The Draft
Okay, so, we don't have a ton of time this year: just a couple of weeks until the draft. The weekend just before the first game is Labor Day weekend, so that's probably out, so this August date is almost certainly going to have to be it, because otherwise we'd be drafting in a week, and that's pretty rough on anyone who wants to do any prep.

So the date is Saturday August 27th: 12:00 PM ET.

That said, here's the list of owners, though I assume donnie's going to change his team name at some point rather than keep Badger's.

The Teams

11 Angry Men (Yoda)
Bald Beavers (LTIZZY)
Beantown Champs (Piledriver/Pete)
Censored Clowns (Captain Spaulding)
Little Machines (Sedai)
Lord of the Rings (rauldc14)
Los Pollos Hermanos (jiraffe)
Mud Dogs (seanc)
Silly Nannies (mikeython1)
PlasticPads&IronMen (TONGO)
The Empire (Fabulous)
The Milford Men (Frightened Inmate No. 2)
Discount Chiefs (spudracer)
Hired Goons (donniedarko)

See the post just after this one for a breakdown of tweaks to standard scoring, possible rule changes, etc.

League Settings
To see the full list of settings, head on over to to the league site (http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/league/movieforums/settings) on Yahoo and browse the Scoring & Settings (http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/f1/371134/settings) page. Make sure you're familiar with the rules before the draft. But by way of summary, it's mostly standard scoring with a few moderate tweaks:
Half-PPR
6 points per passing TD
Passing INTs are -2 instead of -1
Extra bench slot
That's pretty much it. No IDP, kick returns, or plateau bonuses. We've been rolling with this basic settings for a few years now and it seems to work well: it requires reasonably balanced rosters, and tweaking the scoring a little means we all have to work a little harder to determine value relative to the millions of ranking sites out there.

Playoffs
14 teams works great because we have a 13 week regular season, which means everyone plays everyone else once. Top two seeds get a Bye in the first week of the playoffs, and we have playoff reseeding turned on. We lock eliminated teams, though, so while there's a Consolation Bracket for people who get knocked out, only teams still alive in the "real" bracket get to make pickups (simply because it would be weird to have a player blocked from making a move in the MoFo Bowl because someone playing for 9th or something got to them first).

Rule Changes
It's been suggested that the trade veto period be one day rather than two, and I'm inclined to agree. We made this switch in baseball and it seems fine, since the day the trade is accepted doesn't count towards that period. I can't remember if we enacted it last year in football, too, but I'll go ahead with it unless someone objects. So, if you object, you've got a few days to say so! :)

If you have any other rule change suggestions, post them ASAP.

And one last thing...

The Movie Contest
Each year a handful of owners agree to send the winner a movie (DVD/Blu-ray, whatever). Doesn't have to be new or anything, and you can use it to make them watch something you like. :D It's opt-in, but it works both ways: you're only eligible to "win" movies from the other participating owners if you opt in yourself. We usually get about half the league to go for it.

I'm in. Anyone else?

TONGO

I thought the trade processed in one day already in the football league.

Is there a way we can lessen the time a player clears waivers, shorten it by a day?

Sounds like there's not much biting on the DVD game this year. Last chance: if anyone else wants in, let me know this week, or forever hold your peace.

Ditto for any proposed rule changes or deviations from what's on the site now.

Assuming no issues, I can determine the draft order basically whenever. Any objection to doing it soon? I'd just do it randomly like last year and post the results as I go in a new thread.

Gonna determine draft order very shortly, if nobody objects (nobody has yet). That'll let people do their last handful of mocks from their actual position. It will, like last year, still be totally random.

Also, unrelated, but the draft for the money league is also on Saturday (a few hours later), and unfortunately I didn't hear back from a bunch of people until recently, and it turns out we're two short as a result. So if anyone's on the fence, please consider joining so we can still go forward with that league. :) It's a lot of fun, doesn't cost much, etc. And it's nice to play in a smaller league, too, since this 14-team one can be brutal on depth! Thanks.

