Hey I know that dude! I don't mean I "know" him, but I recognize him - he's is all those weird Bollywood musicals.

I have to ask, ashdoc, what is with those weird Bollywood musicals? It's always some guy chasing some girl around as the sing at each other (often with large groups of dancing guys & girls behind them)... and no matter who the girl is, she's got the exact same voice (that high-pitched nasal Indian female voice) as every singing girl in every movie! And what's weird is there are like a million of these movies and they keep making more!

(I used to check out this weekend morning show that would show clips of Bollywood movies and it always seemed like all the clips could be from the same movie as they all consisted of what I described above.)

yeah , the lower class consisting of poor people that forms the majority of india's population like these kind of repetitive dances . they want the same moves from the same star and happily go to watch him or her doing the same antics again .

in some movies the brain tumour of the leading actor is cured by the bullet fired by his enemy which ( due to God's divine intervention ) hits the brain tumour and carries it away from his body !! in another scene a bullet is fired from the villains gun , and as it approaches the hero flings a knife accurately at it and the bullet splits into two parts !!--with each part landing on the hero'e either side .

but what you think of as weird is appreciated by east asians and middle easterners / arabs as well as india's neighbours like pakistan .

on the tense himalayan border with china where indian and chinese troops are in eyeball to eyeball confrontation , what breaks the ice is bollywood . many times the chinese troops send a message to indian troops that they want to see their favourite bollywood film on TV . the DVD player is set and the DVD is started to be played by indian troops , but the screen of the TV faces the chinese side which is a kilometer away . the chinese watch the TV using powerful binoculars . of course , they cant hear the dialogues a kilometer away but that don't matter---they dont understand the language anyway .

earlier pakistan had banned bollywood films . but a huge market of illegal video cassettes developed until their government was forced to allow screening of bollywood films in their theatres by popular demand . this nearly has destroyed the pakistani film industry ( exactly what their government feared ) because with bollywood being available , who is going to watch pakistani films ??

such is the magic and power of bollywood .
