Just struggled through the pilot for Kevin Can Wait, the nothing-to-write-home-about new sitcom for Kevin James (The King of Queens). Kevin is a retired cop, marred with three kids who has done a Powerpoint presentation on how he and his other retired work buddies (Lenny Venito, Leonard Earl Howze, Carlos Alazraqui, Christopher Brian Roach) how their going to enjoy their retirement but his schedule is put on hold when he learns his eldest daughter (Taylor Spreightler) is engaged to a nerd (Ryan Cartwright) so to make sure his daughter stays in school, he offers to have his daughter and her fiancee move in with them. This one stretches James' appeal to its limits, suffers from rather pedestrian writing, and his chemistry with Errin Hayes, who plays his wife, hasn't gelled yet, but it's only the pilot. I think if CBS is feeling generous, it might get a full season.