Yoda
08-23-16, 12:49 PM
Okay, so, for the draft order, I'm starting with a list of the teams as they appear for me by default on Yahoo, which is like this (this is not the draft order, it's just to assume each team a number for random drawing):

11 Angry Men (Yoda)
Bald Beavers (LTIZZY)
Beantown Champs (Piledriver/Pete)
Censored Clowns (Captain Spaulding)
Little Machines (Sedai)
Lord of the Rings (rauldc14)
Los Pollos Hermanos (jiraffe)
Mud Dogs (seanc)
Silly Nannies (mikeython1)
PlasticPads&IronMen (TONGO)
The Empire (Fabulous)
The Milford Men (Frightened Inmate No. 2)
Discount Chiefs (spudracer)
Hired Goons (donniedarko)

That means my team number is 1, LTIZZY's is 2, etc...all the way down to donniedarko at 14. I'll get a random number between 1-14 from www.random.org, and that determines who picks first. The next number determines who picks second, and so on. For example: if the fist number is 9, the first pick goes to the ninth team on this list (mikeython1's Silly Nannies). His team is then removed from the list (TONGO's team becomes the new ninth team), I pick a random number between 1-13, and we repeat the process.

I'll be starting in just a few minutes.

The NFL rosters are so random season to season, the first round of the draft changes alot from year to year now. Regardless what people think or experts project, AP is one of the "last men standing" being the primary RB for Minnesota still. Seems like all teams now go with a duo to lessen the risk. If she picked him, he may surprise for the good.

Let's do this!

Sadly, our second computer has gone down for the count, so LT has no way of joining the draft this afternoon. We were going to try to swap back and forth with two browsers and one set of mouse and keys, but she would rather not deal with the back and forth while trying to research and adjust on the fly to the draft. So, it's autopick for her!

Captain Spaulding
08-27-16, 08:58 PM
I'm pretty satisfied with my team. I never thought AP would fall to me at 12th. I don't buy all this talk of him falling off a cliff because he's 31. The guy nearly broke the season-rushing record after coming off a torn ACL and MCL. He's a freak athlete. Even if there's a decline in productivity, I still expect him to be one of the best at his position. Jeremy Langford is a question mark, but I'll happily take a three-down starting back late in the 5th round, even if he is an average talent on a bad team. Very happy to have Gio Bernard as my FLEX, especially with our scoring format. Charles Sims is a poor man's Danny Woodhead and Bilal Powell is a poor man's Charles Sims. Both guys get a major boost with .5 PPR, and both have the talent to excel if forced into a starting gig.

I usually wait late to get a QB, but with 14 teams and 6 points per TD, I couldn't pass up Andrew Luck, who has the potential to finish #1 at his position. I'm in love with Mike Evans. I think he's poised for a huge year. Not as over-the-moon about my other WRs. I think Golden Tate catches a ton of passes with Megatron out of the picture, but I kinda regret not picking Doug Baldwin in that round. Crabtree put up better numbers last year than people realize. I'm happy where I landed him. Kamar Aiken and Rishard Matthews are #1 WRs on bad offenses, so not a lot of upside, but decent floors. Not happy with Eric Ebron as my TE, but he's serviceable. My favorite pick is Christine Michael in the 13th round. I literally patted myself on the back after that one. He's looked excellent this pre-season, and with Rawls coming off ankle surgery, I think Michael is the type of late-round flier who could potentially pay major dividends.

Thoughts on everyone's teams:

11 Angry Men: Excellent depth that I'm sure Yoda will use as trade bait to make his team even stronger. Only real question mark is his QB situation. I've had several shares of Stafford over the years, enticed by his passing volume, and he's always frustrated the hell out of me with his inconsistency. Without Calvin Johnson, he's hard to trust. I'd like to see RG3 bounce back this season, but I don't have much faith in that actually happening or in RG3 staying healthy.

Bald Beavers: Last year, I picked her to finish last, and I don't think she won a single game. That won't be the case this year. Her depth in RB/WR is lacking due to auto-draft, but I like her starting roster a lot, especially if Ryan Mathews can stay healthy. I think Eddie Lacey has the potential to be a top-five back this year.

Beantown Champs: Pretty weak team, in my opinion. Dion Lewis is going to miss half the season, and the only other RBs on the team are Melvin Gordon and Theo Riddick. Not good, even though I think Gordon will be much improved from last year. I like Tyrod Taylor quite a bit, but with only one season as a starter under his belt, I'd be nervous about him as my #1 QB with only Cutler on the bench. I like his primary WRs, but depth at every position is lacking. My pick to finish last.

Little Machines: Excellent team, one of the best in the league. No real weaknesses. I think CJ Anderson and Jeremy Hill have bounce-back seasons. Rashad Jennings, Sterling Shepherd, Crowell and Vincent Jackson were all great picks in the mid-to-late rounds. Jared Cook is an interesting sleeper now that he's in Green Bay.

