Well, that's a sick lady, and I hope she goes to jail.... however, I can't help but find what she did a little funny. You could totally take that murder scenario and tell it as a twisted joke. It kinda reminds me of this story in Creepshow 2 where a white woman hits and runs over a black man who's a hitchhiker, and then he comes back to life and rides around on the hood of her car while she's going crazy, trying to kill him, but she can't. If only Chante's homeless man in the windshield came back to life.

Sounds like a funny story...I'd read it, or watch it, take your pic...thanks for the humor

Put her in prison for the rest of her life.
Still, I don't get the nasty tone of this article. (What does it mean when he says "..as much as I'm opposed to hate crimes legislation..."?) How old is the author, 12?
How is she liberal scum? She ran over a homeless guy. The article doesn't say anything about her political affiliations.

I think this women should get life if not the death penalty… and from what I understand several of her friends urged her to call 911 before he died but she refused… the friends are guilty too…
She is obviously a very apathetic and inconcientious human being. I have no sympathy for the woman, regardless of her race or political leanings.
Beale, I honestly have no idea what compels you to believe that I am a "radical liberal"! I have already made an announcement vis-a-vis my political leanings on this forum--I am an independent voice--I agree with the left on some issues and with the right on others, but my primary allegiance is to liberty, truth and justice for all.
I don't know if this qualifies as a "stupid and radically liberal" statement, but, then, Beale, I wouldn't necessarily consider myself as a stupid and radically liberal individual either. I just wince at narrow categorizations, that's all. For instance, the author's propensity to categorize the woman as a "liberal bitch" or "scum" who "deserves to die". The woman may have done some pretty awful, heartless things, but do her actions necessarily incriminate all liberals?

It refers to only a liberal would defend that type of filth.
The author is opposed to the usage of hate crimes, as the concept is a little silly, and is generally (I can think of time otherwise actually) use when whites kill blacks. The author does however say since hate crimes are in effect, this one should be considered a hate crime.
This woman is the worst kind of trash. She needs to be tortured the resty of her life, or at least be sent to prison for life. They need to make an example of this woman. This stuff shouldn't be tolerated.

If I'm not mistaken, this link is to a site called www.liberalscum.com. Why is this particular story on that website?

I doubt it mattered to her that he was white when she hit him. It's not like she would have avoided the homeless guy if he was black. If she had gone out of her way to find a white guy walking down the street so she could run him over with her car, then of course it would be a hate crime. There's a difference between shooting a random guy on the street who happens to be gay, and going to the gay club and finding someone you know is homosexual so you can kill him.
Saying hate crimes are silly implies that everybody is a enlightened, tolerant human being who realizes that racism and homophobia and closed-mindedness are nefarious concepts. This isn't quite the case, as everyone knows. Sometimes when a person has genetic qualities that are undesirable to another person, that becomes the motive for violence.

I agree that it shouldn't be tolerated & she should be locked up for a long time, but what's this torture nonsense about?

IT REFERS TO ONLY A LIBERAL LAWYER WOULD DEFEND HER!!!!
Ok now. What makes it a hate crime is that she actually went to a party and made jokes about killing a white man. She thought it was funny! If that doesn't indicate a hate crime, I don't know what does.
As to the torture, I guess thats just personal preference. I feel she has earned a lifelong amount of torture, but I guess the very worst the state can do is prison for life, which was my second choice.

