View Full Version : It's Been Bloody Roasting Today!

31 degrees here! I'm can't handle hot weather! My face is bright pink - not as result of my liberal alcohol consumption - but the result of some cheap sun cream I bought. I look like Ric Flair! Very embarrassing.

Hit 41c on my balcony today.

It's muggy as well, which makes it worse.

Oh no! Where is the blood coming from? Slob, are you bleeding or something?

He's got blood back in his alcohol system. Watering it down stops him bursting into flames.

Just had a cold shower. 20 cans of Magners in the fridge, ice in freezer. Bob's your uncle.

Anyway, yes -- it's HOT.

I actually wanted to make a thread about the heat myself, but didn't think it really warranted a thread (what's wrong with me?)

I wanted to make a thread where people told us when they were hot.

This can be that thread, I guess.......

Well, I will tell you when I will be hot.....

Coming this Thursday through Sunday, the predicted temperatures here will be 94, 93, 90 and 89 (for me, once it hits 85, that is no different than 90). The problem with the first two days is that we also have an "Excessive Heat Watch" going on for them (I hope it doesn't turn into a "Warning" because I don't know what I will do then!). So, that means, when it is 94 on Thursday, it will feel like it is anywhere from 100 - 110 outside. And on Friday, it will feel as warm as 105.

I hate hot weather. Especially because I don't have an air conditioner.

105? That's like, over the boiling point of water

That's the US temperature scale. They use a different scale than the world does:

I know, I was being silly.
105 is about 40.

F-C is take away 32, and divide by 1.8
C-F is multiply by 1.8 and add 32.

On top of all of the heat is going to be the humidity.

I honestly considered going to a hotel for a couple of days - I know I won't be sleeping at night otherwise. But I didn't realize that the hotels would be that expensive (I've never had to stay in one in this city before - so I didn't know). I looked into the ones out in the suburbs, too, and they really aren't any cheaper. So I will just stay at home and wait it out. Unfortunately, that means at least 2 nights of no sleep. Even with the fan directly on me, I can't sleep in that kind of heat.

And then you gave the pizza delivery guy a tip?

The pizza was hot, I ordered a cold one like they normally deliver. No tip.

My window AC broke right after putting it in this year (the fan or motor in the outer part started making this horrific noise). I found pressing the bottom & top of the outer part made the noise stop (tried tightening screws on the top part, but that only made it worse - and there are no screw heads on the bottom part). Then I tried to duct-tape it, but the tape came off within a day since it was wrapped around the outer part that blows out heat. So then I got some rope - that did the trick. My AC is being held together (and is fairly quiet) with rope!

Cheapskate. If you were in Young Guns and Billy the Kid was your pizza boy, he'd shoot you dead.

I've just this minute opened the doors and windows. Dark outside now and cooler than inside now too. I've had everything shut today, even the curtains.
Been cooler than outside at least.
Getting the cold air in now, then close everything up again in the morning and lock it all in.

I'm sure that has something to do with it.
Poverty motivates ingenuity, but it also starts to give the place a "white trash" look - I mean, I now have an exposed AC that can be seen from the street held together with rope (maybe that's why people are walking into my house).

I need to get an old broken washer & dryer to put out on the front lawn!

31 (Celsius) is about the same as 90 (Fahrenheit).

That said, it was actually near 0 (or 32 for you Americans and your odd temperature scale) here a number of times this past month. Definitely averaged less than 10 degrees (aka 50 F). This past week it has thankfully been really warm though, with most days being around 25-28 (77-82).

It was 29 degrees where I was today, pretty much unheard of for the North East  but it was filled with my parents giving me lectures on the heatwave of 76 where it was this hot for something like 4 months and it was more like the Sahara than the UK!

17°C right now. It's 6:33 AM. Internet says it's going to be 24°C in a couple of hours.

I just wish my AC unit was not made in the time of Moses, then it would work a lot better. That ain't right when you live in Texas.

I remember that CiCi! Some areas even had to have water brought in tankers as the reservoirs ran dry. I was working as a cleaner in a London hotel, and that was before the days of air con everywhere. I remember some of us youngsters had to help the older ladies finish their room cleaning quota as it was too hot for them to keep going!

Well, exactly what I didn't want to happen has happened. The "Excessive Heat Watch" has been raised to an "Excessive Heat Warning". So it will be a fun couple of days coming up for me.

I just checked the temperature in here, and it's 90° F inside with four fans going and the a/c on high. :(