Lord of the Rings: Romo's down for the count, but Dalton put up very good numbers last year. I expect that to change a bit this year with so many of his top receiving options gone, but he's serviceable. I don't have enough confidence in Hyde to invest in him myself, but I think he could be pretty good in Chip Kelly's offense. Gore is boring but reliable. I think DaVante Parker and Funchess could have breakout seasons. I know you hate your team, rauldc, but with a few nice pick-ups off the waiver wire, things could break your way. Don't throw in the towel.

Los Pollos Hermanos: I think Eli Manning has been undervalued in fantasy for awhile now. With Eifert hurt and Marvin Jones and Sanu no longer on the team, I think AJ Green will catch somewhere around 500 passes this season. LeVeon and Josh Gordon waiting to go ballistic once they return from suspensions. I don't trust DeMarco Murray and Abdullah, but we'll see. Lots of interesting sleepers that I know little to nothing about. I could see this team being great or being terrible.

Mud Dogs: Don't like his bench (although Coates is a sexy sleeper), but decent starting roster. OBJ, Watkins and Moncrief make for a very good receiving trio. Ingram should have a big season. Matt Jones could turn out to be a great value given the number of touches he should receive this season, but I don't trust him. I like Julius Thomas a lot. I expect Bortles to take a step back this year. Much of his production last year came late in games when the team was in catch-up mode, but I expect the Jags to be much better defensively and to have more of a run game with Ivory in town.

Silly Nannies: Good team. Lots of upside, lots of potential. I was planning on drafting Lamar Miller in the first round before AP fell to me. I think Miller has the potential to be just as good in Houston as Arian Foster used to be. I fear Matt Forte is going to be a bust this season, but it wouldn't shock me if I'm wrong and he has a very good year. Good WR trio. I was hoping to land Zach Miller myself. Kevin White, Ajayi and Blount all have the potential to pay dividends. Plus, you know, Superman.

PlasticPads&IronMen: The duo of Charles and Devonta Freeman could be scary. The only knock on Charles is his ability to stay healthy, but when he's playing, he's as good as any RB in the league. I know Freeman slowed down in the second half last year, but I'm still surprised that he isn't going higher in drafts. My sixth sense tell me that Edelman and Fitzgerald suffer drop-offs this year, but my sixth sense is usually wrong. Love the TE. Love Tavon Austin as a breakout candidate. I think Marvin Jones is going to have a solid season as Detroit's new deep threat. And Brees is still one of the best. Very strong team.

The Empire: Nice starting roster, but lackluster bench. (I feel like that describes most of the auto-draft teams.) Elliot and Rawls could have monster seasons. Love Brandon Cooks. Love Big Ben. Like Jordan Matthews and Ivory. Antonio Gates continues to put up respectable numbers year in and year out, plus Bennett on the bench could do interesting things once Brady comes back, and he'd have a huge year should something happen to Gronk.

The Milford Men: One of the stronger teams. Love Jeffrey/Cooper. Love Gurley/Latavius. Rivers is undervalued in fantasy nowadays. I expect good things from Travis Benjamin and Sanu. Eifert will miss a few weeks, but he's a beast when healthy. The only thing I dislike about this team is the wasted bench spots on a kicker and defense, but I hope you everyone continues to do that since it makes my job easier.

Discount Chiefs: The good (Rodgers, Nelson, Maclin, Barnidge, Hurns) is outweighed by the bad (no depth, no RB that's even a starter on their own team). I had Duke Johnson last year and I think he's a sneaky good player with .5 PPR, but he should be a FLEX, not a number one. The only WR on the bench is Green-Beckham, who is still learning the offense.

Hired Goons: Once again, the bottom part of the bench leaves a lot to be desired, but I like this team a lot. Keenan Allen was having an extraordinary season before he went down with the injury. David Johnson was unstoppable once he took over the job in AZ. I expect TY Hilton to have a very good year with Luck back behind center. Jarvis Landry makes for an excellent FLEX; great talent, and sees a lot of targets. Very good QB situation with Palmer/Winston. The main question is that second RB spot. DeAngelo will be great the first three weeks, but once Bell is back, you can't rely on him as a starter. But with the right trade or waiver-wire pickup, Hired Goons has the potential to be one of the best teams in the league.