Ok.
So do they just purposely find the most disgusting crimes, write a summary, and conclude with 'wow, this bitch deserves to die, only a liberal would defend her'? Is the whole purpose of the site to find weird stories and somehow link it to liberalism?
Or is there some other reason this particular story is posted on that site?
Ok now. What makes it a hate crime is that she actually went to a party and made jokes about killing a white man. She thought it was funny! If that doesn't indicate a hate crime, I don't know what does.
So let's say I beat up a guy who happens to be hispanic. If I tell my buddies later that I beat up a hispanic guy, is that a hate crime? If the homeless man's race wasn't the motive for her to run him over, then this isn't a hate crime.
As to the torture, I guess thats just personal preference. I feel she has earned a lifelong amount of torture, but I guess the very worst the state can do is prison for life, which was my second choice.
Quite right.
I like how the author of that "article" fails to point out how she was so unbelievably high out of her mind when it happened.
Crank will **** you up.
And I too fail to see how it is a hate crime.
And that website is quite possibly the outright stupidest website I have ever been to - and I spend about 8 hours a day on the computer. I don't know if you've ever been to a KKK website, but they are remarkably similar to that site.

Mallard hit this man on the interstate, stopped and tried to roll him off her car but couldn’t so she then proceeded to drive over a mile down the interstate to her exit… then several more miles to her home with the man lodged in her windshield… all the blood evidence in this case points to the fact the man was still alive for several hours after she hit him… and medical experts have already testified to the fact that had he gotten medical attention, he would have lived…
Apparently she was high on drugs and alcohol at the time she hit him… but she was still lucid enough to refuse to call 911 and to call a friend to pick her up leaving the man in her garage to slowly die… she then called several more friends on her cell phone to tell them what happened and to enlist their help to dispose of the body… she wanted to burn him up…
One other thing of note about all of this is that Mallard, herself is a nurse and her brother is a paramedic and was on duty the night she hit this man… and yet, she didn’t help him or at least even make a call to her brother… So this is where the questions are going to arise as to whether or not this was a hate crime… No, she probably didn’t hit him just because he was white… but did she refuse to give him medical attention herself or call 911 because he was white… and if his race had nothing to do with it, why did she specifically say she killed a “white man” instead of just saying “a man” …

I'm not contesting that she needs to be imprisoned for (hopefully) life.
Also, if you're high & drunk you usually act less rationally, so I can see why she refused to call the paramedics.

How can you prove she refused to give him medical attention because he was white? She didn't say 'oh, I'm not helping out this dude because he's a cracker.' There's no reason to believe she would have acted differently if the man were of a different race, so how can this be a hate crime?

SHE WENT TO A PARTY AND BRAGGED ABOUT KILLING A WHITE MAN!
On the less rationally thing, if she was stoned out of her mind, she wouldn't be sober enough to drive home and call a friend. In any case, she would've still seen the guy stuck through her windshield!!! The high is very likely a coverup to attempt to get off more lightly.
SHE WAS A NURSE FOR PETE'S SAKE!!!! HIGH OR NOT!!! SHE TOOK THE TIME TO HAVE SEX WITH HER BOYFRIEND!!!!
And on the newspaper thing, I'm sorry. I thought someone might be as amused as I was by the site, while still being sickened by Chante Mallard.
And why does it have to a newpaper to be accurate? I never said it was more accurate than anything, I simply said it was a good description of what happened.
And since your next question will be "How is that a good description" I'll answer that now. It is the same description that has been given 100's of times by newspapers and the radio, not to mention talk shows. It simply gives the description a little more colorfully. :D The link wasn't for you really Steve, it was for someone that hadn't heard of the case yet.
Ok now.

I understand that, but you (or anyone else) haven't given any reason to believe the word 'white' was anything more than a description. If you can't prove she would have acted differently if the victim were black (for example) then this isn't a hate crime.

I'm not defending her actions & I'm not arguing against punishment. I'm just saying that this isn't a hate crime, and those who think hate crime legislation is 'silly' have no grasp of the reality.

It was a fine description insofar as it tells what happened. But the explicit bias and amateurish swearing discredits any validity the guy might have had otherwise.
I never said it had to be a newspaper. I said that I don't see how some gutter swine ignoramus reports more accurately than an actual journalist who keeps his political biases to himself when reporting.

