This film gathered approximately $122,147,772 in theaters plus $5,644,289 in DVD’s and Bluray according to The Numbers. Shown in cinemas last 2014, The Theory of Everything by James Marsh tackles the life-story of the great Professor Stephen Hawking. The movie showed his relationship with his wife, Jane whom also the writer of the film with Anthony McCarter.
The story begins in Cambridge where Stephen studies to get his Doctorate Degree. There he met Jane, also a student. Their love story proved the saying "Opposite Attracts", Jane have a strong belief in God while Stephen being scientifically inclined don't even want to go to a church. After introducing Jane to his family, Stephen makes a boundary between him and Jane after discovering that he has ALS and he can only live for 2 years. But this cause Jane to prove how much she love Stephen. They got married. The couple becomes happy especially when Jane bore a son. The film showed all the hardships of Jane in taking care of Stephen and their three children. On the other hand, Stephen's disease also affects his lungs, for him to live they removed his vocal chords. After that, he feels hopeless but Elaine gave him a boost. That time he developed his greatest work called, A Brief History of Time which sold up to millions of copies. Jane that time let go of a man named Jonathan just to take care of Stephen. The time comes and they talk to each other, Stephen let go of Jane.
The story line is not as you expect from its title, it sounds so scientific. But the scene of Jane meeting Jonathan, I know exactly that Jane will fall for him. q But the story itself is the exact story of Stephen's life. I can see the respect when Eddie Redmayne portrayed Stephen Hawking in a realistic and full of heart manner. He didn't exaggerate his actions for people to laugh at. Personally, I can feel all the emotions the characters give in. This film is advisable to everyone because the provocative scenes are just a kiss. Also, the story of Stephen Hawking shows that greatness can't be stopped by illness. For those people who are special (its more appropriate than calling them people with disabilities), be inspired with this story. Nothing can stop you from dreaming as long as you believe, you can accomplish anything. If you are wondering what happen to Jane and Stephen well they already have 3 grandchildren. Jane is now married with Jonathan while Prof. Hawking still do his research and he hope can visit the outer space soon.

I saw this when it was initially released and enjoyed it. Being an amateur physics fan, I've always been amazed at Hawking. He hasn't always been verified in his theories, but he's advanced the science and used his situation to increase the general public awareness of cosmology. I don't think there's any way that you can not consider his condition to be not just a disability, but an extreme disability. What's amazing about the man is that he found a way to have a life that's more productive than most of could ever imagine, even with "normal" bodies. He could have sunk into despair or done like some people who had his problem, which is to commit suicide when things get bad, but instead, he's moved on and become a more of a universally recognized celebrity than any physicist since Einstein.

If you liked this, you might like Particle Fever, about the Large Hadron Collider. There's no one charismatic person like Hawking, but it also has real physicists as "stars". When I saw that, it was a local presentation that attracted a lot of physicists from Johns Hopkins. One of the characters was one of theirs. I'd never been to a physics movie before, much less a physics movie mainly attended by physicists. They are not the usual movie crowd.

I thought the acting was great-but the movie itself is pretty meh and forgettable..Its definitly a sugarcoated take on what happened and it never really pulled me in.

It's definitely a treacly British biopic, but how often do you see a movie about physics? You gotta take the when you can get them.

haha true..but hes actually got a pretty marvelous lifestory-for the good and the bad...I just dont think they were able to bring that to the screen in the right way..Maybe because it only touches on subjects without going all in.
