View Full Version : Social Autopsy: Let's Talk About "Social Justice"

Omnizoa

Anybody else hear about this? I think this is the horseshoe (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horseshoe_theory) in motion, the crux of the regressive left taken beyond a misguided tolerance of intolerance and straight into the annals of stupidity.

This is the social justice movement in a nutshell: Identify a problem, then solve it in a manner that enables that problem.

Overcorrection is the keyword I keep hearing. It seems like well-meaning (frequently millennial) liberals get swept up in this idea of being part of a group, they subscribe to a single issue, missing the forest for the trees so to speak, and take such extreme and uncompromising stances against them that they pass beyond the event horizon of civil liberties. They begin generalizing, obfuscating the original point, and proceed to snowball with each personality they absorb while dragging others into the dirt in the name of "intersectionality".

Really? Bernie Sanders recognizes speciesism? He must be vegan then, right?

Oh, I guess not. (https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/powerpost/wp/2016/02/02/sorry-vegans-bernie-sanders-likes-eating-meat/)

 Thanks Bernie. Hypocrisy is gonna go a long way towards solving those particular issues.

I thoroughly detest trolls myself, but something a lot of people fail to recognize is that the most emotionally unstable people who kill themselves over cyberbullying crap, and thus get held up as examples, are frequently arbiters of their own demise when they respond to criticism and random idiots with public antagonism and insecurity.

Suddenly, you got people who were targets before pissing somebody else off and then whose name winds up on the hitlist?

the internet, which was a brilliant way for us to get smarter and more connected has insted made us dumber than belief and even more disconnected.
I dont have a problem with such a site in theory-the fact that you can write and behave any way you want without any consequenses is the reason why the internet is such a mess and why people are getting dumber by the minute- when you then have to take responsibilty for the things you do,maybe it will give people a kick up the ass and act their age.
the problem online is that there no higher boss of it all to sort things out,and thats been needed for quite a while now.

And I think it's annals in this context.

I think thats something thats currently worked on in many countries.
There was a man who ran a site based solely on revenge porn who got jailed a few years a go in the us (? i think)
Its illegal here but i dont think you would get much time for it,given how little one gets (if any) for rape and similar sexual assaults/harassement.

But its fairly new-in the sense that its a common phrase now so i hope the laws get stricter.

First off:
and the defense of revenge porn is beyond disgusting.
I'm not defending revenge porn, I'm criticizing people's reaction to it's absence as a law.

I'm generally annoyed by the prospect of people who think they can report death threats to the police. The police can't DO anything, you have a medium that virtually unites the best and worst people in the world so you have to get thicker skin to survive outside your "safe space" communities.

No by writing something online you have chosen to make it public, you know when youre writing somethings that over the line and if you choose to post it anyways then thats your choice.

Fair enough. It is still a risk this person willingly takes though. It's not right obviously and i'd be fine with laws being made to prevent it but the part of your post about learning a lesson definitely applies to sending naked pics/videos. Maybe it isn't a lesson that somebody should need to learn because it shouldn't happen but to me it is still pretty stupid sending even someone you trust something that could be used as "revenge" knowing how easily relationships can change.

You should be free to speak on the internet and not have your name, home address, phone number, and place of employment connected to it. This has been the whole problem with the internet in the past several years -- anonymity is being discouraged. Thanks to things like Facebook and Twitter, it's become standard to include your real name with everything. Facebook will punish you and deactivate your account if you use a fake name.

Not everybody wants to pose as their real identity online. The era of coming up with a fun nickname/screenname and saying what you want somewhere is being nixed. And now with this Social Autopsy thing, they wanna reveal even more. It's low class. It reeks of people just acting no better than the National Enquirer. Now instead of attacking celebrities and exposing them for everything they do, they do it with ordinary citizens, thanks to the internet.

But aside from that aswell, revenge porn isnt nessecarrily pictures the victim has sent. its often referred to it as that, but alot of times they are photographed without knowing it or without agreeing to it.In numours cases they been forced to have their picture taken so the partner can hold it as leverage.

Thoughts, Monnom?

We live in a time where harassment can come from someone across the pond, it not only affects you but everyone around you and those you're not even aware exist can make you a target. I'm not talking about someone saying something rude, I'm talking about someone posting personal information or worse, thus making it accessible to any idiot that wants to cause actual physical harm. That's a serious matter and should be taken as such. As I said it's a different age we live in and along with it comes a different (and much more aggressive) form of harassment. So other than it's an asinine comment from an apparent ignoramus, I have no thought on the matter. :D

Now don't mind me, I'll be on my way.

I dont think the phone and adress should be added, but the name (which by default could give you access to the above)

Well, i'm not taking it lightly and i've made that clear. And they shouldn't have sent it is a valid response even though again i totally agree it shouldn't happen but it does happen, rape or murder happens and we try to take precautions against that. Those aren't comparable in seriousness obviously but neither is the precautions you have to take, it really is as simple as don't send them.

By alchol and rape i mean the common excuse that the girls/boys shouldnt have been drinking so much that they left themselfs vaunerable or enough to not know what they were doing.
sure they shouldnt have, could it all have been avoided? maybe so(and obviously in some cases no),but its still not them who did something wrong.

I said it because that is a part of revenge porn so if people are going to discuss wether or not its wrong,or who is responisble or wether or not its should be legal all sides must be included. the fact that alot of people think revenge porn is just selfies is scary.

Well i wasn't arguing for it to be legal and i made that clear multiple times. All i was saying that what is commonly referred to as revenge porn, people willingly sending pics/vids whatever to someone then that person posting them online, it was entirely clear from my wording and i still think you deliberately moved the goalposts to things that while they fit under revenge porn it is not what is commonly referred to, but whatever we mostly agree.

The best part of that post is that it can be read as the dictionary word rather than the username and it makes even more sense.

that's why i did it (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0084628/quotes?item=qt1640957)

Thoughts?:

Talk to your child about stranger-danger: Not to scare, but to inform them.
Sure, not all men are paedophiles but offenders are predominantly male.

I don't want my kids sitting next to a man on a plane.

My immediate thought is: If you fear for the safety of your child... why in the **** are you leaving them alone on an airplane to travel WAY BEYOND Mommy's safety bubble when apparently half the population is a sexual threat to them you stupid stupid stupid sexist.