The only evidence they have that Mallard was in fact on drugs the night in question is through the testimony of several witnesses at the party she attended that state she was drinking… and one of the men who helped her dispose of the body claimed they had smoked marijuana earlier that day… there is really no way to prove or disprove if she was in fact high at the time she hit the man because even though the man’s body was discovered the day after the incident… Mallard’s actions were not uncovered until several months later…
I am aware that had she been high and drunk, she might not have been thinking rationally but the fact is, she was thinking rationally enough to try to cover her crime up... she even burned her car seat.
How can you prove she refused to give him medical attention because he was white?
I wasn’t trying to prove it one way or the other… all I did was point out some of the questions that are being asked due to her actions…

I have no idea what she said that night because I wasn’t there… and I have no idea how she would have acted had the man been another race… I don't know if this was a hate crime or not but the possibility is there... I deal with this stuff everyday and can in all honestly say, had the races in this case been reversed… there would have been accusations labeling it a hate crime from day one…
Btw… the victims name was Gregory Glenn Biggs, age 37. He was a brick mason by trade searching for work but had been homeless for a time… His autopsy report stated he suffered a broken right arm, a broken right leg, and his left leg was almost severed. None of his major organs were damaged… He bleed to death from the left leg injury.

If you're having a problem with him just rephrasing and narrowing down his questions, shouldn't it be obvious that you actually haven't answered them yet.

Kong agrees with Steve that there is no evidence that this crime was racially motivated. It is certainly a horrible ghastly crime and Kong hopes for a stiff penalty, but to claim that it's a hate crime is seriously stretching the evidence to an absurd degree.
It's true that she was caught because she mentioned the crime at a party, but Beale's link was the first and only one that Kong has seen that suggested she was bragging about her crime. So, it may very well be false. (Like the articles claim that the man lived for days. That was thought to be true by police, but the autopsy proved otherwise.)
Another misconception Kon has noticed is that Ms. Mallard is a nurse. She isn't. She is a nurse's assistant. It might seem like a small thing, but there is a big difference.

There is no evidence a lot of the time that crimes are racially motivated but the accusations are still made which is the point I was trying to make earlier… and considering her actions after she hit the man, I can understand how the motive behind all her actions could be in question… especially when you look at some of the other cases where race has been made an issue…

The police report stated the women who reported Mallard said Mallard told her she had “killed this white man” and then giggled… I wouldn’t necessarily call that bragging but I would question this women’s remorse…

I just checked and she was a nurse’s aide… sorry, my mistake… I read through that part of the report too fast… I will say this though, I worked as a nurse’s assistant part-time when I was going to college and we were trained in basic emergency treatment… the same kind of treatment the Doctors testified could have possibly saved this man’s life had they been administered…

The link I gave wasn't the greatest. I'm sorry. It was the first thing that popped up, I thought it to be amusing, so I used it. In the future I will try to use a more "respectable" source so as not to upset Steve (or anyone else for thatr matter).
On the hate crime-while I'm almost sure that hitting him had nothing to do with his skin color, I'm not quite sure that it wasn't a factor in whether she sought out help for him. The fact that she joked about killing a white man indicates to me there might be more to this. I'm not sure either way, but I think it should be looked into. It seems kind of pointless at this point however, so lets just say that the joking just goes to show how cold blooded she is. Agreed?
I think that was all we were debating about for the trial itself. (If I'm not wrong, which I may be).
In any case:

I don't believe in capital punishment but I think she deserved life in prison. But I don't buy the hate crime motive at all. I wonder what this woman really said about it on this party where she is supposed to have bragged and joked about the killing. Just saying "I hit some white guy" doesn't qualify for being bragging or joking or being racist.

Curiousity is the mother of all movie forums! :D
The discussion started when I said that it was scary that less and less people read newspapers. Then it ended up with being about the pros and cons of the Internet. I claimed that it is easier to spread disinformation presented as "the truth" on The Net than it is in a well-established newspaper. A serious newspaper, or Internet news site for that matter, would never have presented this story in the way that site did.
