View Full Version : What should I do with my new Arya Stark figure?
I don't seem able to start a poll on my phone, so I'll just do it manually.
a) Keep in the box for collector value.
b) Open so I can pose it on my shelf (and obviously play with it when no one's watching, but I'd never admit that)
c) Go back and buy another one so I can do both!

$23 Dollars!!?? $23.00?! Holy crap!
Choose d) and go get your money back!
Pffff, jokes on them, I'd have payed twice that.
Oh yeah, it's Canadian dollars, so not as expensive as US dollars.

If you never have plans on selling it....
Take it out and put up the box. Then go buy a Sansa and have them argue.
Well you just cant buy Arya, you gotta buy The Hound now, and Jaqen H'ghar. Also get Waif and Joffrey so Arya can kill em over and over. Uh.... yeah. Not that I play with action figures or anything.
I'm a collector and I always take my action figures out of the package. I'm very selective in what I buy (i.e. I only buy what I really like), which means I don't plan on ever selling anything. So why take them out of the box? And the way the collectible toy market is now, the money isn't in keeping something in the package and selling it years later; it's getting the hot new toys as quickly as possible and re-selling for profit before everyone else gets a fair crack at them.
I'd rather surround myself with action figures I can see properly and play around with from time to time. That brings me far more joy than the prospect of waiting decades for an unlikely payday.

The Arya Stark figure isn't a rare figure, so unless you keep it in mint condition, it's not likely to go up in value. So if it will make you happy, open it up and play with it, pose it, display it, etc. :)

I am leaning towards C myself actually. I am going to buy The Hound too. I also have a G.I.Joe collection and a Boba Fett collection. Boba Fett is the only one I haven't opened.
I like the idea of keeping it in the box not for the hope it will rise in value, but because it will be extremely valuable to pass on when I die. A relic of the past in perfect condition.

I don't watch Game of Thrones... is she related to Tony Stark?

Yes, that's exactly right. ;)
Okay, so after opening it, this is officially the worst action figure I've ever purchased in my life.
Some of the joints were really stiff and had to be fought with. The joints are all different stiffnesses, and some of them (especially the hands) are loose. Her knees are extremely awkward, able to fold up like a lawn chair. Her knees have two joints each allowing for 180 degre bends. They can actually go straight up behind her. The deal breaker is this though: Her hands are so tightly together that in trying to get her sword in it snapped at the hilt. So the weapon is already broken.
I distinctly recall her telling The Hound that it wouldn't break if he tried to snap it over his knee in the books. She lied. It was brittle. Oh, and it's not like I was even remotely close to getting it acrually in her hand. Even trying to jam the broken handle into her hand was very difficult.
So yeah... Don't think I'll buy another or The Hound.

Maybe they sell a suit of red & gold armor for her?
If they did it would literally be no protection whatsoever because it breaks when you blow on it. :p

Yeah, Funko isn't known for high quality, unfortunately. The sculpts are generally quite good, but the paint is often sloppy and the joints can be quite tight or loose (or both). To make matters worse, I've seen Funko figures with defects (two left feet, for example) and/or parts that were clearly broken but still somehow packaged. Not a very enticing deal at $20 per figure.
Thankfully, you can typically find them for much cheaper; I've seen some pretty low clearance prices at Walgreens, for instance. From the Game of Thrones line, I only own Ned Stark and Jon Snow (who I repainted because his factory paint job is awful). I'd probably buy some of the newer ones, like Robb Stark or Jaime Lannister, if I could find them for rags, but right now I'm happy with what I have.
I also really want the Funko Firefly figures (Mal, Zoe, Wash, Jayne, and Kaylee), but I'm waiting for them to drop dramatically in price too. I know that strategy doesn't help get the rest of the crew made, but whatever. That was always going to be a shot in the dark anyway.