Best teams (in no order): 11 Angry Men; Little Machines; Silly Nannies; PlasticPads&IronMen; The Milford Men; Hired Goons.

Worst: Beantown Champs; Discount Chiefs.

Champion: Censored Clowns :D

Go to the Final 2 years in a row. Is the 3rd time the charm?

QB Drew Brees
WR Julian Edelman
WR Larry Fitzgerald
RB Jamaal Charles
RB Davonta Freeman
TE Delanie Walker
WRT Marvin Jones Jr
K Justin Tucker
D Pittsburgh

WR Tavon Austin
RB Justin Forsett
RB CJ Spiller
TE Jason Witten
QB Ryan Tannehill
K & D Dustin Hopkins/Washington

Brees is the man in New Orleans, the only player on the Saints that consistently earns points week to week. They spread that ball around like it was golden butter.

Edelman will earn large with Bradys return, and Fitz...unless he physically isnt what he was last year, he will repeat last years production because he is an A-list top tier talent.

My hopes and dreams lie on my running game, my big gamble on Jamaal Charles and Davonta Freeman. Charles looks like fragile china teetering off a table, but what if hes healthy this year? Then he looks alot better. See no reason why Davonta cant earn again, I mean, hes not gonna get weaker as he goes along season to season ;) Hes proven himself the RB with the upside in Atlanta.

Delanie Walker & Marvin Jones.....very excited to see what theyre capable of. Feel very confident in my high upside bench, and may even make less moves than last year (19) :)

Picking 14 was pretty brutal. I usually don't mind picking last because you get the immediate bounce back pick but in a 12 team league not 14. It also did not help having so many auto drafters because certain players were automatically off the board without a chance of the manager picking someone else. I appreciate the the nice critique of my draft. It was much better than the one yahoo wrote about my team. Honestly I believe my team doing well this year depends on Matt Forte. I agree there is chance of him being a bust. I really did not see any other RB's when I drafted him that had more upside potential though. My team also depends on Jordy Nelson staying healthy to take some the attention off of Cobb. He just was not the same guy last year with Nelson out of the lineup all year.. Anyways good luck to everyone this year.

Good stuff. And yeah, in a 14-teamer, you're just deciding where to take your chances, and for me, I decided to take more of a chance at QB. But a lot of it is definitely based on managerial style: in a league where you couldn't trade, I'd probably have gone more balanced, but otherwise I'm okay having a glut at the two big skill positions and moving pieces as needed. Easier said than done, but the NFL season is full of depth chart attrition, so it'll probably work out okay. Though, per usual, half of what we think we know will be totally upended by Week 5.

And a season can be totally lost in the matter of moments, somebody will tear an ACL and you can kiss your season goodbye.

Yeah, Im hoping Charles doesnt pull a Cadillac Williams and do that back to back seasons with each leg. Ive a feeling he wont though, and they may still spread the load compared to when he played before. Bad for my fantasy team, but good football.

Ive had QB woes, and trust me there is such a thing. There probably will be a bright shining star that can be grabbed off waivers these first few weeks though.

My first and second round draft picks were not worth a tinkers damn this week. Jamaal Charles - 0 Devonta Freeman 6.00  A total of 6 points, thats like 2 field goals....................... Dont you all feel sorry for me?! Brees & Fitz saved my bacon this week, and my bacon's thankful.

I have a feeling that Tavon Austin this season may have a breakout year, like a real breakout year. Plays tomorrow on my bench, might be my Flex next week. Marvin Jones Jr has alot of targets and not alot of catches. He was that way last year too.

How did he get misused though? His legs are what made him great, and heavy running QB are susceptible to this type of thing in the NFL. Look at the life span of most RB. The human body is not setup for the type of abuse it takes in the NFL. It's upsetting, but not all that surprising.

Washington hired an offensive coordinator with a ridiculously complex passing scheme, and they should have hired an OC that would have catered to RG III's skillset. Just saying he and Washington probably wouldve done better than what they did.

"The Patriots "have done extensive preparation" this week to prepare Julian Edelman as the backup quarterback for Week 3 against the Texans. If Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) can't play, rookie Jacoby Brissett will get the start Thursday night. With no other quarterback on the roster, Edelman is the next best thing after he played quarterback in college at Kent State. There have even been some whispers Edelman could have a package of plays for him at quarterback this week. With passing stats as a potential bonus, Edelman is a must-start in fantasy this week. He threw a 51-yard touchdown to Danny Amendola in the 2014 playoff"
