goes. Frankly, people could theoretically watch whatever they want, comment on what they're watching, and it doesn't matter if not everyone is watching the same thing.

I could write up a list of what I'd like to watch, but that doesn't mean you really need to follow along with those movies.

Hocus Pocus is a ridiculously good suggestion. It isn't really a good film but it is completely absurd and would be fun to chat about, it is kind of the middle ground between watching something terrible and something really serious, we'd be able to make fun of it plenty while also actually enjoying watching some of it.

I'd say that is #2 in my picks so far.

MY PROPOSAL:

I propose that the chat room is open ALL DAY on Halloween. That way, people in countries that aren't the United States can watch movies when the time is good for them.

The chat room can then close at night -- maybe around midnight, Yoda's time. Maybe later into the night, if he can manage it. Whatever he can deal with.

I think people should watch whatever they want. Maybe they can get someone else to watch the movie with them.

People can decide on what to watch then. Jump into the chat room and just watch a scary movie by yourself and talk about it if you want. Or get someone else to watch it with you. Basically, just have the chat room open for Halloween. That's what I propose. 'Cause I kinda hate deciding for people on what to watch on Halloween. I mean, who does that? It's a holiday -- pick your own damn movie. I just propose having the chat room open. Just for that day. I'm not saying let's have the chat room open all the time. Just have it open on Halloween/Halloween Night.

Halloween is Monday, October 31st.

But.... since it is right after a weekend.... maybe the chatroom could be open on Saturday (October 29th), Sunday (October 30th) and Monday (October 31st)?

Three nights of scary movies. Maybe two movies each night for a total of 6 movies?

There are many choices to consider, I know everyone loves The Thing. It has elements I like too, for all its cool vibes its also just a bunch of dudes sitting around in their isolated snow camp. Which doesn't really make for awesome sidechat. I'll throw Jennifer's Body out there as my pick, since these movies should be more social

Rocky Horror doesn't interest you?

Why was Friday The 13th VII picked? I'm not bothered by it, it's just really random.

It was a surprise to me, too. Well, you know - "Random" is my middle name. I'm a bit worried 'cause I haven't seen anyone say they'd make that one. But I think it would be fun. It's a horror legend - Jason - and I think it would be an entertaining movie for a chat. I considered the other Friday the 13th's - especially parts 3 and 8 - but I felt like going with this one. It's the one with the girl who has telekinetic powers and she battles Jason. So, it's like Carrie. Part VII was actually supposed to be Freddy vs. Jason. It was originally going to come out back then. That's why the storyline is Jason versus telekinetic girl. They switched Freddy to the girl.

Does anyone else have any problems or concerns?

Yeah. Its good to go with a group opinion. Friday The 13th Part whatever is a waste of time, Evil Dead 1 was so forgettable they used the same actors in the masterpiece sequel. Hocus Pocus?! You might as well have Nightmare Before Christmas eligible. I go away for a couple days and everything goes to pot... laptop binned itself and I had to send it away.

There's no way I can host as I don't have the movies in question... but I'd hate to see a weekend get cancelled.

If anyone can take up hosting, please step forward :D
I can certainly hang around and help with anything needed and give backup to the host... but with actual hosting because I don't have the movies, I can't time anything or keep track of where the movies are.
